Okay, I have a new membership card now!
My name is Jim Logue, Jr. I am a 1st Degree Member (until Thursday
evening when I will become a 2nd Degree Member) of the Damien Council
K of C # 598, Jim Thorpe, Pa., and my member number is 3618575.
Thanks!
Jim
I understand the need for concern on these boards. I am a member of
the Knights, but I don't know what I did with my membership card. I
think I may have thrown it out. Anyway, I'll unsubscribe; then if I
find it, I'll re-subscribe.
Jim
Hi Jim:
My name is Ron and I'm the list owner. There is actually another list on
egroups named kofc@egroups.com that was much more active. I unsubscribed
from that group a while ago due to the fact that I've become disgusted with
my own council. The bright side is that this gives me more time to serve
my parish.
I have to agree with you though on the Gay issue, especially when it comes
to the Boy Scouts. God created man in His image. As part of his
creation, each of us is given equal human dignity. The thing that
troubles me the most is that by "coming out of the closet" a person with
homosexual desires defines themselves by their own sexuality and declares
openly their acceptance of becoming a sexual object. That in itself is a
tragedy. Marching in a group under the banner "Heterosexuals" is
equally objectionable in my mind for that reason.
The National Football League endorses forcing the Boy Scouts of America to
accept Gay activists as leaders of young boys.
Hang that on the wall of your next Super Bowl party.

Judging by the date on the last posting here, this site isn't used
much. But I agree with Bob Clements in his posting. As a member of
the Carbon County, Pa. Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians,
the group that usually hosts the St. Patrick's Day Parades, I agree
with Bob's remarks. It's bad enough to hear on the news about how
society is giving in to this problem, but that anyone who objects is
insulted. So let's all lend support to the Boy Scouts of America.
They definitely need our support!
Jim
Remember to pass on the information needed for fellow members to get on this

Hey Dominic-
Welcome and thanks for signing up. I'm Ron from Springfield NJ 5560 and
I'm the list owner. This list is a very quiet one because some of our
brothers have another list called kofc on onelist. We've got about 97
members on that list right now. I wouldn't want you to unsubscribe from
this list, but I would highly recommend subscribing to the other by sending
an email to kofc-subscribe@onelist.com . They're a great bunch of guys
over there and the list is much more active.
Nice to hear from you.

Hello fellow brothers,
This is my first posting to this site and I would like to inspire many more in
the future. I'm a council member from Colorado in the Denver area. My name is
Mike and I've been a Knight for two years. My goal was to be an active member
of my council and to help were needed. I currently hold the office of Advocate
for this fraternal year. I must say I am a bit disappointed with the postings
to this point, is there so little to talk about? What council areas are
represented hear at the site? What problems are your councils experiencing?
With ours for years our council funds were mainly supported by bingo, but with
bingo revenues falling off I believe it's time to look at alternative fund
raisers. Anything like this happened to your councils? Any ideals?

I'm the Transportation Systems Manager for the City of Vacaville. I drive a
General Motors EV1 electric vehicle. We also live in Vacaville. Fot those
who don't know where that is, it is right on the I-80 corridor about 45
miles northeast of the San Francisco Bay Area and about 30 miles southwest
of Sacramento. I joined the Knights of Columbus back in 1990, becoming a
charter member of St. Peter's Council 10378 in Dixon. I joined because I
felt a need to balance my life out as I was very involved in the bowling
community, being a Director in the Central Solano Bowling Association
(CSBA), Assistant Public Relations Chairman for CSBA, bowling several
leagues a week, bowling tournaments nearly every weekend in the Bay Area and
Sacramento, and writing a local bowling column for the Dixon Tribune, and a
monthly bowling column for Bowling World. I have maintained my membership
with the Bowling Writers Association of America (BWAA), but all of the other
bowling activities have essentially ceased. I mention this because, over
the last several years, I have become very involved with the Knights of
Columbus at various levels. I have never in all my years received the
satisfaction of being a member of an organization as I have with the Knights
of Columbus. The Knights of Columbus is one organization where you truly
get out of it in relation to your contribution of time and talents. I have
found that you actually get more out of it!
Anyway, I hold the current positions with the Knights of Columbus:
Past Grand Knight (1993-1994) of St. Peter's Council 10378 in Dixon, California
Current Member of the Vaca Valley Council 04901 in Vacaville, California
Former District Deputy (JAN95 - JUN99) for District #11 in California
Northern California Chapter Secretary
Northern California Chapter Membership Chairman
Northern California Chapter Public Relations Chairman
California State Retention Committeeman - North (Five Northern California
Chapters)
Past Faithful Navigator (1997-1998) of Altimira Assembly 0051
Faithful Trustee for the Altimira Assembly 0051
I am looking forward to the enhanced communications opportunities that will
exist with the List Serve.

