While everyone is raving about the quality of yesterday's Super
Bowl, was anyone able to make a comparision of the sound delivered
from Cable or Satellite versus OTA Terrestrial Analog or Digital?
I started watching on Comcast Cable at a friend's house and stayed
through the half-time show and then went back to my house for the
second half after the Stones played. Comcast sounded just fine
except for the few origination minor screw ups in the live musical
content.
Something was very wrong with KGO-DT's 7.1/24.1 HDTV OTA sound. The
announcers could barely be heard from the center or front speakers
and the rear ambiance was way too loud with the roar of the crowd.
I double checked my settings and balance, speaker to speaker, tried
another audio source or two and CD music, DVDs, other HDTV Channels
all came out OK, but not KGO-DT OTA. I even tried my
receiver/decoder in auto mode, forced dolby, plain two-channel
stereo, etc. and nothing would straighten out the way it sounded.
The regular channel 7 OTA analog audio was just fine too. I even
called my friend back on the phone to make sure nothing went wrong
with his Comcast Cable audio either.
When "Grey's Anatomy" came on later in the evening, everything
straightened out and the balance front to back all sounded as it
should without changing anything on my ATSC receiver or
Receiver/Decoder/Amplifier.
This is the one case where I can clearly say that Cable seemed to be
a better choice that OTA for the first time ever.
Did anyone else think the OTA audio was off for KGO-DT 7.1/24.1?
Thanks,
Roy
