Keola's Hula Halau is under the direction of Charman Keola and Harrilyn Kealiiheleaupuni Aiwohi and their daughter Deslynn Kaliliokalani Aiwohi-Carter. We promote the polynesian cultures of Hawai'i and Tahiti. We are a hula school and we also have a professional group in Texas under the name of Hawaiian Islanders, under the leadership of Wayne and Carol Kahanu. Keola's Hula Halau is a great way to learn the Kahiko (Ancient) and the Auana (Modern) dances of Hawai'i. Both Kealiiheleaupuni and Kaliliokalani started their knowledge of hula through Aunty Louis and Aunty Luka Kaleiki of "Ilima Hula Studios" in Kalihi. After moving to Texas in 1982, they joined a Kumu Hula in 1985, named Frank Keli'i Chang of Halau Ho'ola Ka Mana 'O Hawai'i. In 1986, Halau Ho'ola Ka Mana 'O Hawai'i flew to Hawaii and entered the King Kamehameha Hula Competition. They were one of the first members in the halau before separating back in the late 80's. Now with their own group underhand, a professional group constantly busy, and the Hoewa'a Dallas Outrigger Canoe Club paddling in the summers, the Hawaiian culture is alive and well in Dallas.
