We have joined the Northampton Pub Watch Scheme
At first sight it may appear a little strange that as a Working
Men's Club we have joined the Pub Watch Scheme, but the logic is
very clear and simple.
This scheme is working very well in and around Northampton; in fact
so well that people barred from the pubs in the area are starting to
try to get into our clubs and causing mayhem.
Your management is acting proactively to ensure that we are made
aware of these people and are informed by radio, by the town CCTV
operators, whenever they see a barred person approaching the club.
Please rest assured that our independence is in no way compromised
by our joining the scheme. The police have no extra powers of entry
to our premises. They are purely a part of the team with the Borough
Council who are both working with us to ensure our club remains a
safe place to come and relax in.

Charity
As in previous years, the Committee has kindly allowed me to hold
two tombolas on the club forecourt to raise money for the Oxford
Branch of the Haemophelia Society, which does a lot of good work
supporting many sufferers from this debilitating disease who live in
and around Northampton, including my grandson, Connor.
I would like to thank the Committee and all my fellow club members
who either bought tickets or simply made donations for this cause.
In total we raised £125.00. That was excellent considering both of
the days we chose were extremely hot and there were not many people
were about.

Catering News
As promised last month, we are making a few changes in our catering
operation with effect from 1st August that we hope will appeal to
you.
Firstly we are changing our hours. Orders will be taken between the
following times: -
Monday to Friday 12.00 to 14.30 and 18.00 to 21.30
Saturday 11.00 to 15.00 and 18.00 to 21.30
Sunday 12.00 to 16.30
Friday and Saturday evenings we will be offering a selection of
Basket Meals. You may choose from Scampi, Sausage or Chicken and
Chips. Light finger lickin' snacks of pure enjoyment.
Also, keep an eye on the notice board at the bottom of the Games
Room stairs for details of regular specials.
Looking back over the last few weeks, our Carvery has got off to a
flying start. Those succulent slices of freshly cooked meat and
beautiful freshly cooked vegetables are a great hit. So popular is
the carvery that on our second week we actually sold out of meat
with our last customer. We will not cut it that fine again! The
month's trial is over and, after the universal praise we have
received, the decision has been taken to make the Carvery a
permanent feature on Sundays.
MIDWAY INVESTMENT CLUB
If you fancy a dabble on the Stock Exchange, why not join this club?
We meet once a month in the Ken Taylor Lounge as an informal group.
We are proud of the fact that since we started we have shown an
overall surplus even through the times when the market has been
severely depressed, which it has been more than once in our seven
year history. Our past record does not guarantee future surpluses,
but it does speak volumes.
The next meeting is on Tuesday 15th August 2006 at 20.00.
Just come along to the meeting or give me a call for more

Texas Hold 'em Nights
Where are y'all? When we researched this idea amongst our regulars
there was an overwhelming response in favour. The actual response
has been totally underwhelming!
This is a chance for a game that can be played by everyone
regardless of age and gender. It is a fun night with reasonably low
stakes. A big turnout ensures a big payout for the winners as all
stake money is returned in prizes. We have been approached to see if
we are up for inter- venue competitions!
This game is spreading like wild fire around town. C'mon guys and
gals. Let's whoop it up every Wednesday night at 20.00 and maybe get
to enjoy competition with other clubs in time.

And finally
With the unusual weather we have been having recently, isn't it nice
to know there is a respite from the heat in the lovely caress of our
air-conditioned bar.
If you are close enough, pop in for a nice cool pint and a snack or
meal at lunch times. Our beers always get excellent results when
checked independently by Cask Marque and our food almost always gets
excellent results when checked by our members and guests.
After a long hot day at work, what better than an ice cold shower
followed by a lovely evening with friends in the balmy environment
Kingsley Park offers? (Maybe the ice cold shower is over-doing it a
bit!)
