Hana is often referred to as Heavenly Hana by the tourists (and real estate agents) but as a resident of Hana, we say the town is ready for some heavenly help! The lack of jobs and outdated education has kept Hana residents underdeveloped. We say, "There's trouble in Paradise. Our residents are drowning in a drug called ICE. Domestic abuse is on the rise. It's not nice!" The local culture has become diseased with the 'Don't let the tourists see' syndrome. We do not need to be an ignorant community lost in the de-evolution of a barbaric humanity. That is not what they mean when they boast that, "Hana still embodies the Aloha of old Hawaii." I hear our native fathers cry, "Heaven Help save our Hana children from the hell of moral decay!"
UPDATE: December 31, 2003
Since we started this group last summer (2003) in an attempt to get attention and help from outside Hana - I have to report that we received assistance "in choke" (that's local slang for) beyond our expectations! There has been a dramatic illegal drug clean up effort and a noticeable improvement in our community life. The drug dealers seem to have left town or feel less comfortable blatantly advertising their wares. We would like to thank first our state Governor Linda Lingle. She responded to our plea directly and immediately! We would also like to thank our state Chief of Narcotics Enforcement and Public Safety, Chief Keith Kamita, whose passion for his work is truly expressed through his actions. We must also thank our own Maui Police and Lieutenant Jeffrey Tanoue (Uncle Bully's Nephew) for his continued dedication in upholding the highest standards of police work to help keep Maui county the safest of all the islands! We thank everyone else who has assisted to springboard our plea for help into a living reality! Evolution and kindness thrives in Hana community today as it should in our home paradise!
Mahalo to all!
