This is an open forum for discussion of the John Muir Trail. Whether you are a thru-hiker or plan to use the trail to access other parts of the Sierra, please feel free to take part. This site also connects with other Yahoo clubs related to the Pacific Crest Trail, California's High Sierra and Sequoia/Kings Canyon. To prevent spam, new memberships are approved by moderators, but membership is open to all. Please visit our files and links area for help in planning your trip, but feel free to ask questions or just listen to the discussions. You will find that questions will often generate helpful answers, often expressing a range of views. This group prides itself on good manners and welcomes "newbie" questions.
Please consider adding your past or planned trip to the "Database" section of the Group.
You may see some members of the Group on the JMT this summer wearing a pin based on the picture shown here. You can order a $5 pin (with or without the text "JMT@YG") by e-mail. Instructions in the Group's "Files" area - JMT Pin Order Instructions.
For your first file download, please consider the group overview file.
Be sure and take on any JMT hike the JMT Cribsheet (prints out on one sheet of paper, back-to-back). Contains all the essential phone numbers you'll want for all services hikers need on or off the trail. Vastly more extensive than those given in any JMT Guide Book. All phone numbers validated in 2011.
NOTE: If you wish to join our group, you'll be asked by Yahoo: "Please tell the group owner about yourself and why you would like to join the group." You must provide a reason specifically relevant to our group, not a reason equally applicable to all Yahoo Groups. We require this to avoid spammers from joining.
