Sorry, I'll be absent at tonight's unit commissioner's meeting...again.  My club is doing a Christmas show at the Hale Koa Hotel on Sunday and I've been to only 1 rehearsal so far, mainly due to my responsibilities with school and Scouting.  Anyway, here's my report:
Pack 144        Recharter completed online.  Need to get signatures, adult registration forms and fees.
Have all parents signed up into a position.
They attended their first District event, Saturday's Cub-O-Ree.
First pack social will be a Christmas potluck on Monday, Dec. 12th.
They'll be signing up for Schofield Day.
                Pack T-shirt is being made.
Pack flag is being retrieved from former Cubmaster, Kalani Wilmington.
Council account and bank account will be turned over to the new pack leaders by former committee
                        chair, Robert Baysa.
Pack 326        Recharter completed online.  Need to get signatures, adult registration forms and fees.
Attended Mass together in uniform on Sunday, Nov. 19th.
Scouts participated in the service by bringing up the Bible, offeratory, wine, host.
Pack meeting was attended by Grand Knight, Mike Akana, and unit commissioner, Phil                                         Hollingsworth.
Ten (10) of their Cub Scouts attended Cub-O-Ree.
Mike Akana joined the pack and brought bottled water for them.
Concern brought up by Joe Picon and Doreen Kinoshita about this unit bringing siblings to\
Cub-O-Ree.  Will speak with the leaders about this so they'll understand the rules next time.
Christmas potluck scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17th.
Will be signing up for Schofield Day.
        Troop 144
Charter incomplete.  Was to pick-up paperwork from Jayne Burns but when I got there Monday                                 night before the troop meeting, no one was home.  Will follow-up with Jayne this week.
                Have gotten 2 more Scouts.
Zevan from Troop 176 transferred into Troop 144.
Jason from Seoul, Korea has joined also.
Hatcher (Pack 464) visited the troop on Monday.
                Advancement
Held BOR for Shaun Pearce on Monday night and he passed for his Life Rank.
Boys worked on their radio merit badge with AS Keith Gray.  He took them to Schofield last                                 week Monday to work on this.
Other boys worked on personal fitness and reading merit badges.
Boys planned their Christmas party.  Can't remember the date though.

Any questions?  You may call me at 271-9211.  Will c-ya at next Thursday's Roundtable!

Online Recharter Info -- Unit Commissioners and District Commissioners please share with your units

Hi Everyone,

Well we're well into the Online Recharter and this year is certainly more problem filled than last year.  I don't think that the issues we are seeing are related to the users for the most part.  It seems as if they have made changes to the system that have affected its stability.  In any case, here is some info that you can pass along.

1.  ScoutNet will be down from November 11th - November 13th.  What this means is that if a unit has not started the Online Recharter process, they will not be able to
until the 14th.  If they have already started, it will not (or at least should not) affect them.

2.  ScoutNet is normally down for maintenance between 2 AM Sunday morning until 10 PM Sunday night (Hawaii time) every week.

3.  A lot of people have been seeing the error message "Error processing data.  Please try back later."  A representative from Regional said that there were numerous
causes for this error message including:  a blank Address 1 line, "Mac" as a first name, and an apostrophe ( ' ) in the Chartered Organization name.  At last night's
Online Recharter workshop, we determined that you can easily get this message with no errors at all.  The solution seems to be to press the "Back" button in your
web browser and try submitting again.  You may have to do this several times but eventually it seems to take the data and move on.  I am going to try and confirm
with National that doing this is okay.  All I know at this point is that it worked.

4.  Social Security Numbers are required for adults.  If you don't have a number, you need to get one.  Also, once you put in an SSN and finish adding the adult record,
you cannot edit it.  You will have to delete the record and start over.

Turn out at last night's help session was not good.  We had 3 people show up to do recharters.  Two of them were able to complete the process.  One person could not bring up her Troop info at all.  We did figure out the trick of re-trying over and over again to get things through.

