Great idea,
One of the best choices Lord Alyster made, and that made the Pheonix Comic Con booth such success; was just that: It was a booth. No demo. Just a booth. He ran video of the fighting and people were able to speak to us easiest. That was a pure stroke of genius.

After the recent success of Lord Alyster (Yoshi's) Phoenix Comic Con demo and multiple-year sucesses of THL Fergus' St. Patrick's Day demos, I do think this festival might be something we should look into as a Kingdom in terms of visability and introducing the Current Middle Ages to new membership.   It would be especially beneficial to the BTY, BMMT, Burning Sands and March of Wealanutu groups given the audience we would have, but people from all over do attend.

Also, It was apparent to me that this festival was a modern "artisan's showcase", if you will.  There are a huge number of artisans selling and displaying their work and so much of it is beautiful and of interest to our populace as well as an option for our artisans who might like to display their work at the festival.

For many years the festival has had the nickname of Tucson "Eat" Yourself because of all the variety of food booths representative of world cultures.  I had pirogies and potato pancakes from the Polish booth and Peach Cobbler from the Soul Food people and a fruit drink from the Mexican drink lady.  And that was just all I had room for!

So, just throwing it out there.  It is something that might be worthwhile, but would need a dedicated Yoshi or Fergus type to make it happen.  Maybe I can help out in a few years, but I am pretty busy with Estrella War 29 for the time being.  :)

Greetings, Magdalen,

I think you have hit upon something very big.  I and my "Merrie Minstrels" group performed at the demo at "Shakespeare in the Park" and I think all of 5 people must have heard us.  At Tucson Meet Yourself, that number would be in the tens of thousands!

As for the video of fighting, that may indeed be the best way to present that aspect of the SCA, especially since the actual fighters/weapons might not be allowed because of the nature of the audience (families, small children) and liability--it gets really crowded there.  However, as far as the arts and crafts aspects, I think it would be neat to have some samples for display and possibly some artisans demonstrating their crafts, like weaving, embroidery, etc., in period garb, of course.  Also, I see great potential for street musicians and bards.  Perhaps even a spontaneous scene from Shakespeare! I even had the idea of a puppet theater for the children, but that may be going above and beyond...(is there one in BTY?)  A mime like the one I saw at last year's BTY Arts and Sciences would be great, too!  I remember seeing a mime in Quebec City, Canada, who, without speaking a word, had a huge crowd in absolute stitches.

And, of course, flyers to hand out!

While I still don't know that much about the SCA to really be in charge of something like this, I would be glad to help out and offer my home as a possible organizational meeting locale.  Planning should begin well in advance of the event.  I also know the director of Tucson Meet Yourself, Mia Hansen, and can get more information and ideas from her (when she's recovered from this year's festival) if there is indeed an interest in doing this demonstration.

YIS,

Sarah Axford

Greetings from Master Raven Mayne, KMoAS,

Over all this years Kingdom A&S Competition was the best one yet and we barley
had any bumps in the Road. The site seemed to suit all our needs wonderfully and
I have heard quite a bit of good feed back about the event activities overall.
No, really, I need someone to tell me about all the fun everyone was having out
there. No matter what I will strive to continue to encourage future Stewards of
this event that a good formula has been truly found [with now two consecutive
years in doing so]to keep all who attend the event entertained.

Also this year in the A&S Competition we had a dramatic decrease in no shows,
and again for the fourth straight year we saw, mind it small, an increase in
entrants. I had planned to make some improvements/changes this year but with
the changing of the Guard of my Deputy KMoAS in Charge of Judging Certification,
I have decided to hold off till next year.

I would like to thank all the Judges and Champion Judges for all of your time,
knowledge and Service to us all. And to all the entrants who showed us their
amazing artwork and braved the preregistration and helped us hopefully help them
to the best of our ability.

Thank you to all that donated items to the silent auction, or bought the items
at the silent auction to help feed the Judges at Estrella War A&S Competition.
That makes us all look good to EW visitors. :)

Because there is no way I could do this all by myself, I would like to thank all
of the following:

Site Stewards Lady Kirsten Maria Matz and Lady Aoife Rosin

Lady Edeline de Diekirche, Kingdom Youth Activities Officer, who helped me with
the new plan and found/bought all of the children's and Youth prizes, and to all
that donated stuff to this cause.

