Hello,

Today a Frenchman told me about the Memorial at Montormel-Coudehard in
France, dedicated to the Polish military personnel who fought at Falaise.

He was at Falaise as a youngster with his mother and siblings during the
fighting. He has a strong fondness for the British, American and Canadian
military as a result of their involvement at Falaise, but his greatest
admiration is reserved for the Polish Forces and their mighty effort in
battle.

He told me the Memorial at Montormel-Coudehard registry is steeped in
records and specifics about the Polish who fought in the area, including
names and personal details of those who lived and died. I am surprised to
think that such a compact collection of personal details would be kept
there.

Are there some among you who know of this Memorial and can verify the
existence of the records I've referred to, and can advise the best means to
make contact with staff at the Memorial?

Thank you.

Hi Konrad,
If you google "memorial at Montormel-Coudehard" you will get lots of
pages and info. I tried the page with the e-mail address and it
didn't work, but another gave info on the Poles.
If you need any help, send me a mail and I will translate stuff or try
to help.

Konrad,

This site is in French but at least gives you a taster, as well as
contact address and telephone number.

http://www.normandie44lamemoire.com/fichesvilles/montormcoude.html

Having bored our daughter silly with the memorials and visitor centres
on the Normandy beaches and around Caen this summer, I was not allowed
to venture inland but be assured, the French take very good care of
these memorials and cemeteries, and most of the staff speak English!

I have also come upon another web site that shows the advance of the 1st polish armoured division.  Go into the History tab, then into the maps.

Cheers
