I agree with Randy. Don't do it for free. Just because you enjoy juggling
and unicycling, that doesn't mean you shouldn't get paid for it! There are
at least 4 GA Tech students/alumni in the AJA....you, Alan, Keith and
Shawn. Find out how many of you can/want to juggle at the event and then
ask for $$$ per hour per person and tell them it's a discounted rate since
you're all GA Tech people. Consider getting into the event and food as
added compensation. If you're getting paid to juggle, make sure you show up
on time, dress well, and act professional. You've spent many hours
practicing and developing your skills. You'll add lots of fun and visual
interest to the party.

What $$$ to ask for? That depends on your experience. If you've never
worked for hire before, you wouldn't expect to start at top dollar. $50 an
hour seems like a minimum to me. $100 an hour is what I've heard that lots
of jugglers ask for walkaround. Ask whatever you feel comfortable with.
You'll get better at negotiating prices with experience.

Hey this could be a real career boost for someone: MANY years ago a Blue & Gold
Banquet show was the very first performance for Lenny & LaBanana--and most of
you know where we went from there!!!!

Hi,

My name is Lauren and I am a Talent Producer with America's Got Talent. I
am looking for an exceptional juggling act/duo/group of any age and wanted
to see if you have anyone who you think we should bring in? We just
finished Season 4 on Sept 17th. We are already back into casting for Season
5 and are looking to bring top acts in for an invite audition, SEPARATE from
the masses. We are coming to NYC to hold auditions October 31st and Nov
1st. Please let me know if for some reason an act you are recommending
cannot make it tot NYC.

To give you an idea of our ratings this summer, we started our season
premiere with 13 mil viewers and closed our Finale with 20 mil. We are the
#1 television show over the summer which can be incredible exposure for any
talent.

Please feel free to give me a call and I look forward to hearing from you.
Warm regards,

Lauren Lock

I know this has been shown over and over, but  . . . . just to make a point
here. . . .

IVAN PACEL couldn't make it past the first round without a little audience help.
I'm not jumping in that pool of acid.

in fact, they didn't even let him do his act, never made it past 5 ball. . .
This video alone makes me want to throw up every time I watch this show now.
They want "Talent" and by "Talent" *sparkle* they mean singing and ballroom
style dancing.

Avoid like plague.

sorry for the rant : ) I've never really gotten to vent my frustration after
seeing this the first time.

Yeah, we should probably automatically put a disclaimer on all of the
AGT cattle calls posted here. I'm surprised on who auditions, still.
Steve Mills and family and Laura Ernst did this year. I personally
wouldn't bother, but to-each-his/her-own.

One has to remember, it is national TV, and there are many people who are
shallow enough to actually consider selling their souls just to have an
appearance on a National network TV show. It is a sad but true reality. Anyone
that I know who has actually had an experience making it past the audition phase
has not enjoyed it, or done well. The have "roles" that they typecast acts into,

their grist mill. Stay away from these parasites. They only want to play you for

Too bad there's not someone(s) who could put them in their place.

But hey, I don't watch it, the best stuff will show up on Netflix or YouTube
anyway. It's not called the boob-tube/idiot-box for nothin'.

Suggested listening - "I'm the Slime" from "Over-Nite Sensation" Frank Zappa &
the Mothers. Also:

"There are good and bad uses for television, but the media of television itself
is biased toward certain uses — and certain abuses. As Jerry Mander argued in
Four Arguments for the Elimination of Television, the physical nature of
television of the 1960-1970s— its flickering cathode ray screen images
broadcast one-way over a centralized network — induced a bias of
physiological passivity. There was nothing to do but sit back and receive. TV as
it was structured was biased to producing couch potatoes. It was also an
effective propaganda device. In the west most of the propaganda was generated by
corporate advertising. In Mander's view television manipulates our psyche with
clever emotional pitches to convince us we need more technology  in our lives;
that we can't be happy without a cellphone or car. Among the gadgets it
persuades us we need are more media devices, which in turn will manufacture more
desires for more technology. Thus technology encourages (or forces) us to
produce more technology , so we become mere vehicles in technology's
takeover."--Kevin Kelly

Hey! I LIKES technology in my life!

