Anything over 3,000 words needs to be broken up into chapters and submitted as separate stories. Your article on Monte Cassino is 6,750 so if you can shorten it a bit, you'll get into 2 parts. It's a fantastic description of how it must have been for our fathers too - it's the personal experiences that are important for the BBC site. Then just submit it yourself, don't wait for an answer from them.

From strategic point of view it was a mistake because the ruins gave Germans

perfect shelter. On the other hand nobody believed that Germans were not there.

They did not have to be in the Monastery proper - it was enough to be outside of

the building and have excellent observation post. There is no clear cut answer

to this issue.