Joined the KofC in 1973, Council #840 , Fresno, Ca. Went thru the chairs and
served as GK '78/'79.
Charter member Council 10298, Clovis,Ca , 1990.
Helped reorganize Council 9170 , Ava Mo., in 1995, and served as first GK.
Currently FS.
9170 started with 30 members in March 1995, and currently has 51, drawing from 3
parishes. Some of our members drive 50 miles to attend meetings. We are in a
very rural area in the heart of the Ozark Bible Belt, so the fraternization of
Catholic men has been very welcome to our members.
We try to keep a high profile in our dealings with the outside community and
seem to be making some headway with our country cousins! Some seem quite amazed
that we are Christians and have a strong faith in Jesus.
Our members come from Douglas, Ozark, and Wright Counties , and most are very
active in their parishes as well in the Council.

Angelfire for your free web-based e-mail. http://www.angelfire.com
Good Morning John & Mike and Vincent.
Vincent is the fifth member to sign up on the list in the 48 hours that I've
been promoting it. Please chime in and say hello and let Vincent know where
you are from. If this idea is going to work, everyone is going to have to take
their part in spreading the word. This letter is the second revision of my
Frequently asked question list and contains information on how to grow this
list.
Question: Is there a chat room?
Answer: At the moment there will be no chat room setup until we have built a
community large enough to support it. Onelist.com does provide ICQ instant
messaging and we will get there once things get rolling with the list. My
ultimate goal would be to have an Online International Knights of Columbus
Convention in a chat room. The creation of this list is the first step in
making that a reality as it will facilitate the coordination of such an event.
We could even have state and national meetings on a weekly basis. There are a
million good reasons why every Knight on the planet should be subscribed to
this list. Two of the best ones are Fraternity and Unity. The
possibilities are endless. That dream is only as real as our efforts to get
as many members as possible to sign up for the list.
Question: How does the list work and what does "chime in mean"
Every time you send an E-mail to KnightsofColumbus@Onelist.com a copy is sent to
everyone on the list. It is important to "chime in" so that new people on the
list have something to read and get excited about. If everybody sits around
waiting for the next guy to write something the list is going to be pretty
boring. This list is comprised of people with something in common,
Knighthood.
Question: Okay Ron, sounds like a good idea. Why are you doing this and what
is in it for you?
Answer: This is strictly a volunteer effort. I receive no compensation for this
and I don't want any. I am doing this because I think it is wild that all this
technology can be used to the benefit of an organization as great as the Knights
of Columbus. Once the list gets to 500 people I could sell it to Onelist.
I give you my word that I will not sell this list nor will I tolerate anyone who
tries to cash in on it by advertising network marketing schemes or any other of
that baloney.
Question: Who authorized you to start an E-mail list for the Knights of
Columbus?
Answer: Nobody. I just did it.
Question: What are the rules?
Answer: Strictly members only. If it is appropriate at a council meeting it is
appropriate here.
Question: How do I help grow the list?
1) Printout the Invitation Letter that I sent you that prompted you to sign up
on the list and have it included in your next council bulletin.
2)Bring the subject up at your next meeting and hand out copies of the letter to
the members. Bring forth a resolution in your council that your council
supports List and that your Grand Knight should bring the subject up to your
District Deputy.
3)Forward the Invitation I sent you to any members that you know of that have
E-mail.
4)Search the web for councils that have web pages and forward the Invitation to
them.
5)If you have an existing website in your council, have the webmaster insert a
link into the web page pointing to
http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/KnightsofColumbus
There is also a pushbutton that can be added to a web site that will help people
to subscribe. Just ask and I'll get you a copy of the code.
6)Hang the letter in your hall and put up a sign with
http://www.onelist.com/subscribe/KnightsofColumbus on it.

