Description

This group is for discussion of the features of a Microsoft Excel template called Knitting Chart Maker that contains macros, toolbars and grouped AutoShapes comprising the most widely known knitting symbols. The template can be used to create Excel workbooks containing charts using symbols for all types of knitting techniques, i.e., lace, cable, color, etc. The Excel workbooks can then be converted to .pdf using various conversion software, but my favorite is pdf995 from pdf995.com -- I tried six other ones but none worked as well. There are four toolbars in the template, each toolbar containing a different Style for its Symbols (all of the symbol toolbar buttons can be rearranged), a photo of the toolbars is in the Photos section. Any toolbar can contain any combination of symbols from the other toolbars, PLUS SYMBOLS YOU CAN CREATE YOURSELF! Each original symbol can be modified in several ways: flipped and/or rotated, the foreground and/or background color changed; borders added having either solid or patterned lines. As well as using toolbar buttons or shortcut keys to insert symbols, you can nudge a Symbol one cell at a time; drag groups of Symbols, or cut/copy and paste one or more symbols. Other commands include a command which converts symbols to text and another command which does the reverse. There is a Find Symbol Command, a Replace Symbol command, and a command to add, store and reuse groups of symbols when there are repetitve sections of a pattern. There are two commands to convert ASCII characters to knitting symbols. There is a menu for adding or removing gridlines. The cost is now USD 40 for a limited time only, payment by money order or PayPal. The complete Help file in MS Word format (225 pages - zipped) can be downloaded from this group's Files section. Additional screenshots of charts created with the template can also be viewed in this groups Photos folder.
