The Hmong Student Intercollegiate Coalition-Brief Summary

Since 2001 Hmong American college students throughout California have diligently worked to establish the Hmong Student Inter-Collegiate Coalition (HSIC). As a strong networking system, HSIC has come together to increase awareness of imperative issues concerning the Hmong American community. These issues include acculturation experiences, generation gap, racial concerns, higher education, and the path of Hmong people in their new settlement as Hmong Americans.

HSIC is a statewide network consisting of student organizations, and includes community members and professionals in an advisory capacity. All events such as meetings, outreach, workshops, trainings, or conferences are organized and executed by students. HSIC is an organization founded by college students and managed and run by college students.

HSIC collectively promotes higher education, mentorship programs, civic participation, and community empowerment to achieve the fullest potential of Hmong Americans. Currently, there are more than 25 campuses involved in HSIC and continuing to grow. Additionally, HSIC is in the process of incorporating as a non-profit organization.

Hmong American students sit at the forefront of our community's critical issues and have the potential to overcome them by serving as a catalyst for social change and responsibility. We hope that you will continue to help foster the goals and visions of the Hmong American community as the next generation steps forward with a people that have long-survived displacement and disempowerment.
