About the ICG-D Mailing List
Updated 4/23/2006

ICG-D is the official mailing list of the International Costumers Guild. It is
intended for, but not limited to, the general membership of the ICG. Its
purpose is to promote discussion about all aspects of costuming and costuming-
related activities. The sick jokes, constant punning, and occasional bouts of
silliness are just a by-product of gathering creative minds together in a
forum such as this.

The official mailing address is ICG-D@yahoogroups.com. While the list is
generally unmoderated (that is to say, messages don't get checked before being
posted to the list), the moderators of the list will not hesitate to put a
poster on moderated status should the situation call for it.

New members are kept on moderated status until they have posted to the list
several times. This is done to prevent spammers from attacking the list. The
moderators will grant full posting privileges as soon as we're sure you're not
an evil nasty spammer.

Policies of the ICG-D mailing list:

1) No Flaming. The moderators will issue one and only one warning.
If the flaming continues, all parties flaming will be unsubscribed.
We expect participants to treat each other with respect and courtesy.

2) No SPAM! Suspect addresses in subscription requests will have their
identity verified and be removed so fast the air will crackle.

3) No Chain Letters. I know some of them pull at your heart strings
or have you fearing for your hard drive, but most are inaccurate
(at best), out-of-date or fake (at worst). When given a chain letter,
your best policy is to visit the Urban Legends page at www.snopes.com
and see if it's mentioned out there. Odds are it will be.

4) When you change the topic of conversation, do everyone a favor and apply
that change to the subject line as well. Keep the subject line short. Do
not use the subject line as the first line of your message.

5) Every so often the list will drift off topic. The moderators' general
belief is that there's nothing wrong with a bit of side conversation from
time to time so long as there aren't too many on-topic discussions going
on and being interfered with. If the side discussions are going on too
long, the moderators will politely clear their virtual throats and ask for
an end to things. Please do so. Moderators do terrible things when they
     get cranky.

6) When replying to a post, please copy the pertinent parts of what you're
replying to so that everyone gets a point of reference. Do not, however,
copy all 500 lines of said post before replying.

7) Please avoid one-word or one sentence replies. Make your posts meaningful.

8) If your email account starts bouncing messages, we will make one attempt
to correct the situation. If this attempt fails, or the bouncing returns
after a successful restoration, your email address will be removed from
the list. Please be aware that a number of freemail account holders such
as Hotmail and others have limits on how much mail can be received and
will bounce messages when that quota has been exceeded.

9) There are several ways you can read messages on the ICG-D list:

     a) Receive individual messages to your email account
     b) Receive digests, sent in groups of 25 or in one-day packages
     c) No-email; read messages out at the ICG-D folder of Yahoo Groups

You can contact the moderators to have your email delivery changed, but
if you have a Yahoo Profile you can make these changes yourself (or in
the case of the third method listed above, just go out to the site and
     read to your heart's content).

The ICG-D list's home page is at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ICG-D/

For those of you loathe to provide any provider with personal information,
let me point out that the Webguy's Yahoo Profile shows him to be Mr_Gengar,
a resident of the Pokeville Vermillion Forest, and no one from Yahoo has
     called him on it yet.

To register with Yahoo Groups, visit the main Yahoo Groups page at
     http://www.yahoogroups.com and click on "Register".

If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact us.

I have heard that Kevin Roche (con chair of CC26) has won the ICG Lifetime
Achievement Award and that Aurora's group Trinity Blood, has won Best in
Show: Workmanship and Best in Master Class: Recreation. Both are members of
the SiliconWeb and I am proud to have them as our members!

Congratulations!!!

All true!

Further input, but not full details because (for the first time in 9
years) I wasn't keeping detailed notes...

Best in Show at the SF Masquerade was won by Deb, Rhiannon and Bryan
Jones for their "The Hobbit - There and Back Again" entry. The Trinity
Blood group was fabulous - Huge piles of work went into it and I think
it paid off in major ways. Mike Sawyer wore a Lance I. "Manticore"
costume which won something in workmanship and something else in
presentation. I wish I could remember the rest.

Brag time: Erin and Katie Delaney (my kids, if you've been living
under a rock or didn't already know) won both workmanship and
presentation (Too Cute to Live) awards for their "Flower Fairies" in
the Junior division.

29 entries in the SF, I forget how many in the Fashion Show (but it
was respectable - 19?), and 14 in the Historical. There were BiS
awards in Documentation, Workmanship and Presentation (or maybe
overall) in the Historical, and I can't remember any of them except
the final BiS, for Torch Song (?), a fabulous 1940's recreation.

Other things to note:

Sunday night, Jacqueline M. Ward received the third Costume-Con
Founder's Award. I believe Cathty Leeson called her last night to tell
her. Alix already mentioned she wasn't able to come, and she was very
much missed this weekend.

Also during the weekend, I auctioned off two large boxes' worth of
items Kelly Turner donated to benefit the CC Archives, and we raised
$432, thanks to the amazing generosity of the folks in attendance. On
top of that, Becky Demonja donated her Best in Show Shoe Contest entry
to raise funds. Pierre Pettinger received $40 for the ICG Archvies
from the auction.

