Star IQ - Tuesday, December 15 Although optimism prevails with the Moon in expansive Sagittarius, we may sense that an emotional cycle is ending as we approach tomorrow's New Moon. Still, there is magic in the air, but we must make something happen or the opportunity will pass us by. Luckily, a Mercury-Mars connection enables us to put our words into action. Additionally, the Sun's supportive sextile to spiritual Neptune heightens our intuitions and puts us in touch with our dreams.
The day of Mars...also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr. Tuesday is ruled by Mars, whose Magickal influences are: Passion, courage, aggression, and protection. Tuesday comes under the influence of Mars, the planet associated with vitality, passion, ambition, and raw, unabashed power. Mars energy makes the mind acute, and the body restless; therefore, on Tuesday we are likely to exert ourselves physically and take action to achieve goals. This day is dynamic and high-spirited, and the prevailing energies may include carelessness and destructiveness as well, so it is good to be cautious---especially while traveling. Tuesday is the proper day of the week to perform rituals involving courage, physical strength, revenge, surgery, and the breaking of negative spells.
Tiw was a God of athletics, combat, and law. Consider meals to improve physical well-being, encourage justice, or increase strength and strategy.
Today's Magickal Influences ~ Destination, War, Courage, Surgery, Physical Strength

Pre-Solstice Ritual Bath
During the Winter Solstice, we often place emphasis on celebrating and sharing this joyous, but often difficult, holiday. For Witches, however, now may also serve as a time to attune to a quiet, internal spirituality. To begin to do so (with the solstice less than ten days away now), prepare a ritual bath with oils of rosemary, pine, and orange. Add a touch of patchouli for grounding. Light gold and green candles, and immerse yourself in watery solitude to refresh your weary holiday spirit. Meditate on the winter goddess and her lesson of stillness. Find the cool and clean space she offers, free of clutter and activity. It is the season for centering and grounding ourselves, and for defining who we really are. After the bath, take your journal and write down your goals by candlelight. Contemplate the coming rebirth, and identify which direction you wish to channel your energy and focus your intentions.By: Karri Allrich

Persephone is gone beneath the ground Demeter roams the earth in search of her. Mother turns Crone, grass and leaves turn sere All that was fertile green, now black and brown.
Birds harvest hanging, wrinkled fruit at last Heedless of mother's grief, in Hade's bed Persephone, on pomegranates fed, Ignores Demeter, moaning in the blast.
'Twas ever thus, maiden leaves mother's side Her role revolving as all beings must Maidenhood gone, ground to powdered dust That falls throughout the Winter, far and wide.
Within the frozen soil all the while, Life waits, asleep, for Spring to rise and smile.

Greetings! Our theme is Mastery.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I know that mastery leads to the highest good for all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
About Todays Affirmation When we live in the consciousness of mastery, we provide energy that creates the highest good for all. Intention is the key to living in mastery, which is the consciousness in which doubt and fear cannot exist. So with this generic, all-purpose high intention sitting as an umbrella over all other statements of intention, we breathe in the energy of our over-arching intention for mastery. We walk through life protected by this umbrella.
About Your Process As you move through the month of December, notice how your path is guiding and leading you. Notice what is leading you, how you are being led, and where you are going. Know that you are learning to embody mastery (rather than wondering if or hoping that maybe someday ). You choose the laboratory for learning: home, work, a specific relationship, money, personal harmony, etc. When you are in the consciousness of mastery in familiar places you find it easier to be in mastery in unfamiliar places.
"Be Always Ecstatic. Be Filled With A Divine Intoxication" ~ Henry Miller
Today's Goddess:FAUNA
Faunalia (Rome)
Themes: Fertility; Nature; Divination
Symbols: All Forest Items.
About Fauna: In Roman mythology, Fauna is the consort to Faunus, whom this date venerates.
With Faunus, she protects the woodlands and plants that live there. While her role in stories seems
minor, Fauna's power lives on in botanical terminology, her name having been given to vegetation.
To Do Today: Faunus was a woodland god like Pan, who sends messages through the forests for those who
know nature's omens and signs. If at all possible, go to a natural location today (even a park or a quiet tree
in your neighborhood will do) with a small libation of wine or milk, both of which are customary. Pour this on
the ground, focusing your intention to learn more about nature's messages to us. Then spend at least twenty
minutes observing. Take notes as you do. Do the tree's leaves seem to talk? Do they move in a specific way?
Are birds taking flight? Where do they go? Do they drop any feathers on the ground? Do any animals appear
unexpectedly? If so, what does the creature do, and where does it go? All of these things, and other similar
experiences, can carry a sign meant to help you today or in the days ahead. To interpret what you see, consult
any good folklore or superstition collection, like the Victorian Grimore, or another book, Futuretelling, which
discusses natural harbingers.

