Raging debate of Reservation has been a never ending
saga in Indian Political Scenario,Debate
in a sense is vital for a democratic country. However,
the quality of debate has over last few years
has been more ulterior than delving deeper into the
issue. The debates range from how caste
system will divide Indian Society, how reservation are
not the solution, and how Indian
economic growth will get impacted by such kind of
retrograde steps.
Before getting into details of above debate let us
look at some facts,
-The government is proposing Reservation for OBC in
higher education, which
include the famous IIT and IIM
- These institutions have viewed this positively and
increased the number of students intake thus not
effecting the general quota
-The Reservation for OBC's existed and have been
successfully implemented in Southern States of India.
-And Take this the South has been seeing an
economic boom because of the number of Engineers
that it supply to the IT(Knowledge) Industry
- Vast majority of Indians fall under the section of
OBC

With this facts in Mind let us try to take the common
debates across the country

First and foremost argument that is being put forward
is caste system will divide the
country further, what i fail to understand is isn't
Indian community already divided
on caste lines? Is this something new that is going to
happen?. Perhaps if the
other castes understand the importance of
inclusiveness then there won't be any
such divide and they also need to concede and
understand the fact that they
cannot ignore the past history of Subjugation. We must
understand we can
only progress together and not alone
Reservations are not the Solution:
Yes, when you look at the face of it this is not the
solution. But what else
is the solution, people who oppose this policy do they
have good feasible
solution in hand or they just browbeating on roads.
Some random solutions
do come up like improve basic facilities, provide
primary education free of cost etc.,
But what i fail to understand is does the Indian
government have so many resources
on hand to implement such ideas, yes this is a short
term and easy solution.
But those marauding on roads against this policy
should first have a draft
solution as to what can be a solution for this
Historical Sins committed

Economic growth of country will get effected:

Growth of what nature and which growth are we talking
about, if the same growth leaves
majority of Indians behind and then what is the use of
this so called Growth?. If
we leave them behind will we not plunge into Social
anarchy. And how are we
planning meet the vast requirement of man force that
this growth requires,
and ensure that this reaches all the segments of
society. Some would
argue that the quality of Skilled worker will get
diluted, IT industry
has been arguing that very less percentage of people
coming out
of colleges are really employable in that sense the
quality of
our education has never been good enough to meet the
international
standards.
Merit is quite a contentious and outrageous word in
Indian scenario
a country which has failed to get a Noble in the past
50 yrs, and its
contribution towards science has been nil should not
talk of Merit.
If i conclude without a roadmap it will not help .
Here is a roadmap for Policy
-Study the impact of Reservation so far on Indian
Society
-Plug the loop holes in the system
-Ensure that this reaches the targeted people,
introduce creamy layer concept going forward for all
-Collect data of different castes and freeze this list
for next 30 years
-Study the pattern of change in this list every 5
years and Remove the caste from the list after
considerable improvement
-Phase out the reservation slowly
I also urge people who have benefited from the policy
should in turn help in by providing correct
information and opting out of the benefits for their
future generations. And most importantly
not to misuse the policy in way to cause a heartburn
to others.
And most importantly Have more academic and
statistical debates instead of high
decibel one :)

Regards
Vijay
