Description
This group is dedicated to both the memory and image of Marie Antoinette (1755-1793). It is a site for both collection and presentation of images of this Queen of France who lost both her crown and her life during the French Revolution, and also for discussion of the Queen and her images. Portraiture, miniatures, drawings, caricatures, all are welcome and all are open to discussion. Some images carry us to the heights of 18th century opulence as we view Marie Antoinette at play at Trianon or with her children or the majestic Queen of Versailles at the height of her splendor and power as painted by Elizabeth Vigee LeBrun. With her corsetted hourglass figure, blonde beauty and fashion sense, Marie Antoinette set trends in European costume for a generation. Other images push us to the depths of dispair, contempt and public humiliation, as the haggard Widow Capet is shown inprisioned by the revolutionary populace, tried for her life, and then sketched by J. L. David on her way to the guillotine. All images of Marie Antoinette and comments on the images and the Queen and woman protrayed are welcome to this group.