My Official KMoAS Staff:

Mistress Aliannsa O'Reardon, Baroness Corynne MacLeod, Mistress Turrela
Michelovna Vidmeyera, Master Ritchyrd McUath, , Dame Fiona Gwyllt Wynne,
Mistress Ealasaid nic Suibhne, Lady Damaris Baroid, Mistress Amy Marie Mac
Cormack, Baronessa Isabeau della Farfalla, THL Jerusha a'Laon, Lady Maredudd
Browderer, Lady Stella de Luna, Lady Clarice Alienor Neep, Lord Etgar Wit Acra,
Lady Elinor 'Adorable, Master Mederic de Chatellerault, Viscountess Victoria,
Lady Bebinn ingen Domnaill, Lord Sveinbiorn Halbiornson. Mistress Jehanne le feu
du Christ …please let me know if I forgot anyone.

Dame Jennifer Trethewy and all of her busy handed scribes.

To Mistress Eden Blacksmith who helped coordinate and attain all the scrolls we
may need from all the scribes from around our Kingdom, including the generous
scribes from West of Windale.

Judges Luncheon Crew:

THL Jacquelin de Normandie, Lord Gregoire le Gris, Lady Cealleach Colquhoun,
Lady Ulianna Iosifova, and M'lady Jordyn of SunDragon for the creation of an
amazing Judges Luncheon.

And I would really like to thank their Majesties Thomas and Ilora, and their
Highness Tristan and Damiana for all of their patience and understanding with
everything.

Yes, he is.  Yesterday there was a discussion about the Kingdom A&S tournament on AtenPeerages and I asked Viscountess Victoria what she thought about it and she told me she was not on that particular Yahoo group.  I asked her if she wanted to be and she said "sure", so Wes added her to the group.

It seemed to me that there may be folks out there who either did not know of the group or missed getting added onto the group, so I asked Wes to post that it is there.

Sorry to confuse anyone.

Greetings, from Master Raven Mayne, KMoAS,

I want to thank all those that have given suggestions in the Past, Present, and
I know in the future. I take every suggestion seriously and work at trying to
figure out if it can be tried, and how to try it and see if it will work. If it
makes sense, and it will make the majority happy, I will work on it.

Even though I can form words...pretty well, and I have to walk with a cane..most
of the time, and I can only type with one hand... badly, I am still a person of
action when it comes to making improvements with anything. I will be asking all
of those that have so far made some of those wonderful suggestions to help me
try and make some of those things happen. I can be really good at delegating.

Unless they are super busy sitting on the Kingdom thrones of our Wonderful
Kingdom, or are already a Kingdom Officer, I will be more than happy to help all
others find the time to help me make those wonderful suggestions happen.

A thought just occurred to me--this year, Tucson Meet Yourself coincided with the Kingdom A&S.  Before planning anything, I think we need to verify the dates for both events to see if there's a conflict for 2013.  From what I could find, the Tucson Meet Yourself dates will be Oct. 11-13, 2013.  I could find no posting for the A&S event on the Kingdom calendar for 2013.

I inquired with the people whom host this event. I told them about the SCA and what we would be interested in wanting to do, she referred me to the website for pricing and such, but said this event was more of a cultural event and she was not sure we really met the theme. Well my idea is this, perhaps we could go at it from a stand point of focusing on say a specific culture, like middle eastern, German, Mongolian, something like that where we are displaying arts and such and focus on the culture they are coming from like a table dedicated to german arts, armor clothes etc, other tables or set ups where we group certain cultures as a theme. We could have fighter in specific kits that are period and culture accurate, maybe have persian style dancers. This would make us fit in more with their event theme, while still attracting attention to our organization. To do this demo, I would need a team of people in charge of certain aspects of the demo, I am willing to get it off the ground if I have good support from a team of workers.

