Udupi: Agitators Against Madesnana Cane-charged near Krishna Temple

Udupi: CPI(M) activists have been arrested by the Town police when they were trying to enter the Krishna Temple here on December 27.

The padayatra was flagged off in Mangalore by the Religious Head of Nidumamidi Mahasamsthana Math, Bangalore Shree Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji in Mangalore on December 24.

The State Secretary of CPI(M) B Madhava, Sunil Kumar Bajal, Muneer Katipalla, K Shanker, Vasanth Acharya, Srirama Reddy and more than 3,000 CPI(M) members participated in the padayatra.

Before the flag off in Mangalore, the CPI(M) members staged a protest against the inhuman act of Made Madesnana in front of the DC office. Shree Veerabhadra Channamalla Swamiji said that the Made Madesnana is nothing but discrimination of lower caste by the upper caste. There is a belief that if anyone roll over the left overs one will be cured from skin diseases. There is also a belief that prayers will be answered, and childless couples will be blessed with children. Opposing such beliefs the Swamiji had said that there is absolutely no cure for any skin diseases but chances are very high to be infected with skin disease if anyone rolls over the leftovers.

The protesters were on padayatra to Sri Krishna Temple in Udupi, when they reached near Sanskrita College, police stopped them from proceeding further. There was a commotion between the police and the protesters. Police resorted to lathi charge to control the protesters from entering inside the temple. All the leaders of the CPI(M) have been taken into custody.

Communist Party of India (Marxist) will picket Udupi Sri Krishna temple to protest against the âMade Snanaâ and âPankthi Bedhaâ here on December 27.

Speaking to media persons, Udupi District CPI(M) Secretary K Shankar said that the CPI(M) has organised a jatha from Byndoor to Udupi on December 24, to condemn the rituals of âMade Snanaâ and âPankthi Bedhaâ.

Senior leaders of the party, progressive thinkers and leaders from various organisations will take part in the protest. CPI (M) Central Committee Member Srinivas Rao will inaugurate the jatha from Mangalore Deputy Commissionerâs Office on December 24 that will reach Udupi on December 27, he added.

He accused that both âMade Snanaâ and âPankthi Bedhaâ are inhuman rituals. The party strongly condemns any modifications in âMade Snanaâ to âEde Snanaâ as proposed by the State government. Both are similar rituals and hardly make any difference.

The State government should properly describe the inhumanity hidden behind the practice of the ritual to Supreme Court and stress for the need to ban the ritual, he added.

He said that the Supreme Court had only stayed the High Court order and it is not the final verdict. It is not the victory of âMade Snanaâ. The State-level campaign against the evil practices intends to create awareness among mass over the superstitions and false notion hidden in the practice, he said.

Activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) have decided to forcibly enter the Sri Krishna temple in Udupi on December 27 to protest against discriminatory serving of food at the centuries-old mutt.

âLast year, we tried our best to enter the temple, but the police prevented us. This time around, we have decided to enter the temple forcibly, come what may,â State CPMâsecretary and former MLAâG V Sriram Reddy told reporters here on Saturday.

The CPM has taken serious note of Brahmins and others being fed separately at the mutt, Reddy said and sought an end to the practice.

To create awareness against the practice, the party will launch two jathas - from Kukke Subramanya and Byndoor - on December 19. Both jathas will converge on Udupi on December 27 and CPM members will forcibly enter the mutt established by Madhwacharya in the 14th Century.

The CPM, which has launched a movement against âmade snanaâ (the practice of Dalits rolling over leftover food eaten by people of the upper castes) at the Kukke Subramanya temple, has criticised the government for deciding to continue the practice in another form called âyede snana.â

In response to a writ petition filed by Veerabhadra Channamalla Swami against âmade snanaâ, the government has filed an affidavit stating that it will ban âmade snanaâ in the present form and continue âyede snanaâ, enabling devotees to roll over banana leaves containing food offered to Lord Subramanya.

âIt is unfortunate that the High Court has agreed to it. But we donât agree. We want a total ban on any such practice,â Reddy said.

He alleged that the concept of âyede snanaâ was not that of the government, but of Vishveshateertha Swami of the Pejawar Mutt.

Bhimasenaâs Bhaghavatha Dharma

Bhimasena always followed the Bhaghavatha Dharma in a stupendous manner. As a Bhavi Brahma he gave us an extraordinary message. Here is the Bhaghavatha Dharma which was quoted by none other than our Master of Master Guru Shri MadaanandaThirtha Bhaghavathpadaru in the 18^th Chapter of MBTN.

