EVERCLEAR dedicated their new CD, Songs from an American Movie Vol. 1 to
ACES. Learning How To Smile, which was released in July 2000. Frontman Art
Alesakis testified at Congressional hearings to improve child support
enforcement across the U.S.
ACES, Association for Children for Enforcement of Support, is pleased to
announce that Art Alexakis of Everclear testified with ACES President,
Geraldine Jensen at Congress about the need for a national child support
system. Both Ms. Jensen and Mr. Alexakis testified at the Subcommittee on
Human Resources of the House Ways and Means Committee in support of HR 1488,
the Compassion for Children and Child Support Enforcement Act of 1999 on
March 16.
HR 1488, Compassion for Children and Child Support Enforcement Act of 1999,
Cosponsored by U.S. Representative Henry Hyde (R-IL) and U.S. Representative
Lynn Woolsey (R-CA) will: transfer child support collection and enforcement
responsibilities to one central location the Internal Revenue Service. Child
support will be collected from an absent parent's paycheck, just like other
payroll deductions. Information on non-custodial parents will be housed
within one agency rather than the 50 different State agencies and private
vendors.
Art Alexakis wrote about his own experience being raised in a single parent
family in "Father of Mine", a top five hit on Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks
Chart in 1998. He will be testifying on behalf of the 30 Million children
owed over $50 BILLION in unpaid child support across the U.S.
ACES, is the largest child support group in the United States with almost
400 chapters in 48 states and 40,000 members across the nation. Our members
have joined together to seek improvements in the child support system.
