Padmabhushan Dr. S.A. Hussein retired as Professor of Philosophy
and Literature from Jamia Milia, New Delhi. His celebrated book,
"The National Culture of India" was printed first in 1956, with a
Foreword by the President of India, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan.

This book underlines the essential unity and continuity of Indian
culture and Indian civilisation. The learned author has explored the
history of India and chronologically surveyed the historical events
that played a great role in shaping the land and its people. He has
shed light on many hitherto untouched aspects of Indian culture.

He has written frankly on the impact of the Aryan influx on
the extant Dravidian civilisation, Islamic influence on India, the
joint Hindustani culture and its impact on medieval India. Thus he
examines the emergence of Urdu, the development of Hindi, the
attitudes to meat eating, the impact of Mahavira and Buddha.
