Community Action Team (CAT) members are concerned citizens, like yourself, who want to do more in the fight for equality. You want to see equality and now there is the opportunity to change Virginia.

Goals of Community Action Teams

The goals of CATs are those of Equality Virginia: equality under the law for all Virginians. Your active participation will make this happen when you sign up to join other fair-minded citizens. Equal rights are possible with an informed citizenry taking action.

Our objectives are clear and realistic: We must have the support of public policy makers in order to win equal rights. While groups like the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) are dedicated to lobbying Congress and shaping federal public policy, statewide groups like Equality Virginia take the lead in local communities, speaking out in front of school boards, city councils, county boards, and in the state legislature and before the Governor.

Virginia’s General Assembly, with 40 Senators and 100 House members, exercises powerful influence, for or against equal rights for all throughout the Commonwealth. Equality Virginia CATs are also organized by legislative districts to work most effectively for change.

By participating in CATs, you will join the team of Virginians educating local politicians, championing equal rights and holding those accountable when they attack lesbians, gay men, and bisexual and transgender citizens.