Good Morning John & Mike:
John- I am going to answer you questions as I write what will probably be a
Frequently asked Question list.
Question: Is there a chat room?
Answer: At the moment there will be no chat room setup until we have built a
community large enough to support it. Onelist.com does provide ICQ instant
messaging and we will get there once things get rolling with the list. My

everyone on the list. It is important to "chime in" so that new people on the
list have something to read and get excited about. If everybody sits around
waiting for the next guy to write something the list is going to be pretty
boring.
Question: The Onelist.com web site offers $500 if I turn a 500 person list over
to them. Are you going to do that?
Answer: The policy is "Members Only" On my honor as a Catholic gentleman I
give my word that I will not sell this list.
Question: How do I help grow the list?
1) Printout the Invitation Letter that I sent you that prompted you to sign up
on the list and have it included in your next council bulletin.
2)Bring the subject up at your next meeting and hand out copies of the letter to
the members.
3)Forward the Invitation I sent you to any members that you know of that have

I'm really reved up about this list because I think that it is a fabulous
opportunity to build so real ties between members and councils around the world.
At the moment, there are 3 members on the list, you, me and Deacon Mike in
Louisiana. The E-mail you received was one of about 20 that I sent out last
night.. Also, please let us know where you are writing from. I going to be
keeping track of all of the cities, states, countries and councils that we reach
out to. I'm serious about having a map and a thumbtack with your name on it.
Sorry I did not get the picture you posted, it came up blank, please try again

Ron,
I am not very adroit on the web as of now. When you say "Chime in",
do you mean there is a "room" where I can go and chat? Is this email going
only to you or is it reaching out to other Knights? And is so, how many
Knights are receiving this letter? Here is a something I hope that you will
enjoy,
Thanks,
john

Deacon Michael Cantrelle from Louisiana, meet John, explorsyou@..., who
has not introduced himself yet. I appreciate all the help I can get. So
don't worry about sending me sites (I would appreciate it if you would
forward our invitation letter to as many addresses as you can get your hands
on).
Incidentally, John, You are #2. Chime in and say hello.
Also, while I appreciate the E-mail, unless it is something that needs to be
said privately, please post to the group at KnightsofColumbus@Onelist.com
Regards and Good night
Ron
Thanks Mike,
I E-mailed the webmaster at knightsite. Hey, I just started tonight and I
already have a Deacon from Louisiana on the list. I think that's pretty
amazing and with God's grace I know this list will touch a lot of people.
I checked out the URL for your website and spent a few minutes. One word,
"wow." You have a very rich site that is wonderfully done. The only
thing I could not find was a link to kofc.org and mention that the entire
text of the catechism is online and searchable. I immediately added it to
my favorites and intend on plagiarizing as much of it as I can when I
eventually get around to building our own, I'd appreciate permission for
some links. I'm Service Program Director and Recording Secretary for our
Columbian Club this year and don't have time to sit down. Actually when I
was speaking of needing a Web presence here, I was speaking of forums such
as could be found on Onelist.com. I am a Lecturer, a member of the Parish
Council of Ministries, and a certified Catechist at St. James Church in
Springfield (8th grade Confirmation). I'm on the net a lot looking for ideas
for class. I hooked up with one of the lists here, SundaySchool it is
called and is advertised as being non-denominational. It is run by a
bunch of Anglican Ministers posing as Southern Baptists. The moderator
banned me from the list for an "un-SundaySchool like attitude after I
blasted him for putting me on moderated status for "spreading catholic
doctrine, which will not be tolerated." I was surprised at how virulently
anti-Catholic people could be. The internet breaks down the international
boundaries that separate America from that European Catholic-Protestant
burnin' heretics at the stake thing. Our problems here in the states are
on racial lines, the Europeans on religious. Now those problems are
available to your children right now at a E-mail address near you.
Later, Peace,
Ron
Hi Ron,
I am the Financial Secretary of our council. I am also a Past Grand
Knight.
I am an ordained deacon in the Roman Catholic Church for the diocese of
Houma-Thibodaux.
Our council won the State Deputy's Award as the No. 1 council in the
state of Louisiana.
Our family of the year won also for State.
We won four out of five activity awards for the State.
Our Grand Knight just returned from Minneapolis and the international
convention with the first place trophy for our family activity project.
Our family of the year placed fourth.
That's all for now. Talk to you later.
Deacon Mike
