I have been told I need to find a tx expansion file tool to expand the limits of the 440 band. I was hoping that the Commander group could answer that request.

Commander can do that.  First, read the contents of the radio.  Then from the main menu go to Memories->Band Limits...  It should be obvious from there.

Well, after the latest new version that fixed the "10 channel only bug"  The
2m/220 version still will lock the radio to only allow access to 10 channels,
even if more are programmed.  I brought this issue to the group, but received no
response, so I now re-add it.

I'm not sure I understand John Wilkerson's problem with his radio and
KG-UV Commander, or what the "10 channel only bug" is.

I use KG-UV Commander to program my 2m/220 portable and have no issues
at all. All the programmed channels (128 of them) work just fine. Maybe
I misunderstood John's post?!

When a programming file is loaded by commander, and loaded into the radio, I
only see the first 10 channels.  For some reason, the .tw file gets corrupted
and locks the radio.  I have one of the first generation 2m/220 models.

Hi John,

I think it would help to explain whether "programming file" means a TW file or a Commander file.

I think it would help to post somewhere (maybe create a folder in this group's Files section) any involved files -- TW and/or Commander.  It could also be helpful to post the C:\Program Files\KG-UV Commander\write.log file produced by KG-UV Commander when you write to the radio.  Another thing that could be useful would be a binary dump of the radio (using the OWX program posted at folder http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Wouxun_KG-UVD1/files/Software%20%26%20Drivers/Command%20Line%20Util/ in zip file wouxun_linux-src_win32-cygwin-binary.zip).

John,

I'm sure you've explored all of this thoroughly, but what about the
following: initially read the radio with KG-UV Commander and save it.
Then read the saved file, add some stuff to memory channels (more than
10), and write it back to the radio. Any difference from your earlier
results?

The only problem I had with my 2m/220 HT was when I tried to use an old
2m/440 file, that "bricked" my radio until I wrote the original file to
the radio to recover it.

One thing you must be careful with when using Commander is its ability to write
frequency limits to the radio. If you have limits inserted that the radio can
not handle, you will have problems. This is especially true for the 2m/220
radios and has been known to lock them up.

I  can tell you about on thing that I was about to pull my hair out with.

#1. I now highly recommend the travel plus cd rom for programming any of your radios.

When using this software there are about 3 or 4 different ways to 'export' the data the program generates.

The ONLY way to use it with any other program (like the one for my kenwood) and especially the KG UV software is to export it using the 'radio programming format' button. There is only one button that works. All others won't. It took me about 2 hours or more of trial and error to figure this out.

Once you export it using that and only that format then importing the data is a breeze.

I tried about half a dozen different ways and none worked. Until I hit the magic button.

You can program the radio for where you are at (or will be) in a snap with the Travel Plus CD.

Hello

I made the mistake of programming my KG-UV2D 144-148 420-450 HT before reading

Is there someone that would be willing to supply me with the original read from

Thanks for any help!

Just tried that now.  No good.  Made sure radio was well within bang limits,
even deleted my listen only weather frequency... no dice.

That has exhausted all options.

Hi friends,

Many of us are grateful users of the KG-UV Commander software developed by Jim Mitchell, KC8UNJ.  Jim has spent a great deal of time and effort on this project, and I know there are times when he has forgone time with his family in order to work on the Commander software for us.

I think it would be really great if all of us would take a minute or two to think about how Jim has helped us make better use of our Wouxun radios, and has saved us time and frustration.  And after we have contemplated for a moment or two, let's visit the KG-UV Commander page at http://kc8unj.com/kguv.html, click on the PayPal button, and make a donation of $25, $15, $10, or whatever we can afford.

And here is the special part... add a note with your PayPal donation thanking Jim, and ask him to use your donation to do something special for his family... the folks who have had a bit less time with Jim while he has been working to help us and our hobby (and in some cases, our work).

A commander file.  Original Wouxun .tw file, read into commander, then saved back to the radio.  I'm still working on different configs.  What I have left to do is create a "test" file, problem is, I haven't figured out how to create a new file from scratch.I can just kill memories and recreate them that way from a loaded file, though, so it isn't a "real" problem.

I had this same problem with my uvd1 2m/440 radios too, until the author released the latest version and "killed the bug"

Will update as I progress

Just to clarify a point.

.TW files are the native Wouxun Programming data files, and are
not directly usable with Commander.

Commander data files have a .uvd extension.

New radios generally come with at least a couple of channels programmed. Have
you tried to Read the radio? Something will be read from the radio if the
program is working. Save that initial configuration as a baseline and then add
channels as required.

In KG-UV Commander, just click on the big "New" symbol, and you will have a new blank table in which to enter data.

Larry,
I wouldn't advise just starting with a brand new file, because that will
reset the band limits in the radio when you write the new file to
it....just read from the radio, then save what you get as your file and
make your edits there. When you've programmed what you want, write it
back to the radio and you're done!

Problem Resolved- It was really a sneaky one. I have a seldom used second
monitor that I use with PSDR and my Kenwood TS-940SAT. The KG-UV Commander file
dialog popups decided to jump to the second monitor which was not turned on,
thus the popups were hidden. I don't know what caused the file popups to change
monitors, but I know to be aware of this action next time.

Thank tou all who quickly responded to my post about "Not being able to get into
Commander". With your tuteledge, I am now successful. I now have to ask:

1) Do I have to put both Rx Freq and TX Freq into the spreadsheet or can I just
type in the plus (+) or minus (-) offset.

2) I see that my 1P has a 2m freq in the "A" side and a 1.25cm in the "B" side.
I would assume that sets the limits of the programming range.

3) I also assume that there is not a separate area for the 1.25cm side, and you
assign which Freq you want to a certain channel. What is the "Group/Notes column
for? Is that how you separate 2m from 1.25cm, and how do you do that?

well, you do have to put both frequencies in, otherwise the radio will treat the programmed channel as a "receive only" channel.
I think with your second question you are referring to the two default channels that show up on the spreadsheet when you initially read your radio. These are not the band limits, those are under the "Memories" menu. The others that you are seeing are just examples, I guess you could say.
Also, you are right, there are not two separate areas for the different bands. You program them all in the same area in commander. The group/notes column is just for your reference within commander, it's not actually written to the radio.
(btw a lot of this information is in the readme file that you can access from the Help menu in commander. You might want to take a gander at that, it may answer some of your questions :)

Hope this helps!

Thanks.  I was not able to access the help menu until I downloaded from my radio.

I cannot find reference to "NARR" as listed in the Commander Program column.
What is it used for? I do not want to program my radio until I have a complete
understanding of what I am programming. I have looked in the help file and the
Wouxun operating manual.

Also, can Commander be used to program my KG-699E 2m rig?