The trick is to actually master it, not let it control you.

Apparently Mark Faje is already in town and has invited us to have our Tuesday
night meeting at the Variety Playhouse. Should be fun so come and hangout with
us before the show. Go around back to the performers entrance to get in. I
suggest parking at the Community Center and walking the block or so to the
Variety (on the right about a block before you get to the L5P intersection). -J

PS Laura or anyone else who can't make it until later, be sure and email Bruce
to get your name on the comp list.

Hello. I'm a producer with America's Got Talent interested in sending a rep
to your juggling event in February. A couple questions for you....

How many jugglers usually attend?

What types of juggling do you exhibit?

Ages?

Size of groups?

Open to the public if we wish to attend?

Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that you answer honestly. However I would point out that his
reputation would be that of a talent scout for the Roman Coliseum, who were
known to make great promises that only lead to death. I would also point out
that the festival will not handle large crowds, so while we cannot keep from
attending we ask that he not advertise the fact that he will be there.

In other words, shoot he down in flames, but do it politely.

Very good suggestion Rick. It's a public show but I don't want anyone to
upstage us. We're putting on a competition and show for the jugglers and
public, not for talent scouts (if that's what you'd actually call them ... I
can think of a few other names).

Hi Kim,

Please come to our meetings at L5P anytime. We'd be happy to have you!

We'd also be happy to post your meetings on our yahoo group. I'd suggest
that you have them on a different night than our regular Tues and Thurs
meetings. People show up there to our meetings that don't read our email
group and might not know if we had moved the meeting. We need to have
jugglers at the L5P location on Tues and Thurs nights.

You might try a Wed night. In the 90's we had meetings at a church gym in
Sandy Springs on Wed nights and those were well-attended. Sunday afternoon
is another possibility.

See you soon!

Hi my name is Charlie Moore and I am the manger for Blizzard of Ozzy (who is
part of Bearland Entertainment Group, LLC), a local Ozzy Osborne tribute
band. We are hosting a huge production show/concert at Wild Bills on Dec. 5th
and I am looking for some help and performers for the show. The night is
being billed as Ozzfest meets carnevil (kind of evil circus/freak show). We
are looking for performers that can help us out. If you do anything that
might fit and would be interested in joining us please contact me ASAP. We
are looking for all types but especially the following roles: Freaks for
audience mingling, “little person”, juggler, etc. The commitments would be
Dec. 5th (show date) and maybe a couple of hours a few nights before to go
through it one time. There is little a little pay, but we will do what we
can to compensate you as much as we can. If you are interested please
drop me a line at chasing76@.... Thanks!

  Charlie Moore

Hi Krystal,

could you give me (us) a little more info about the event?

Were you looking for some walkaround type juggling or a stage show?

I'm interested in attending, and may be able to pull some other tech students
out there too, depending on how busy they are : )

Please forward this to all of your members. Thanks.

*INVITATION TO SEND YOUR BROCHURES TO THE 9TH ANNUAL SOUTH METRO PERFORMERS'
SHOWCASE*

*Dear Performer*
I am writing to see if you would be interested in having your
brochures/flyers distributed at the eighth annual South Metro Performers'
Showcase to be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010. The roster of performers
invited to participate and present at this showcase has already been filled.

However, we do want to provide information about other performers Based on
last year's attendance we estimate the attendance for this eighth annual
showcase to be approximately 90 people. Those in the audience will be
primarily staff from public libraries who book programs. However, we have
also invited teachers and librarians from local school districts and
representatives from other agencies that schedule programs for youth and
families. We request that you provide us with 90 copies of your
brochure/flyer.