Finally, the next help session we have scheduled is at the Aloha Council Field Office on Saturday, November 12th from 9 AM to 1 PM.

Frank Godek

Myrna, and ALL the Commissioners,

Commissioner Meeting is not tonight (OK - take a DEEP BREATH and relax), and not even NEXT WEEK!!!!

However, our NEXT Commissioner meeting, which is NORMALLY scheduled for the FIRST Wednesday of the month (that would be Dec 7....) will be on DEC 14 - It will be a COMBINED Commissioner and District Committee meeting - will be a FUN MEETING, bring snacks to share (like Christmas Cookies, etc.) and a Grab Bag gift for a gift exchange - something "Scouting" related and $10 maximum.

We will also be doing District Recharter that night, so if you are NOT registered and paid in another unit, please bring your money (check or cash or trading stamps - ha-ha) so we can complete all the staff recharters.

We will also be doing Scouter FOS that night, so be ready to fill out a pledge card.

Yours in Scouting,

Barry Nupen
Ka'ala District Commissioner

Wow Myrna!

You really do just keep going...and going...and going.....!

I looked into the matter of Pack 326's unit account at the Scout Shop.  However, when my laptop crashed, I lost most of the emails, including Mike Spencer's.  Do you have it by chance?  I wanted to let him know what I found out about the account, and see if he can track down receipt he has (there was no record of a $400 deposit).

Thanks for all your service!  It's amazing!
Liz

ATTENTION ALL COMMISSIONERS

We are NOT meeting on Wednesday February 1.  I will be in Seattle - Fly tomorrow (Tues) - meetings on Wed, and fly home on Thursday.  I am rescheduling the Commissioners meeting to Friday FEB 10.

Mack - can you let me know if we can schedule our meeting on Feb 10?  If not, I can set up a meeting at an alternate location.

Thanks for ALL that you do for Scouting and, especially, FOR THE BOYS.  Please take a few minutes to contact your units and check on their status.

Also, please review Quality Unit status with your units - many units did NOT turn in Quality Unit forms, probably because they forgot, since it was not part of the on-line recharter.

Yours in Scouting,

Great news, Terry

To all commissioners,  we REALLY need to work with the units to review their status on Quality Unit for this last year.  Many are probably eligible, but, due to the electronic recharter not including that in the recharter process, many units did not review and fill out the quality unit forms.  Please take a few minutes to contact your units and help them "close that loop" for our District and Council - We are SAYING we earned Quality District, but we cannot confirm until we actually get the paperwork from each unit.

I'd like to go a step beyond this, Barry. I think that some units that
qualify don't think they do because they are misinterpreting the requirements.
One unit thought they had to have all 10 requirements in order to get the
award and I'll bet they are not alone.

Would you be able to give a short blurb on both aspects: i.e. don't forget to
file it just because you did Internet Recharter and just what exactly are the
requirements at Roundtable?

Yes, you're right, Frank!  For as long as I've been in Scouts, 18 years, I always thought you needed 100% Boys Life subscriptions.  At the planning conference, I was told we didn't.  If this is the case, I'd say Pack 326 would qualify for quality unit.

Frank, et al,

I've started putting together a short presentation on Quality District for RT
later this week. Addresses/emphasizes the "REQUIRED" 4 items (training,
leadership, on-time recharter, and outdoor activities (except for ventures -
they need Officers), and summarizes the overall total of items made up with the
remaining "need to have 6 more" to make the total of 10.

Hi Myrna,

I was going to ask if you could help out with that one.  Liz had approached me and asked if we could do it and I said that since you had been doing it for the past several years, that I guessed it was a Membership Committee function.

For the UC's, if you could see which units could help that would be great.  If we could have a some Boy Scouts and some Cub Scouts there, I think it would work out well.

