Dearly beloved of Hope Church, our family in Christ:

We wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

This Sunday is our Christmas service!  It's going to be a special time to rejoice in and exalt our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ.  Though many are away for college break, we hope the families, singles, remaining college students, and youth can unite at Hope for a great time of worship to God.

The Welcoming Committee (Frank, Mevelle, Leslie, and Daniel) will be away for the next 2 Sundays (12/20, 12/27).
We want to kindly ask that the members of our church step up in our absence to be there for the newcomers!
We all know that it's Christmas season, and it's this time of year (along with Thanksgiving & Easter), that some new faces appear at church!  It's an EXCITING time!

Though Rachel will be helping with a lot of the welcoming responsibilities, she does need help on 12/20 & 12/27 with:
(1) Folding programs
(2) Passing out programs
(3) Passing the offering baskets around

Moreover, there will be NO welcoming room (which means no Daniel or Frank standing in the back waving our hands).  So this is YOUR TIME TO SHINE! :)  Hope has gradually become a more friendly and welcoming church over the year, and we praise God for how you all contribute to that progress.

In conclusion -- In our interaction with newcomers, we challenge you to ask, "HOW can we make them feel welcome, loved, and accepted?"

We personally try to TREAT THEM LIKE FAMILY & FRIEND.  "We love, because He first loved us" (1 John 4:19).  Show care & concern for their well-being (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual), especially in their relationship with God!

Easy way to start -- "Hi, I don't think I've met you before!  How are you?  Looking forward to the holidays?  Do you have any plans?  What's your favorite thing about Christmas?"

(Hebrews 13:1-2 NASB)
1Let love of the brethren continue.  2Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!!!

Soli deo gloria,
Welcoming Committee

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

We are recruiting a medical/dental and general ministry team for a weekend trip February 5-7, 2010.  This team will be lead by Dr. John Kaddis, a ruling elder at Cornerstone Community Presbyterian (PCA) church in Artesia, CA.  The work will be serving an elderly group home in west Tijuana known as Asilo El Refugio.   The resident population of over 100 persons will be served with medical and dental services as well as other personal and facility needs.  There is also a variety of non-medical work to be done from cleaning and maintenance to personal care such as shaving, haircutting, massage, etc.  Most of the residents are there because they can no longer care for themselves and do not have family or their family has refused to take them in. All of the residents delight in receiving attention so there is a wide range of things that can be done to meet these needs from personal beside Bible reading and prayer (some of them speak English) and delivering refreshments to room-bound residents, to singing, drama, and other activities.

Overnight accommodations will be in a nearby Presbyterian church (Mision Monte Horeb) where there will be floor space for your mat and sleeping bag, along with separated rustic bathroom facilities.  Meals will be supplied by church members and/or restaurants.  The cost per person is $153 and this includes all the costs including transportation (we'll be renting van(s), so there will be one or more rendezvous points where we'll meet in SoCal).  The basic schedule will be arrival on Friday night with orientation and set-up.  Saturday will be all day clinic and service.  Sunday morning will be worship and return to California.  Depending on group desires and Sunday commitments, there may be a group departing Saturday evening.

This is a medical short term trip organized under the oversight of Mission to the World  (http://www2.mtw.org/home/site/templates/splash.asp), a ministry of the Presbyterian Church in America, however, it is open (first come, first served) to all believers who desire to serve the Lord Jesus Christ in this way.

If you have questions or desire to participate, please contact me directly.  Please consider announcing and promoting this opportunity within your local church.

Hello Brothers,

This is Sun Kwak. I need a roommate! If someone is looking for a single for
$650/month, that would be a perfect fit. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment
(including loft) with Brian So and Peter Chang at La Jolla Crossroads.
Unfortunately, one of our roommates Peter Chang has to leave after the end of
this quarter, so his single would be vacant. It's a large single (12 ft x 16
ft). Most people use our layout for two doubles but we decided to use it for a
single and it is quite spacious. PLEASE get back at me ASAP at (858)805-5657.
Thanks and God bless.

Much love,

Sun Kwak

Dear Men:
You really need this.  Please come to Men's Small Group on Weds at 7pm at Church.  You'll love it.  We've enjoyed it so much we've gone weekly, and have added another one for this coming Weds, before taking a break until after the New Year.  The discussion is awesome and hilarious.  The book by Os Guiness is very deep, and you don't have to read ahead to join the discussion.  A lot of good discussion that "real" men of God need to know and think/pray about.  Be a "man" and come out if you haven't yet...

Blessings In Him...

Correction.  There is a small charge this year.  I've seen two types of fliers saying two different things.

It's either $2 per wristband per person, which allows you unlimited access to inflatables, train and pony rides, and snow and $2..50 for a picture with Santa, OR it's $3 per wristband for each child and $1 for each adult (because all the adults do is stand in line) and $3 for a picture with Santa.  You may also visit Santa and bring your own camera.  There is food available for purchase.

Have fun!

For those of you who don't frequent Hilltop Park, you may not know about the Winter Wonderland they hold annually.  It's a fantastic event.  There is real snow brought in for sledding, pony rides, mini-firetruck rides, inflatables, and visits with Santa.  It's held this Saturday from 11-3, all for the very affordable price of free.  I think there is food there for purchase, but I couldn't be sure about that.  I never paid much attention.

Dear Ladies,

There are so many things to be thankful for as Thanksgiving is approaching, and I am very thankful for the sisters that Christ has brought into my life.

We will be meeting on Wednesday instead of Friday this week at Shin's residence. ( Most of the people will be out of town on Friday so we moved our date). There will be Men's Bible study at the same time so you are welcome to bring your children to Bunny's place. Her address is 8248 torrey gardens place,
San Diego, ca 92129 and email is mammasantoki@ yahoo.com.

Please read Chapter 10 on silence and solitude, chapter 11 on journaling and sister Jeanny will lead our discussion.

We will have yummy dinner together so please be ready to be fed physically and spiritually.

Much Love,
Yoon