The weapons procured by the Dronacharya from Parushurama(God of Weapons) Arjuna kept aside those weapons for other Princes. YadArAmAdavAptAnidivyAstrANiprapedire |droNAt.hkumArAsteshhvAsIt.h|

MBTN 18.1.

Bheemasena was born warrior with all kinds of weaponry art. He had an extensive knowledge of using the weapons. But, he never disclosed that to anyone. He feels that using the weapons in the war is not the perfect following the Bhagavathadharama. nijapratibhayAjAnan.hsarvAstrANitato.adhikam.h|MBTN 18.2.

When using the weapons in the warfare one should pray the respective Gods of those weapons. Without taking the blessings from the respective Gods one cannot use those weapons. Bhimasena considers that, requisition from the Gods will not come under the purview of the Clear-Bhagahvatha dharma(shuddha bagavatadharma) and if one does requisition kaarya the same it becomes âkaamyakarmaâ.

For learning about the weapons he never begged from Dronacharya. He is saravajna in all the fields, so where is the necessary to beg. Bhimasena always against of begging it is not a kshatriya dharma. When the begging has been compulsory also Bhimasena never used to beg. If he wants to beg he behaves like a business man. When Pandavas were in disguise as Brahmins in the Ekachakra town during their exile, they have to beg. But Bhimasena never accepted the begging kaarya. When With one loud voice of Bhimasena, people were used to bring food grains at his doorstep with great respect for him and this cannot be considered as a begging and this is nothing but getting through the principle way for kshatriya nahibhAgavatodharmodevatAbhyupayAchanam. h|MBTN 18.3.

Neither Bhimasena nor he ever gave permission to others to do final funeral rites of a person, who hates the Lord Shri Hari. He never pleased the enemies of Lord Shri Hari. nachaourdhvadaihikAnuj~nAmavaishhNavakR^ite.akarot.h | MBTN 18.9.

Bhimasena never friendly with the non vaishnavas. He was supportive to the Vaishnavas. He used to slit the tongues of the people who defamed the Lord Vishnu directly or indirectly.

Degrading the Vishnu-Vaishnavas was prohibited during bheemasenaâs presence. Whenever there was defaming of the Lord Shri Vishnu in any situations, one must always try to stop. Otherwise we should avoid the same by leaving from that place.

People who go against the Lord Shri Hari. Bhimasena is used to kill them. Being the Sarvajna (master of all Arts) he never doubted the Hari Sarvaothamatva. He had firm belief in the Bhaghavatha Dharma and BhagavathaTatva since time immemorial. pratIpakAriNohantivishhNorvainAnajIghanat.h MBTN 18.11

I have sung the mangaLam from shrii vEnkaTEsha paarijaata kaavya of shrii gOkaavi anantaachaaryaru with some illustrations of old pictures of Lord Venkateshwara and Mother Padmaavati (some of which are from my Great-GrandParents' time). Please kindly view/hear the song at your leisure. The tune is the one that we have traditionally sung in our family - madhyamaavati raaga, aadi taaLa. The 1st illustration in the video is that of shrii gOkaavi anantaachaaryaru.

I'm very fortunate to have been introduced to shrii vEnkaTEsha paarijaata by our family elders. It's a delight to sing this kaavya - which provides maximum potential for kalpanaa (within the rhythmic vachana-s) as well as most versatile songs set to many raaga-s/taaLa schemes. The vachana-s especially are like doing 'taanam' and can be sung with full manOdharma being applied impromptu. These vachana-s can be turned into songs as well - like the 1st adhyaaya vachana "huttave kousalye" - which we sing both as a vachana and as a song in itself. My most favorite part of this kaavya is the 6th adhyaaya - koravanji kathaa - the most delightful segment.

If this e-mail and my recording reaches the vamshiikaru of shrii anantaachaaryaru - I humbly request to establish contact with them.

I'm on the look-out for "shrii kriShNa paarijaata" - saahitya. If anyone has this book - can you please scan it and send it to me? It's listed on the back-page of other publications by Pavanje Gururao in the early 1900-s - of my vEnkaTEsha paarijaata book.

I am Vinay.. Core member of IT Madhwa sangha at Hyd... We have Rayaru matha at Kadiri.. Rayaru Brindavana is around 200 years old.. Kadiri is Lord Lakshmi Narasimha swamy Temple Kshethra...

Since Rayaru Matha is quite old, Mutt is looking at renovating Electrical wiring work and in Need of around 15,000 - 20,000 Rupees.... Wanted to find if any of our Madhwa Bandhus wanted to contribute for this cause....
