Founded in 2006, The Henry County Bike Club was formed by local riders to encourage friendship, fun & fuel-efficient fitness. Initially, we began serving Road Bikers. With the beginning of 2008, we will now host local mountain bike rides. Since then our general list of those interested in biking on some level has grown to over 100! We are now Incorporated and volunteering our time & muscle alongside other area organizations to assist in developing safer streets as well as trail systems for use by all. Infrastructure is necessary to encourage more to move towards fitness. Our motto is: “Ride them – don’t drive them!”
The age groups of those who participate in our club range from teenagers to those retired. During the season, we have regular road rides on Monday, Tuesday & Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings with some Sunday afternoons. Various leaders take turns leading the rides. The complete ride schedule is sent to those on our private/group email list.
For 2008, A new initiative will begin within our club entitled: “Mentoring Motion in Martinsville & Beyond”. I’m asking for local cyclists to mentor one new person towards fitness this year with the aid of their bike! Motivation comes from within, but having someone to be accountable is often the missing element.
Watch our cycling groups grow in 2008 & beyond! Stay well & ride on, Susan Perkins
