Description

THERE IS HOPE! This is a support group for those who live mainly in the USA who are homeschooling a "special needs" child, ages preschool to 19.
Whether your child has ADHD, a learning disability (LD), dyslexia, emotional or neurological disorder, bipolar, tourette syndrome, deafness, autism, anxiety disorder, oppositonal defiance disorder, blindness, any type of emotional or physical handicap, etc, then this group is for you.
We all have our own individual needs and problems, yet we all do share a common goal -- to educate our precious children the best way we can. Many Americans are pulling their children out of public schools in droves. Violence, gang activity, unsympathetic teachers, homework overload, drugs and alcohol abuse, and lack of values and morals are just a few of the reasons families are pulling their kids out and teaching them at home. There is no doubt the public school system, for the most part, is failing our kids. Especially our "special needs kids" who are often misunderstood and pushed by the wayside. Of course, there are small groups of schools/teachers who do very well with special needs kids, but they are in the minority. Many churches and synagogues have trouble ministering to special needs kids as well. It has taken much courage for you to take the responsibility of educating your children at home, and you are to be commended. Hang in there! Homeschooling a special needs kid has it's rewards. Grab a cup of coffee and sit down here for a bit, and share your life and experiences with others who are going through the same things. Here you will find encouragement, teaching ideas, info on doctors and meds, friendship, advice, and acceptance. Arguments of any kind, spam, or harrassment will not be permitted. Keep the focus on what is best for the kids.
