From the Foreword by Prof. Mme Colette Caillat,

"In less than 100 pages, Bal Patil (while often
referring to scholarly publications) invites the
reader to take a general view of the beginnings
of Jainism, of essential tenets of its doctrine
(in particular of ahimsa), of its founders and
herores (the Tirthankaras), of some old canonical
texts, of its main groups and sects, of the cults
and ceremonies, further of the various remarkable
monuments that, since more than two millenniums,
bear witness to the spread and glory of this
exceptional community."

"He draws attention to the holy days and festivals,
as well as to the numerous holy places that are
spread all over India and testify to the antique
and lasting grandeur of the Jain faith and
community. Naturally, in Jaya Gommatesha, Bal Patil
focusses on Sravana Belagola, on the history of
Gommateshvara (Bahubali) and the colossul statue
of the hero which, consecrated in 981, crowns the
summit of Indragiri, 470 feet above the plain.
He points to the replicas that have been carved
centuries ago in Karnataka or are being carved
nowadays in Karnataka and Maharashtra, and draws
attention to the less known cave images of
Gommateshvara that can be admired in Badami,
Aihole, Ellora..."

An English adaptation of the Gommatesha Tthudi
composed by Acarya Nemicandra Siddhanta Cakravarti
has also been given.

This book shall be formally released by Svastishri
Charukirtiji Bhattaraka on 08/02/2006.

Only then will this book be available for sale.

The author Bal Patil is an extraordinary Jain, as
intellectual as he is devout, deeply committed to
the Jina dharma, towards which he has rendered
exceptional services for the past several decades.
