Letters of Intent, along with Crown Requirements, are in place to ensure that the couple that wins Crown has a working knowledge and understanding of the Society and the Kingdom on an administrative and official level.

Subject: [Aten-Archery] Tri Baronial Youth Archery Tournament

Greetings to the populace of Twin Moons,

A couple of months ago, the archery captains of Atenveldt and Sun Dragon
approached me with the idea of holding a monthly youth archery
tournament. The site for this tournament would alternate between El Oso
and Papago Parks. This month, August, the tournament will be held at
Papago Park. We expect a fairly large turnout as many of the Sun Dragon
and Atenveldt archers will be present.

Therefore, it is my pleasure to announce that on Sunday, August 5th at
Papago Park Archer Range, a tournament will be held between the baronies
of Twin Moons, Atenveldt and Sun Dragon to determine that months best
youth archer. The tournament will start around 7:30.

Youth archers will be divided into categories by age:

5-8

9-11

12-16

Each group will have its own target to shoot at and the youth with the
highest score will be the winner.

If you would like to attend and shoot or just lend your support to our
youth, please come. Please if you can, bring a dish to share as archers
of all ages love to eat and shoot and then eat some more. Please bring
water and if you can some form of shade and your chairs. If you wish to
bring an easy up that would be good. Typically, the Sun Dragon and
Atenveldt folks will provide those but at this time of year, there is
never enough shade. THIS IS NOT A GARBED EVENT so please dress for the
weather.

Last night I attended a meeting where it was said that we need to
seriously recruit new members as our membership is, honestly aging. The
comment was that ASU and Brimstone were in an excellent position to help
grow our populace. However that being said, we have an other source of
potential new members and those who grow into our ranks: our youth. So
it is absolutely necessary that we provide them with activities as youth
from which they can grow into adult activities. We really can't afford
to loose them. So please, even if your not an archer, come out and
support our youth.

Brendan,

It is a long tradition in this Kingdom that you make your intention to fight known to the Crown in advance. One important reason is that should a couple be found unacceptable the Crown let them know, in advance, and thus not embarrass them more than is necessary. I doubt it was ever to limit the number of participants beyond excluding those who are unqualified to rule.

I hope that answers your question.

Interkingdom Anthropology Question

Why does Atenveldt require letters of intent?

Almost all of my SCA time has been in the West And An Tir, niether of which do this.  Granted that means we can have huge Crown Lists ( 60 to over 100 ).

Please do NOT send letters with “signature required” for delivery as this may delay receipt and cause you to miss the deadline. Also include your membership numbers, modern contact information attached to your letter of intent.

Greeting!!

To all interested participants, Combat Cookery at Southern Crusades is back after a one year hiatus. There has been some interest expressed this year, and I want this to happen. You may be interested but not have teams defined yet, and that is okay. Today, the only thing I need to know is that there are teams planning on wielding their spoons and cauldrons.

Oh, by the way, I have heard from one of the judges. Very disappointed that the opportunity wasn't there last year, and so looking forward to it this year. PLEASE, don't let the judges down!!!

The only information needed (NLT 3 August) is:
contact person
Barony, Shire, March, or College affiliated with (doesn't have to be just from Atenveldt)

As plans are more firm I will be in communication with the contact person.

Teams will need to be sponsored by their Barony/Shire/March/College and consist of no more that 5.  For safety, please have no member under the age of 14.

PLEASE CROSSPOST!

Greetings!

Let it be known that I will be teaching a First Aid/CPR class on Saturday,
September 8 in Phoenix near Osborn & Center Streets. There is a light rail
station close by. This class is for the benefit of the Chirurgeonate, but is
open to anyone who is interested. We will begin at 9am and go until
approximately 6pm. Certification is through the American Heart Association and
includes Basic First Aid, Infant/Child/Adult CPR, and AED (Automated External
Defibrillator) certification. Cost for the class is $45. Fees cover your class
materials, certification card, and upkeep of the equipment. I am volunteering
my time and will make no profit from the class.

Payment must be made in advance so that materials may be ordered and received in
time. **There will be no exceptions. **

If you are unable to attend for the full day, or if you need certification at
the Healthcare Provider level, there is a second option. You may also take the
class and test online at www.onlinetrainingplace.com for $35. Upon completion,
print the certificate of completion, bring it to the class on the 8th and take
the practical exam (skills test on the CPR manikin). The cost for taking the
practical exam is $15. I *must* have the completion certificate in hand before
I can issue your certification card.

Greetings from Andreas, King of Sylvan thelmearc,

This year is sure to be quite different than any other. Their Majesties of the East and Middle have created a unique alliance that will see them facing thelmearc, Atlantia and our Allies. I think it is safe to say that we four Principles are all of a like mind that we wish to see a most evenly sided war. That being said it is most likely that thelmearc will need alot of support from the Kingdoms of the Known World to match the might of the combined forces of the Dragon and Tiger. Thus far I have personally had confirmations from the kingdoms of Ealdomere, Northshield, Trimaris, Caid, and Drachenwald. I have heard from other kingdoms that they wish to wait until Pennsic and see what the actual hard numbers are before they decide which side to fight on. My thought would be to do what we can to bring our forces to a number matching that of the East/Middle and once an equilibrium is reached then the rest of the kingdoms might have some flexibility in deciding where they would like to fight. At this moment I don't think it would be fair or accurate to suggest expected numbers until all kingdoms speak up but I do think it is safe to say that thelmearc/Atlantia will be on the low end numerically. I do welcome further discussion on this matter from all of our Noble Cousins.

