Maybe they changed to a lower gain antenna to send less signal toward the horizon and more signal "under" the antenna.

Might want to check your antenna. I just got confirmation from the owner
that the repeater is near Hwy 6 and I-45.
It is a "backyard" repeater so must not be too high or full power or
whatever. Didn't get specifics.

The electric carts/wheelchair people were using iDEN for a while but most recently appear to be using a MOTOTRBO repeater on 461.8875.  The frequencies for many of these contractors at IAH (the guys using the non-900 MHz channels) tend to change when the contractor providing the service changes.

I've been aware of this since late last year. One of their repeaters
died a year or two ago, and a second one never came back after Ike.
Most of the EDACS system was in bad shape, with parts in short supply.

Motorola and MA/COM were both approached about a replacement, and
because of the 900MHz frequencies, iDEN and OpenSky were the only
options (nobody makes a P25 system for 900Mhz yet). Continental also
did not want to move onto the ARINC 800MHz iDEN system that is already
at the airport (I believe the carts and wheelchair people are using
this system, although Continental does use ARINC's system at other
airports).

The system is now a 2-site system. They took 5 of the channels and
moved to the Cargo facility just west of JFK, and the rest remain at
the hanger north of Will Clayton. This move was to provide better
coverage to Terminals A and B, as well as to the "dead zone" under the
hanger antennas.

As they have been replacing the radios, the system was running in
EDACS compatible mode, and now that the radios have all been upgraded,
they switched on OpenSky to double the system's capacity.

So why the new system in the first place? Was something wrong with the
existing one? It wasn't that busy anyway. Perhaps it will be a joint-use
system and be encrypted.

We still have a mystery data signal continuously on 407.0125 but I'm
wondering if this may eventually become the fifth frequency for the
(presumed) new FDC Houston system. So far, the new system is only
advertising 407.4125, 408.45, 409.4125 and 410.2125 but the BOP
systems usually have at least 5 frequencies.

The new system must be getting closer to going live. There was a lot
of activity on it today. They must have been testing the new radios
because I logged 132 new users today. They were also testing the
dispatch console alert tones on talkgroup 16.

I logged these talkgroups so far: 16, 32, 48, 64, 80, 112, 160, 176,
224, 240, 304. The audio I've heard is P25.

If anything I believe that public safety shouldn't be able to use voice
inversion. That gives them a false security of encryption. Wrecker drivers have
plenty of reasons to use voice inversion.

I found that 409.4125 today and was in the middle of emailing that when I
thought I should look on RR to see if it was already posted. That's why you
don't see that email.

Wonder if there is one more control channel left to find.

OK, so knowing the restrictions and getting some key data from Trunker, you
do a little math or dice rolling and trial and error, and you're home free!

These Motorola systems have 380 channels for outputs (and another 380 for inputs).  At 12.5 kHz spacing, you can address 4.75 MHz of bandwidth in 380 consecutive channels.  With a base of 408.0 MHz you can only get up to 412.75 with one base/step/offset set.

There is no way to reliably guess this.  You need to run a utility like Unitrunker to get the channel numbers and back into the base/step/offset that works.

For the FDC 7707 system, I left the original 406, 50, 380 in there for Plan
1 and then had 408, 12.5, 380 for 2.
I didn't have the 414.3, 12.5, 748 in there but I thought it had been
working without it.
Seems to me you shouldn't need more than one band plan unless the freqs
cover more than one freq range like the Shell Deer Park system (451 and 488
MHz).

Can you make an educated guess or even better, a determination of the band
plan from looking at the trunking data?
What told you that 407.4125 was Ch 413?
I don't have a good antenna to hook up to my 2004 to watch the downtown UHF
Motorola systems.

If you have one of the band plans programmed correctly, but one or more of
the others programmed wrong, will it still work right?

I noticed that 407.0125 mystery signal also.  Interestingly, 407.0125 is used in numerous Bureau of Prisons trunked systems as listed at RadioReference.com.  I also updated RadioReference.com with a couple more control channels for E726.

Sounds more like Motorola than P25 but won't track either way.

Hadn't heard any usage on the new E726 system it but I might not have it set
up right to track yet.

RadioReference. com received information today that the old
Continental

Airlines EDACS Narrowband system at IAH has been converted to an

OpenSky system using 2-slot TDMA voice. This explains the new

handheld radios I saw at IAH and the inability to track the system

anymore.

that all depends on how many units (radios) you have on that system and where you are using the system as far as voice inversion is concerned i believe that public safety should e the only ones allowed to use it no offense to the wrecker drivers i just don't see a point in anyone else using it

Well, I can only assume that it will be used for fire comms because Cy-Fair doesn't have any channels used for business that I know of. I guess it could be used for training, but they have simplex channels for that....

Why I can't believe? I've used a LTR system and unless they have theres set up in a different way, it's like hell trying to get out on your two way sometimes.

I'm sure he thought it was a good idea at the time.

Guess I'm going to have to add the word "texting" to my email dictionary so
it will stop flagging it.