Heartwings Love Notes 393 Writing Christmas Cards
Heartwings says, "Writing Christmas cards can be a walk down memory lane."
As I contemplate the Christmas card list I sigh. As it is for many of us with an already busy holiday schedule, finding the time to write cards presents a problem. Yet the joy of writing them far outweighs any difficulty they might present. As I look forward to the cards I receive, so also I happily anticipate sending mine out.
I remember one year I didn't have time to write my Christmas cards. It was after New Years' Day before they were finally mailed. By then I had received cards from many people so I used those to make my list. That year I also pruned my list significantly. I had learned to whom not to send cards because they had only sent one back when they had received one from me.
However there are always those people to whom I send cards who do not necessarily send them to me. Elderly relatives, people we stay in touch with who for whatever reason do not send them, and others who might send only internet cards may receive one from me simply because I am thinking of them with love.
Sometimes along with our cards we send out a Christmas letter detailing the events of the year just passed. This year we decided not to because not much has changed. A list of the pictures Stephen has created since '08 or the fact that I had Lyme disease this fall might not be considered especially newsworthy.
I enjoy the opportunity to think warmly about the person to whom I am writing. With some this is my only contact with them all year, yet once they were a vital part of our lives. As I think of them the happiness of that time sings still in my heart. This is what I like best about writing the cards, and too this is the real reason that year after year I continue do it.
May you enjoy the cards you send as well as those you receive.
Power is not revealed by striking hard or often, but by striking true. ~Honore de Balzac
Nostradamus Divination Ritual Incense of the day: Musk
Today is the birthday of the prophet Nostradamus. In honor of him, perform a divination. Place a dark cloth on a table. Have a finger bowl of water on the table. Get out your favorite divination tool. Light a few candles, and turn out the lights. Rinse your fingers in the bowl, and say: I wash myself of all confusion and distractions. I cleanse myself from selfishness. I come with pure intent.
Hold your divination tool over one of the candles, saying: O spirit of prophecy, today grant me clear vision. Let me see clearly through the veils. Give me strength to accept the truth and wisdom to make choices based on my vision. Perform your divination. At last hold your divination tool over a candle, and say: Thanks, O spirit, for the insights you have given.
May the love of the Goddess be ever in your heart...

Crones Corner -Decorating For Yule
Whether your holiday decor is rustic or romantic, use natural ingredients and you can never be wrong. Instead of gingerbread people try gingerbread hearts hanging in the kitchen for a "different" touch. To keep the season well past the Holidays, use spruce, rosemary, juniper and ivy for your "greens".
These choices keep their fragrance and beauty for a long time.
Simple cranberry garlands around chandeliers reflect ruby, and crimson highlights each time the lights are turned on. Tuck sprigs of pine around paintings and garlands across windows and doorways.
It is doesn't snow for Christmas wherever you live you can create your own snow for windows and mirrors: 1/2 cup lukewarm water, 1/2 cup plus about 2 slightly rounded tbs. mild soap flakes or granules, transparent tape, assorted doilies or homemade snowflake designs.
A mixing bowl, whisk, and small sponge. In a bowl, combine the water and soap flakes. Stir to dissolve, when whip with a whisk until the mixture looks like stiff meringue and holds its shape. An electric mixer can also be used. If making your own snowflakes, fold heavy paper in fourths, Fold in half again to make a pie-shaped wedge, and use sharp scissors and cut as you like. Unfold and flatten out and viola - a beautiful snowflake -
Tape a doily or your own snowflake to a window or mirror and use the sponge to dab the whipped snow over the perforations. Remove the stencil immediately and allow the design to dry. To remove, simply wipe off with window cleaner and a soft cloth.
Kids getting a bit antsy as the big day approaches or just looking for a very simple, yet wonderful accent that can be used as a tree ornament, a napkin ring, or party favor - your imagination is the limit with this totally simple craft: wide black marker pen, star cookie cutter, shirt cardboard, wax paper, craft glue, assorted glitter, transparent fishing line or thin ribbon, staples, and scissors With a marker pen, mark around the cookie cutter star to make a template on the cardboard. Cover each board with wax paper, stapling it into place. Using the bottle of glue trace the star shapes onto the wax paper with thick, wide lines of glue.
Using one color glitter immediately sprinkle a lavish amount of glitter onto each star so it is completely
covered. Allow to dry for one day or overnight. Shake off the excess glitter. Cut away the excess wax paper, then carefully peel the glitter star away from the backing. Use as ornaments, package decorations, etc. Use fishing line or thin ribbon to hang the stars.
Don't forget to wish on a star this Solstice Eve and let the glow from these heavenly ornaments light up your Yuletide.

