Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

It is time once again for the Barony of Tir Ysgithr to hold its
infamous Gawd Awful Grail Tournament. And this year we are introducing
the Gawd Awful Arts Showcase! The whole Kingdom Populace is invited to
display their Awful Artworks.

Do you have a masterful work that frightens brave men and causes all
women to flee? Or perhaps you still possess your first polyester garb,
tablet weaving that should never see the light of day, or first
attempts at leather or woodworking. Or have you had the inspiration to
create something truly tacky and just needed an excuse?

We would love to see anything that may shock and scar the populace of
our fair realm (family friendly, of course).

Laurels, we would love to see your displays as well! Please encourage
our populace by showcasing your Awful Arts and first attempts.

The showcase will be held at the Gawd Awful Grail Tournament on
Sunday, April 29th immediately after opening court. Shade and tables
will be provided.
Site Address: Himmel Park, 1000 N. Tucson Blvd., Tucson, AZ

Greetings!

This year I am your friendly local Pennsic Land Agent.

If you are considering going to Pennsic with Their Majesties, it's TIME to
pre-register. Pennsic works strictly on a pre-registration basis. This
means that if you DON'T pre-register, there's no land allotted to you.

Land is 250 square feet per person pre-registered. This includes your
tent+ropes, walkways, communal areas such as a firepit and other common
areas. If you personally need more than 250 feet to put your "stuff"
please consider registering an additional adult. Keep in mind that mundane
Pennsylvania fire codes require that 3' be kept clear between tents (that
means fabric to fabric). You may interweave ropes to save space.

MAIL-IN registrations ENDS May 15th
PAID ONLINE registration ends June 15

There's only 100 days until Pennsic!

ROMAN IN THE GLOAMIN' (HADRIAN'S WALL)

As the legionaries patrol their section of the wall in the growing dusk,
thoughts turn to earlier conversation with their fellow soldiers. Will
Hadrian's Wall, an impressive display of Rome's power and might built by
soldiers of the Second, Sixth and Twentieth Legions to keep Romans separate from
the barbarians, deter another raid by the Pict clans? Or will another attach
weaken their diminished garrison? Night steals softly over the ground and it's
difficult to see clearly in the gloaming. One of the guards halts to peer into
the gathering dusk as he listens intently to night sounds drifting though the
air from north of the wall. Are those muffled hoofbeats or perhaps the soft
tread of approaching skirmishers?

The site at Mormon Lake Lodge opens at 8 a.m. Thursday, May 31 and closes at
12:00 noon on Monday. June 4, 2012.

The site is wet. Camping is allowed with propane fire pits only. Bring your
own drinking water as none is available on site. Kingdom minor curfew is in
effect. Pets are welcome but they must be on leashes and you must clean up
after your pet. Smoking is permitted.

Site fees:
Adult member through ACCEPS $25, at the gate $40
http://acceps.ansteorra.org/regit/kingdom_event_display.php?kid=3
Non-member additional $5 to the above rates
Youth (ages 8 through 17) $10
Child (ages 0 through 7) $0

Day site fee:
Adult member $15
Non-member additional $5 to the above rate
Youth (ages 8 through 17) $5
Child (ages 0 through 7) $0

Directions:

GPS is not recommended to find Mormon Lake Lodge, as there have been many people
stranded by the bad roads these routes can take you on. Be forewarned: the most
direct routes (and therefore GPS routes) often traverse unmaintained forest
service roads!

From I-40 traveling East or West: Take the Sedona/Phoenix south turn-off and get
onto 1-17 South. Take the first off-ramp Sedona 89A/Pulliam Airport exit and
turn left and cross back over the freeway and get back onto I-17 North. The
first off ramp is Lake Mary Hwy. At the off-ramp stop sign turn right and travel
according to the following directions.

From Flagstaff: Take the Lake Mary Hwy (FH3) about 21 miles (towards Payson) to
the Mormon Lake Village turn-off sign. Turn right and travel about 7 miles to
the lodge. You will see the roping arena, campground and RV Park on your left
and you will not miss the lodge.

From Camp Verde and I-17: Head East on Hwy 260 through town and continue up the
mountain approximately 31 miles. Once you reach AZ-87, turn left toward Clint's
Well approximately 12 miles. Continue with the following directions from Clint's
Well.

From Payson: Take Hwy 89 north and go through Strawberry and Pine to the little
village of Clint's Well. Just past the store and gas station, turn left and take
FH 3 (Lake Mary Hwy) north towards Flagstaff. Travel about 35-40 minutes and you
will pass the Stoneman Lake Road turn-off. About seven miles past the Stoneman
Lake Road turn off you will see the south entrance to Mormon Lake Village -
watch for the Mormon Lake Village sign on the right side of the road. Turn left
and travel two miles to the lodge. You will not miss the lodge.