The second favor that I must ask is for a donation of prizes for the fighters that take to the field of honor. I am responsible this year for both heavy and rapier tournaments. Last year I had the privilege of running my first tournament. It so happened to be the rapier side of this torchlight tournament and it was the biggest list I had seen all of that year for a tournament with 15 fighters and I hope that this tournament keeps growing for both heavy and rapier combat. Greetings,

I am organizing the Youth Corner for this year's Southern Crusades. I am very excited about having the opportunity to organize the Youth Corner this year. To make this a great event for our children it will take more than just me. I am in need of volunteers to assist in making this a fun event for the children; I am looking for volunteers with the appropriate back ground check and adult volunteers without. (If you volunteer early enough we should be able to get the appropriate back ground checks if you wish to have one).

Due to the Kingdom of Atenveldt Youth Activities We must always apply the "Two Adult Deep Leadership" rule. Two unrelated adults (IE not spouses, children of, parent of, sibling to the other supervisory adult) must be present at ALL times while organized Youth activities take place at SCA sanctioned events. If two unrelated adults are not available, I must CANCEL the organized Youth activity. With that said I am looking for volunteers to help with the youth corner. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions. mailto:Catherine_galyon%40yahoo.com or 520-838-4574.

Good news! Unless something drastic happens between today and next Friday we will be allowed fire pits!!! There are reasonable constraints, but highly necessary.

We may use small fire pits to cook as in the past. Each camp area MUST have a fire extinguisher by EACH area, tents and cooking.  You all know that is required anyway, and remember we may get inspected.

You may have two open fire pits as long as they are kept in the open gravel area we discussed last year. Each fire pit MUST have plenty of fire extinguishers at a hands reach. IF the wind picks up above 25 MPH the open fire pits MUST be extinguished.

All fire pit areas must be supervised by an adult and completely out before being unattended. No fire area will be burning all night without attendance. If all go to bed Fires MUST be fully extinguished with water and stirred to insure they are completely out.  Noone under the age of 18 will be left tending a fire. No exceptions, no matter how responsible they are.

All fires must be kept a reasonable level as not to throw embers etc into higher tree or grassy areas.

All areas will be policed of refuge and smoking material each evening. Smoking materials MUST be placed in metal containers and not disposed of on any ground surfaces. This is an exception to the current Garrison Commander's policy of smoking only being allowed in closed vehicles.  Smokers, PLEASE help us comply no matter how well you put out your cigarettes, cigars, or pipes.

The Fort Huachuca Fire Dispatch Center MUST be called prior to lighting any open fire areas and also when the fires are extinguished. There are neighbors to Fort Huachuca that watch for any sign of a fire in the area, and call to notify them. These calls are important to ensure the safety of us all, as well as the landscape and wildlife.

Fort Huachuca fire units and police units will be patrolling the areas. If they feel that the fire areas are hazardous they will most likely ask they be extinguished. These request must be adhered to without question.

In the event that there is a wild land fire and we have to evacuate we will ask everyone to assemble in a safe place.  This is to allow for an accountability check before calling the fire dispatch to report we have evacuated and that everyone is accounted for.

One additional item, at Barmaids last year someone left and dumped their still burning charcoal on the ground.  Graciously, the members of Sable Millrind prevented a forest fire by willingly delaying their packing to assist the Mons Sherrif, as there was no water on site.  This cannot happen again!  If you have a need to leave and/or have no way to fully extinguish any coals, PLEASE ask for help.

These points are non-negotiable, and violators will be asked to leave if unwilling to obey.  However, because of the wonderful people in our Kingdom we do not believe there will be any problems.

Greetings!

This is a reminder that the First Aid/CPR class on Saturday, September 8 has
been re-opened. The class will be located in Phoenix near Osborn & Central
Streets, there is a light rail station close by. This class is for the benefit
of the Chirurgeonate, but is open to anyone who is interested. We will begin at
9am and go until approximately 6pm. Certification is through the American Heart
Association and includes Basic First Aid, Infant/Child/Adult CPR, and AED
(Automated External Defibrillator) certification. Cost for the class is $45.
Fees cover your class materials, certification card, and upkeep of the
equipment. I am volunteering my time and will make no profit from the class.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IN ADVANCE IF YOU PLAN TO TAKE THE CLASS THIS WAY.

We will order Pizza for lunch, so please be prepared to either pitch in for
lunch or bring your own. Please contact me no later than Friday, August 25 if
you are interested in attending as payment is due no later than Monday, August
27. You can either email me or call me at 480-786-4624 or 480-282-3599 (no
calls after 9pm please).

Please feel free to cross-post.

Mace and Great Sword Archery

To all the archers in the known world, let it be known that there will be
archery at Mace and Great Sword to defend the honor of the Baron and Baroness
and determine the next Champion for the mighty Barony of Mons Tonitrus in Anno
Societatis XLVII.

Having said that, there will be practice on the field Saturday, 18 August, time
to be announced. Practice for the Baronial Championship Tourney will start at
8:30 AM Sunday, 19 August. Youth and Adult Championships will begin Sunday at 9
AM sharp!! Challengers must declare their intention no later than 9 AM Sunday
(you can declare Saturday at practice if you want). This Tourney will challenge
your accuracy, adaptability, and stamina. If you so desire not to declare to be
the next Baronial Archery Champion, you may still shoot just for the fun of it.
Due to time constraints for all activities to be completed, we must be on the
line no later than 9 AM.