So…. Who shall it be? Atenveldt against Granite Mountain. Or will we other challengers? Baron Brian the Pious feels that his populace will come out on top, but the gracious Baroness Fiordalisa Elena di Tomasso argues that the Ate Ten Toads are the best cooks in all the Kingdom.  Nay, she says, in all the Known World.  My money would be on the cooks of Mons Tonitrus, but we are busy arranging the challenge.  Now my hearing may be a little off, but I could swear they both thought there were no other challengers out of fear.  That cannot be so, as there are many wonderful cooks within the borders of Atenveldt that could rise to the challenge.  And there is rumor that our cousins from Caid may come to lay waist to the judges. What say you, Baron Zhigmun' and Baroness Aleyd?  Baron Wilhelus and Baroness Viola? Certainly Baron Bran and Baroness Deletha have no wish to ignore this challenge.  What of the mountainous wonders of Ered Sul? Certainly Baron Henry and Baroness Eirny will fight to protect their honor. And then there are the amazing Shires, Marches, and Colleges that would certainly enjoy stealing Baron Brian's thunder. The time to declare is drawing nigh, as there is an enormous amount of work that needs to be done before Southern Crusades. Please let me know what your desires are!!

Sorry for the bandwidth. Although it won't be official until tomorrow, it is
now definite that my position in my department will be eliminated as of the end
of the year due to restructuring in my company. If anyone knows of anyone
hiring mid to upper-level admins or office managers, I have 12 years experience
in the field and excellent references and would be *extremely* grateful for any
leads that are thrown my way. While I expected this to happen, it happend much
sooner than I thought I would so I have less time than I hoped to find something
new.

Thank you in advance,

Caissene / Kelly Valencia

On Sunday November 4th, during the Champion's Tourney we will have an Artisan's
Display. This is not a prize showcase in any way, just a chance to show off all
the wonderful Arts and Sciences projects you have done, are working on, want
advice on from other people, or simply want to share with populace members from
around our wonderful Kingdom. I could use assistance with some tables and a
shade pavillion of some sort if anyone can help out it would be most
appreciated.

So, bring yourself, your stuff, and projects you might feel like working on.
Feel free to leave things for people to view or spend some time hanging out with
your display and talking or working with other artisans. I hope to see many of
you there.

Greetings!

I would like to remind everyone to bring their banners along with poles and
portable holes. Also, please bring seating as close to period style as possible
and if they are folding chairs, please bring chair covers if you have them.

Parking will be a challenge, so please come as early as possible and do not park
in either the east or west parking lots for the Santa Catalina Methodist Church,
they are having an event that day as well and their security will be patrolling
the lots. Carpooling is a great idea.

Remember feast gear for soup because Baroness Saba has graciously agreed to a
host a soup kitchen, so bring your appetite and experience the wonder that is
her prowess around a soup pot! Please consider bringing some bread as well to
enjoy with the soup as rumors of a butter contribution abound! Should you wish

Greetings unto the Populace of the Kingdom of Atenveldt,
Coronation approaches fast. If you have business or announcements for, or
presentations to, Their Royal Majesties Thomas and Ilora, please get them to the
Crown Herald (Simon) or the Chatelaine (Mistress Magdalen) no later than
Thursday, November 1st.
Events such as this tend towards long, and in an effort to take no more time
than is actually needed we will need to plan and *gasp* schedule appropriately.
Yes, such things do actually occur.
Your assistance will be greatly appreciated by all in attendance.
Thank you in advance for helping us to pull this off,

Greetings, good gentles all.

It is with great sorrow that we observe the end of the glorious reign of TRM Thomas and Ilora, and with great joy that we welcome the upcoming reign of TRH Tristan and Damiana.

Throughout the day, entertainment would be welcome.  Here's my tentative plan, subject of course to royal pleasure and unexpected circumstances:

Before opening court:  instrumental music (bring Musicke from Olde England and the set list from Chocolate Revel).  Wind players, guitarists, mandolin players, violinists, percussionists - we love you all!

After lunch: a recess as people finish lunch and return to their seats.  HRH Damiana has requested music and entertainment then.  Bards, please bring your favorite piece(s), coronoation-themed if possible, and of course family-friendly.

Also, music and entertainment as needed throughout the day.

I will try to have a shade pavillion for musicians near "Big Blue" so that we have a place to put chairs, music stands, etc. in the shade.  If you do not have a period chair, remember your chair cover.  If you bring a cooler or other items, covers will be needed for those as well.

One last thing:  if you will be playing or performing at Coronation, please email me at the address below.  Thank you!

Thank you, everyone who has supported me throughout this reign as we have joined together to provide the people of Atenveldt with live music and bardic presentations.  You are talented, awesome, and appreciated!

YIS,
Lady Tiphina of Ledbury MKA Tina Durham
