Who are we?

We are a small enthusiastic group of progressive Jews who believe in the continuity of the Jewish people in all of our varied perspectives. The atmosphere of our community is egalitarian and interactive. We honor both the traditional and the modern. Reconstructionist Judaism is a fourth branch of Judaism with our own rabbinical college and 100 affiliated congregations and Havurot (small groups of families worshiping together).

Our group began meeting over ten years ago as a small Havurah. In December of 2000, we decided to expand with a regular schedule of services and events. Though we have grown and continue to attract new members, Kol Ami is committed to maintaining the close-knit, highly participative format of a Havurah as we provide more programs for our community.

Kol Ami: the Northern Virginia Reconstructionist Community is reaching out to singles, couples, and families, both traditional and diverse, to join us as we hold regular services and holiday celebrations, teach our children in our Hebrew School, and develop a schedule of educational and social events where we can build a warm and caring Reconstructionist Jewish community in Northern Virginia.