There were some fabulous things crossing the stage and in the halls.
I've got some pictures (mainly the Doll Contest and the Show Contest),
but no space left on my computer to upload them.

I'm very sorry I can't recall the rest - it's been a very long (but
very good) weekend so far.

We're leaving tomorrow - staying today to go and see some stuff around
town and then out to dinner this afternoon and thence to the
Mous(k/qu)erade. Sometime during the day we'll pack up.

I already have the DVDs from the shows this weekend, so anyone local
to me (in MD) is welcome to come on over and watch them. I'm even
trying to arrange for a copy of the half-time entertainment on
Saturday night (Match Game CC), in my opinion one of the best choices
for half time I've seen in a really long time!

In all it's been a fun weekend (thanks to all involved in the event).

We're off to the zoo this morning (I think), with breakfast first.
IHoP here we come!

I still need to get into the exhibit room to take pictures of the
exhibits themselves before they go away. It looked (in quick glances)
like a very well laid out room! I may also go get a mouse or hamster
for this evening's event. Or not...

Kudos to the con staff, co-chairs, volunteers and participants for a
great weekend!

Cheers,

Betsy

I just learned that Catherine, who is also a SiliconWeb member, is a part
of Aurora's award winning group (that sounds pretty nice eh? :-) )
Congratulation again....

Gentlebeings:

Okay! "A Needle Pulling Thread" is a Canadian needlework magazine.
www.aneedlepullingthread.com
This June, I am being featured in it, with a pattern and instructions for
"The Stained Glass Widow". The magazine is available in The States, as well as
Canada; or you can order it from Carla directly, either single issues or by
subscription.
If you want to see the doll, she was in the last issue of "Art Doll
Quarterly", as well as all over the current CDAA website. Try
www.dollartists.ca , enter, themes, something a little bit different.

             Mon Apr 2, 2007 11:40 am (PST)

I appologize if many of you see or receive this missive more than
once- I am trying to get the word out:

My fabric wholesaler is at it again! He's gone through 2 more units
and has thousands of yards of fabric for sale. We will be meeting at
his storage units next Saturday 4/7/07 at 4pm.

     Here is the address:
     The Acropolis storage units
     3200 Highland Ave # B4, National City, CA 91950

Find your way to highway 54 (5,15, 805 south will all lead you there)
and exit on Highland Ave. The storage center is on the WEST SIDE of
     the street.

Bring Cash. LOTS OF IT. There are atm's nearby- 7-11 up the street
and a credit union across the freeway in case. Please also bring
paper and pen to keep tally of your yardage.

Fabric will cost between $2-$5/yard, there may be some $1/yard but I'm
     not sure.

Please spread the word! The more the merrier! Forward this to your
     household, warband or subgroup lists.

Thanks! I hope to see alot of you there!

Hats off and many thanks to the folks who ran CC25!!! You did a
tremendous job. Once again I had a great time seeing old friends and
making new ones.

See you next year,

So we're back home and tired, but very gratified that everyone had a good time
at the con. We'll pop on with more info over the next few days to talk about
various things, including (we hope) a list of the winners, unless someone else
kept track of them all.

Usually, when we go to a CC, some of us who attended put our impressions
together and I write a review. Well obviously, since we ran the con this time,
we can't really do that - we were working it. So, if anyone would like to pop
on and do one, we'd love to hear what they thought. Meanwhile, I'll put
together some notes on what went on and any anecdotes that I remember and put
'em up - maybe they'll jog a memory or two from other people.

Hello All:

I made it back home. The flight was delayed a half-hour from St. Louis,
and we had some bumpiness because of the storm.

I got to go up the St. Louis arch before I left, and that was fun. The
view wasn't as good as it could have been because of the storm, but it
was worthwhile. I could easily see the arch being a date place for
local couples.

Until later--

We're back from CC25.

Had a great time.

Had no major transit fiascos, even with amazing thunderstorms today. Got
home at a reasonable hour.

Will write more when less sleepy.

I had a fun time at CC25. Congrats to the con chairs and all those who
assisted them and volunteered to work the con. You did good!

I had no trouble with gate security flying out from Newark International.
However, the gate security at the St. Louis airport felt I had a dangerous
item in my backpack -- my toothpaste. You see it was in an large tube. It was
about two thirds gone, but the size of the tube itself was a problem, so they
confiscated it. I thought you only had to have 3 oz. or less of a liquid or
gel itself, but they said it was the size of the contain the substance was
in that counted. So, apparently if you have 1 oz. of liquid in a 10 oz.
container, you can't take it on board a plane at St. Louis, but you can at
Newark
Inter'l.

Now, don't you all feel a lot safer knowing that a terrorist with a large
tube of toothpaste will never make it on a plane boarding in St. Louis?

BTW, apparently, the large pair of shears we got in the CC25 goodie bag were
okay with the St. Louis TSA 'cause they didn't say 'boo' about them being in
my carry-on bag. Go figure.

