Colorado is an independent-minded state, with lots of third party supporters, so we have to improve our voting system to make sure that a vote for the best doesn't help to elect the worst. That can happen in our plurality voting system, where the winner doesn't have to earn a majority of votes, so a third party candidate can split the votes with the "lesser-of-two-evils" letting someone win that most people like the *least!* This must change, and instant runoff voting will do it. Voters get to rank the candidates (1, 2, 3) and if no one gets a majority of first-choice votes, we hold an instant runoff. We eliminate the last-place candidate and count the votes for their runoff choices among the surviving candidates to see who has earned the most support. This eliminates the wasted vote syndrome and ensures majority rule. Help us implement instant runoff voting in Colorado.
Hi All, FairVote has set up the following website as an informational resource for Aspen voters, who will be using instant runoff voting in local elections
