And I sought for a man among them, that should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before me for the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found none. - Ezekiel 22:30 Hedgemakers ~ Here is another sermon outline from the "Hindrances to Revival" series.
Title: FALSE WORSHIP WILL HINDER REVIVAL Text: 2 Kings 1:1-18 Topic: ninth hindrance to revival Theme: INTRO: Idolatry and false worship will hinder revival. False worship could be summarized as failure to inquire of the Lord. When we fail to inquire of the Lord, our human nature will lead us elsewhere to try to find the answers to our dilemmas. In order for revival to come, the man of God must challenge the false worship. Failure to challenge false worship is a hindrance to revival. Elijah, the Tishbite, was different from the rest of the religious crowd (vv. 7-8) The man of God will be different from the rest of the “clergy.” You ought to be able to recognize a man of God and tell that he is different from the rest of the religious leaders. How does one recognize a man of God? i. submission to god’s leadership, 3a, 15 Elijah responded to the direction of the angel of the Lord (v. 3, 15). ii. habits of life (ministry) iii. pattern of dress, 8 iv. challenge of his message A. He will confront idolatry and false worship (v. 6). B. He will confront pride and haughtiness (vv. 9-12). C. He will express compass when there is humility (vv. 13ff). Humility is expressed by kneeling, beseeching, a servant attitude, and a love of life. These qualities were missing in the first two captains. v. consistency of his message When Elijah finally stood before King Ahaziah, his message was the same as it was the first time. The message was first presented in vv. 3-4. It was rehearsed accurately by the original messengers (v.6). This means that the man of God’s message was clear. The third captain knew exactly what had happened to the first two captains. The message was not distorted. The original message (vvv.3-4) was repeated to the king in verse sixteen. Homemakers ~ Coupled together with trust, there is the building block of respect. Respect for one another in the husband/wife relationship must be mutual. Men and women are different; we have been designed by our Creator to be different. We must learn to respect the differences between the sexes that God has designed in our make-up. We must also learn to respect the differences that come with our personalities and idiosyncracies. Men have the tendency to think that women are dumb because their logical thought processes are not "like a man." Women tend to disrespect men because they cannot express their feelings "like a woman." We are different, but we are not odd or stupid because we are different. Actually, don't you know people in your church, or among your acquaintances who are "different"? They may be different, but they are still one of God's creatures, and God loves them dearly and has purposely designed
all of his creatures. It is true that respect is earned, but it is also true that respect is given. We can respect other people who are not quite like us when we recognize that God loves us, even when we are not like Him.
Heritage Baptist Church ~ The big event for September was the wedding of one of our church members. The groom's father preached at the service, and I did the vows. On October 5th we celebrated the completion of seven years in this church planting work. I taught the SS class; Pastor Starnes preached a timely message in the morning service. We had lunch after the morning service and then we gathered back into the auditorium for an afternoon service. I gave a brief history of the church and Pastor Keith Sweitzer, our reproducing church pastor, challenged our hearts to continue on beyond the seven initial years. It is always good to reflect upon what the Lord has done during the years. The years have gone by quickly. God is faithful, and we want to serve faithfully with him. It is a priviledge to be a servant of the Lord - to go and do as He commands. Over the past several months we memorized Psalm 32. Now we are working on a
portion of Philippians chapter four. It is exciting to memorize Scripture together. The missionary gift wrap on the 24th of October was a good time of fellowship. We usually meet for this in a private home. The women and girls are upstairs packaging the gifts and having a devotional led by one of our ladies. The men and boys meet downstairs with a devotional led by one of our men and then play games and/or fellowship. The ladies join us for a food snack when they are finished packing.
Job Update ~ I was laid off from my job on September 25th. I immediately went to the temporary employment agency, took the computer tests, and re-applied for an updated assignment. I was on an assignment the following week. Then, four weeks later, Frey Lutz called me back to work, so I am back to my old job. Please pray for our assistant pastor, as he also was laid off of his job last month.

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish, foolishness; but unto us which are saved, it is the power of God (1Cor. 1:18).