Toni

Yeah, St. Louis TSA was tougher than Denver as well. When I left Denver, I
carried on my laptop, camera and cam corder. I removed the laptop from the bag
as is standard practice, and left the other items in the backpack. No problem.
In St. Louis, I removed the laptop, per usual, but also had to remove the
camcorder from the bag as well. Also of note, Denver provided quart size
baggies to put my liquids in, a lone tube of chapstick, but St. Louis did not
provide any baggies, so I just put it in the tray with the rest of my items.
Also, the Denver airport is way nicer than the St. Louis airport.

When I arrived at the airport my 4:30 flight was delayed to 4:45 due to weather.
About 5 minutes after I arrived at the gate, to settle in for my 2 hour wait,
they called my name and got me on an earlier flight, so I got home 1.5 hours
early! I didn't even know they had put me on standby for an earlier flight.
Yay for bad weather! United ROCKS! I'm just glad my baggage got on the right
flight as it was only about 30 minutes between checking bags and boarding.

Well, I"m home too....and just in time. When we got on the road fairly early
this morning to first return the rental car, we ran smack into an AMAZING
parking lot on the highway. It must have been a 20-mile backup (we thinkt here
must have been an accident because twop olice cars went by us with sirens).
Fortunately we checked themap (in our copious free time while stopped) and found
an alternative route, as time was running out. But we got o teh airport on time
and everything went smoothly after that. Despite how much fun I had, it's
always good to be home.
It was wonderful seeing you all. The quieter times sitting around talking were
as much fun as the big events. I was very gratified how my competition pieces
went. Everything seemed very well run and on time. The panel I participated in
was terrific (it was great finally meeting you, Dawn!!) and the bead workshop
was really fun. I love teaching people stuff that I see later....Now I cannot
wait til San Jose, but I have a BOATLOAD of work to do to get done what I hope
to get done....
Well, it's late, I'm still at work, and I can't wait til I ahve a minute
tomorrow to start to unpack and maybe download some photos and stasrt
printing....you all looked so amazing.
Yours in costuming, Lisa A.

I-270? Massive accident, saw it on the morning news at 9:00ish. Sorry to
hear you got stuck behind it.

There was an accident on I-70 right near the airport around noonish when
we were getting there, but it wasn't impacting traffic much at all.

Gentlebeings:

For the first time since November, I'm out of my slump. In the last week
I've made three faerie dancer pin dolls, two "Desdemona - Cubed" pin dolls, and
started working once more on "Gaudete", my blue beaded doll. I'm finishing her
off with fabric glitter, then beaded hair; should take me another week, what
with drying times and all. And I've cut out the fabric for "Leeleet", my second
"Neolithic Heraldic Icon". This one will be done in black, with some red for
contrast. Like my first in the series "Opal", she will have three pairs of
wings, but since "Leeleet" is "Queen of the Night", her wings will point
downward instead of skyward. (Note to self: find the article that started it
all and get the proper spelling.)
I'm also considering making a few more pin dolls between now and the Canadian
Doll Artist Association Conference.
Congratulations to those, who managed to make it to CostumeCon, and to those,
who won. Waiting for the list of winners, and for the full reports. Oh, and
I'm forwarding all the CostumeCon news to Jacqui Ward, so she can get the
thrill, if only second hand.
Think that's it; I have to go and glitter a doll.

Peace
Alixandra

I'm still dizzy-tired, as I Did have some travel
issues, resolved nicely by the airline
representatives, but they all took time. I was going
towards the storms. -_-

But I'm home now, and designed quite a bit on the
flights & during the waits. :)

I had trouble with scissors about that size when
flying in the 80s!! They would put the dangerous
items into checked baggage for you, in a little
cardboard box, at the time.

So, oddly enough, I didn't take my scissors in my
carry-on.

Nope. I think the series has a lot of amazing costuming possibilities,
including rooms for interpretation and larger groups so we are seeing a
whole bunch of awards being won by different Trinity Blood cosplayers.

My American flight was delayed a half-hour, so it wasn't too bad. At

With all these tales of traffic jams and flight delays, I don't feel
quite so bad that we left on Monday afternoon. Beautiful sunny day, no
traffic to speak of, and we pulled into Sea-Tac right on schedule. And
ALL our luggage came with us on the SAME FLIGHT!!!

Thanks to - everyone. We had a great time; St. Louis, it seems, is one
of our favorite places to visit, especially when there's a friendly
convention to attend there.

I'm in the middle of getting ready for Norwescon (which starts

We're the ones with the transit fiasco on the way home.

What should have been an easy 9.5 hours drive became a 36-hour ordeal when we
discovered chunks were peeling off one of the rear tires on our borrowed hearse.
After business hours, of course, in the Middle of Nowhere Ohio south of Dayton.

So we spent the night in another Holiday Inn and then limped the 5 miles to the
nearest Wal-Mart tire center, who replaced both back tires and sent us on our
way.

We're fine. The hearse is fine. The owner of the hearse has two new tires. Yay.

Just goes to prove that no matter what hearse we're driving, Something Will
Happen. (Most of our most outrageous stories begin: "So we were driving the
hearse through <insert name of state or major city here>...")