It would be helpful if your brochure/flyer contained some or all of the
following information: references, intended audience age, length of
program(s), fees, program descriptions, any restrictions on audience size or
meeting room size, and mileage charges if applicable. If fees are
negotiable, a price range should be included. Please note that library
staff from public libraries in other areas of Georgia has also been invited,
so each you should indicate any limitations regarding the distance you will
travel to present a program. . In 2010 the theme for all public libraries
in Georgia and 44 other states will be "Make a Splash . . . Read!" The 2010
Teen Reading theme will be "Make Waves @ Your Library." Please note that
Georgia now participates in a Summer Reading Program Cooperative which owns
the copyrighted Summer Reading Program artwork. Therefore this annual
artwork may not be used by performers in their flyers and promotions. Some
performers develop special programs around the annual Vacation Reading
Program theme, but this is not a requirement. We realize that the economic
times are hard for performers now, but please be aware, when setting your
fees, that the funds allotted for programming in most public libraries have
been greatly reduced. However, a good recommendation from one library
usually results in additional bookings by other libraries.

Please deliver or mail your flyers to Sonya Reed at Fayette County Public
Library, 1821 Heritage Parkway Fayetteville, GA. 30214. Please clearly mark
the package and brochures "For Jan. 14, 2010 Performers' Showcase." The
phone number for that library is: 770 305 5426 or 770 461 8841. If you live
near either the Clayton County Library Headquarters Library of the Griffin
Public Library, the brochures may also be delivered to Marsha Parham,
Griffin Public Library, 800 Memorial Drive, Griffin, GA 30223, or to Janice
Arcuria, 865 Battle Creek Rd., Jonesboro, GA. 30236. If you deliver them
personally to Janice at the Clayton County Headquarters Library, leave them
at the front check-out desk with "Janice Arcuria" noted on them. If you are
delivering flyers to Marsha or to Janice, please deliver them no later than
5 p.m. January 11. The Fayette County Library's meeting rooms will open at
8:30 on January 14 so brochures could also be delivered there between 8:30
and 9:00 a.m. Brochures will be made available on tables in the smaller
room on the right side of the entrance lobby. Brochures that are delivered
later in the day on January 14 will probably be missed by some of the
audience participants. Please don't deliver any flyers prior to January 6
since the library doesn't have space to store them.

Some performers opt to show up on the day of the performance and mingle with
the participants during the morning break, lunch and following the showcase.
However, seating space is limited and if sufficient seating is not
available, non-presenting performers may be asked to stand in the back or
step into the lobby. All performers, including those not presenting, are
asked to check in when they arrive at the table in the rear of the room. Any
performer who attends should bring his/her scheduling calendar.

If you need additional information I can be reached by phone with voice mail
770 210 5238, by fax 770 210 5238, or by email arcuriaj@... I
will be out of the office on November 23-26, November 28, 2009; December
23-28, January 1 & 13, 2010

Hi my name is Charlie Moore and I am the manger for Blizzard of Ozzy (who is
part of Bearland Entertainment Group, LLC), a local Ozzy Osborne tribute
band. We are hosting a huge production show/concert at Wild Bills on Dec. 5th
and I am looking for some help and performers for the show. The night is
being billed as Ozzfest meets carnevil (kind of evil circus/freak show). We
are looking for performers that can help us out. We are really trying to
find juggler. If you would have anyone that might be interested please pass
on my information to them. We are in dire need of one. The girl we had
just backed out. The commitments would be Dec. 5th (show date) and maybe a
couple of hours a few nights before to go through it one time. There is
little to no pay, but we will do what we can to compensate you as much as we
can. If you are interested please drop me a line at chasing76@....
Thanks!

This is to Alan, Justin, Keith and anybody else who may have connections to GA
Tech. I worked at a school in Acworth and the PE teacher gave me an AJC clipping
from April about Derek Dietrich, who plays shortstop there. It was all about his
juggling skills that he developed in Cleveland, OH with his high school circus
company: St. Ignatius. Has anyone ever invited him to AJA or know him? He
credits juggling with his baseball success. Just thought it was cool!

Wish I could make it to DrewBob's for fried turkey, but I'm gigging that
evening. Get well soon Charles!