From I-17, on the Stoneman Lake Road: Get off I-17 on the Stoneman Lake Road
turn-off and travel about seven miles on paved road to the end of the paving at
a T-intersection with unpaved road. Turn left at the stop sign and travel about
eight miles to the next paved road - FH3 (Lake Mary Hwy). Turn left and travel
about seven more miles to the south entrance to Mormon Lake Village. Look for
the Mormon Lake Village sign on the right side of the road. Turn left and travel
two miles to the lodge. You will not miss the lodge.

NOTE: Stoneman Lake Road, while well traveled, is only paved for 7 of 16 miles
at the I-17 end of the road; the rest of the road is graded cinder road and
might not be suitable for some cars or may be closed in severe weather
conditions. But, this route will cut 40 minutes off a trip through Flagstaff.
This route is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR LOW PROFILE CARS.

To: <atenveldt@yahoogroups.com>

Greetings to the Ministers of Arts & Sciences of the Kingdoms of the Known World from Helena Sibylla, Chancellor of Pennsic University!

As the seasons have turned to spring, no doubt the thoughts of many are turning to the upcoming summer season of events. As Pennsic War approaches, only about 100 days away, I ask that you encourage the artisans and teachers of your realms to take part in offering instruction at Pennsic University!

The deadline for signing up to teach and have class information listed in the Pennsic site book is in just two weeks - Tuesday, May 1. We will still accept registrations after that time, but the information will not be listed in the book. Individuals may also sign up to teach AT Pennsic - we always have spaces available for additional classes!

Interest parties should visit the Pennsic University section of the Pennsic War website. The direct link to the teacher registration page is http://www.pennsicuniversity.org/index.php

Thank you for your time, and I hope to see many instructors from all across the Known World filling our class tents at Pennsic!

Unless there a two Ron Willards in the area, he is Thunder, SCA name Daelanach (sp?) and I have posted to a FB group asking him to contact John and Tawyna.  Hopefully that will be sufficient.

I have someone looking for a Ron Willard of the Barony of one of the following: Atenveldt/Sundragon/Twin Moons, in the Phoenix area? This gentleman said Ron won some kind of "Bones" contest a few years ago. I asked him what his SCA name was and he wasn't sure. The friend, John Cartwright, is looking for him, they, Tawyna Mason, are expecting a baby boy and wanted to let him know that. Please contact him at toiletbug@.... Yes, real person, real email. He walked into my store in Holbrook after seeing my SCA bumper sticker. If anyone knows this gentleman will you let him know and have him contact John. Thanks!

Greetings! The Grand Council is once again soliciting volunteers to serve.

We are an advisory committee to the Board of Directors of the SCA, Inc. Our
charge is to provide productive discussion on proposals for changes to the
Governing Documents of the SCA, as well as to suggest procedural changes for
dealing with modern world problems as they relate to the SCA.

The Grand Council may be called on to offer advice on any sort of policy as
requested by the Board of Directors, but is most frequently involved in
discussions of corporate practice and how our organization functions as a modern
entity.

The Council's discussions cover a wide range of subjects, of both long and
short-term necessity to the Society. Recent topics include our recommendations
on topics that everyone has discussed, such as fourth peerage and same sex
consorts, as well as issues of long term necessity such as communication
strategies, core competencies, and relationships with affiliate corporations.

For more information on the Grand Council, please visit our web pages at:
http://grandcouncil.sca.org/index.html

The council consists of both kingdom appointed representatives and at-large
members. If there is someone you feel should be a member of the Grand Council,
please encourage them to apply as an at-large member. If your kingdom has no
current appointed representative, encourage your Crown to appoint one.

We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, experiences and
locations without any concern for rank or membership status. The Grand Council
meets on-line only, so reliable and frequent e-mail access is a MUST.

Applications are being accepted ONLINE via the Grand Council's Web Page:
http://grandcouncil.sca.org/gcapps/index.php

Applications received prior to May 15th 2012 will be used to fill positions
opening in June of this year. When completing the online form, please be sure
and fill in all requested information. We would encourage you to be as detailed
as possible on your application. Let us know who you are and why you feel you
would make a valuable addition to this advisory committee.

Questions about the Nominations Committee and/or the nominations process can be
addressed to Nominations Committee member: Katrionna MacLochlainn (Lori
Campbell) countesskat@...

The Grand Council Nominations Committee would like to thank you in advance for
your interest in serving our organization. We look forward to hearing from you!
