Re: [Gulf_Coast_Civic_Works] News Release: Katrina Remembered

Scott,
I am in Louisiana now, and I am not sure if the events planned for the anniversary in the 9th ward are going to happen.  Looks like Gustav is projected our way. We'll know by Sunday. My mom and I are planning on hunkering down in Folsom. Ya'll pray that it does not come our way!

KATRINA REMEMBERED:  3rd ANNIVERSARY EVENTS

SAN JOSE, CA:   A San José State student group will plant 1,800 white flags on the lawn surrounding the Smith-Carlos sculpture at noon Thursday, August 28, in remembrance of Hurricane Katrina victims. The storm slammed the Gulf Coast on August 29, 2005.  This 3rd Anniversary event will be lead by SJSU students from the Gulf Coast Civic Works Project, and will include a discussion of the current situation in the Gulf Coast and a report out from the Democratic National Convention in Denver, where 3 SJSU students and Dr. Myers-Lipton have just returned from.

On Sunday, August 31st at 3 pm, the Gulf Coast Civic Works Project student leaders, along with San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP, the Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley, and Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County, will host a community forum featuring California Assemblywoman Sally Lieber and Katrina survivors at 3 p.m. Sunday, August 31, on the second floor of King Library (see attached flier).