Thanks,
Frank

Yes, it's a membership function but the units usually came out to set up the displays and run games.  I remember pack 864 and troop 144 came out one year.  Another year I set up the displays and games with pack 364 helping to man the games.  Pack 464 did it when Sue Viernes coordinated it.  If none of the units come out, then I can help with the display and bring my beanbag toss game again.  Only thing is that I do not want to stay there the whole time, 9:00 am set up and 2:00 pm take down.  I wouldn't mind working a shift though.

Thanks, Barry.  I think this is an important topic.  As of this point, we do not have anyone for the Venturing Report that we started off with last month.  I think that we can forego that this time around and put you in to talk about Quality Unit (I don't think that you mean Quality District).

Yeah - I meant Quality Unit - but that is directly LINKED to Quality District.    Been a LONG day judging District Science Fair.  Just got back from that, and now I'm prepping for tonight's meeting

Thanks, Barry.  I think this is an important topic.  As of this point, we do not have anyone for the Venturing Report that we started off with last month.  I think that we can forego that this time around and put you in to talk about Quality Unit (I don't think that you mean Quality District).

Frank, et al,

I've started putting together a short presentation on Quality District for RT later this week.  Addresses/emphasizes the "REQUIRED" 4 items (training, leadership, on-time recharter, and outdoor activities (except for ventures - they need Officers), and summarizes the overall total of items made up with the remaining "need to have 6 more" to make the total of 10.

I’ll have a flyer @ Roundtable for this.  Can each commissioner contact their units and ask them to consider having a booth?  I’d like to have three units.  Please let me know which units are going to agree to do this from your contacts.

Thanks!

Turns out that I got my dates mixed up so I'll be at Friday's meeting after all.  I might be a little late though because we're having a family dinner with my nephew who's returning to Simi Valley.  Dinner is at 6:00 p.m. so I should be able to slip away after 7:00 p.m.  Well, this means that I'll actually miss tomorrow night's Roundtable.  Aw, shucks!  In case I'm really late to Friday's meeting, here's my brief report:
Pack 144        Continues with their den and pack meetings at St. John's Church in Mililani.
They bought their pinewood derby car kits but are wondering how they can race without a track.
Is Ka'ala District having a combined race again, like last year?
If not, anyone know whose track they can use?
Pack attended Scout Sunday at St. John's Church.
They set-up a photo display with Cub Scout applications.
Their Blue and Gold potluck is on Friday, February 17th.
They're planning a car wash for Saturday, March 18th.

Troop 144        Held a successful Readyman Clinic for Webelos Scouts on Sunday, January 22nd at the Mililani District                         Park's Meeting Room.
Boys shared their first aid skills with confidence to the Webelos Scouts.
                                Fifteen (15) Webelos Scouts from Packs 183, 364, 564, 864.
                                Webelos earned their Readyman pins.
Attended Scout Sunday and brought up the offeratory during Mass.
They were visited by Webelos Scouts from Pack 364.
Their boys are advancing in rank, especially their 3 new transfer Scouts.
They have a couple of campouts planned to Ho'omaluhia Garden and Camp Timberline.

Pack 326        Had a recruitment meeting and signed up 2 Cub Scouts.
Received a $100 check from the Knights of Columbus to purchase their pack flag.
Cost of everything for the pack flag is $254.
Deposited the $100 check from the Knights into their Council account.
Total of $236 in their account so they can't get their flag yet.
Handed out their pinewood derby kits at their last den meeting.
Their Blue and Gold potluck dinner is on Thursday, February 16th.
They made blue/gold tambourines to help them sing a song.
Rehearsed a blue/gold cheer to be done that night.

Would like to "feel the water" for a possible Troop 326 at Our Lady of Good Counsel.  About 6 Webelos from Pack 326 transferred into a troop last year and I just found out that all of them quit.  Parents of these boys are interested in starting a troop.  We may be able to tap into the 7th and 8th grade at the church's school too.  With the enthusiasm in Pack 326 now, I'm sure the establishment of a troop will keep these younger boys in the Scouting program.

Okay, hope I get to Friday's meeting!  C-ya!

C-ya!
