Description
The Great Lakes Arts Network (Arts Network) enhances and supports arts and culture in the Great Lakes area.
The purpose of the network is to make arts and cultural opportunities accessible and integrated with everyday life. To promote involvement and inclusion in arts and cultural development by the whole Great Lakes community.
The Arts Network involves representatives from a broad range of cultural organisations and practitioners including visual and performing artists, writers, theatre groups, musicians, teachers, cultural venues, craft workers and community groups. The Arts Network is a committee of Great Lakes Council.
The roles of the Arts Network are to:
• Facilitate, auspice, train, develop and advise arts and cultural project development
• Consult and engage the wider community to identify community cultural needs
• Represent and advocate for the diverse interests of Great Lakes arts and cultural sector
• Support and promote existing arts and cultural initiatives
• Support new and emerging arts and cultural groups and initiatives
• Advise Council on Great Lakes arts and cultural development issues and initiatives
• Network with local, regional and state arts and cultural resource organisations to increase access to arts development opportunities.
• Facilitate opportunities to build the capacity of local arts and cultural sector
• Support the development and implementation of a Great Lakes Council Cultural Plan
• Source and apply for available grants and funding to enable the role of the committee to be achieved

The Great Lakes Community Network meeting scheduled for 28 May has been cancelled. The next meeting therefore will be the one scheduled for 30 July 2009.