We turn not older with years , but newer every day ~Emily Dickinson
It is not easy to become wise. All the great traditions tell us that. Whether it be Buddhism or Christianity,
yoga or tantra, these spiritual paths tell us that to gain wisdom, we must discipline ourselves. We must
struggle to reach understanding. And along the way, we will find ourselves tested in ways we never imagined.
Many are those who give up on the path to wisdom. They wish to be wise, but they wish even more to be comfortable.
No one needs to be ashamed of giving up the search for wisdom, or of taking a break in the struggle. Inner
transformation is difficult, and often painful. And there is no way to predict who will have the courage and the
tenacity to keep struggling to achieve wisdom. It is no use to look at others, whether in envy or in pride, for their
struggles are their own. One who seems wise at twenty may still be just that wise at sixty. One who seems wise
at sixty may become rigid and brittle by seventy. We can only judge ourselves as we struggle to find our own path
to wisdom.

Heartwings Love Notes: 341 Junk Mail dilemma Solved
Heartwings says: "You can save trees and time now and later too."
Are you feeling inundated with catalogues? I was. Most were from merchants from whom I have never bought and never will. At first thinking the catalogues would stop if I didn't buy from them, I recycled them right away. That didn't work. Then I tried refusing them at the post office. Still they came. Now I have figured out what to do and I have begun to reduce my junk mail.
It is quite simple and takes only moments. As soon as any unwanted catalogue arrives I tear off its back cover making sure the company telephone number is on that page or else writing it there.I recycle the rest, and as soon as is convenient, I call the 800 number to ask to be taken off their mailing list. Then I put the page in a file folder so I will know not to call again.
Every response I have had has been polite. Only once did someone ask why and I told the truth: I get too many catalogues. If you are put on hold until you can speak to a customer representative, you can utilize the speakerphone button most phones have and do what you like until someone actually comes on the line. Listening to muzak is a small price to pay to eliminate more nuisance mail.
I am glad to reduce my junk mail, and I'll enjoy more those few catalogues I still wish to receive. While it takes a few more minutes extra to make the call than to just pitch the offending item, I really don't mind. The satisfaction I get from doing something about my junk mail dilemma as well as if only in a small way for the planet is worth the trouble of doing it.
May you discover a way to easily reduce or eliminate what bothers you.
Blessings and Best Regards, Tasha Halpert

About Bamya: In Zoroastrian tradition, this Goddess guides the sun god Mithra's vehicle through
the sky. Mor important, as the Goddess of twilight, her presence signals the beginning of today's festival.
To Do Today: As the sun sets in Iran today, a huge bonfire will be ignited near a water source to
symbolize the power of light to overcome darkness and the power of good to overcome evil. For us
this means accepting our power and potential to overcome any obstacles that life may bring in any season.
Too often our lives seem overwhelmed with obligations, and we find ourselves feeling lost in the seething
sea of humanity. Bamya's counsel today is to learn how to swim in that sea by recognizing the ability of one
person to truly make a difference - be it within yourself, in the life of another, in a specific situation, or in
the world.
At sunset today, light an orange candle (or another one the color of twilight) and greet Bamya with this prayer.
Lady of gentle twilight, I welcome you. As the sun
sets on this day, let things from the past that I no
longer need to bear also fade away. Teach me to
leave them behind as easily as you leave behind
the daylight. As darkness falls, grant rest to my
unsettled spirit so that I can rise tomorrow
renewed and whole. Bamya be with me.
So Mote it Be.

StarIQ -Friday, December 11
Today's airy Libra Moon harmonizes with five planets, encouraging us to be easygoing, even if we must respond to unexpected events. But rational Mercury forms an uncomfortable semisquare with confusing Neptune, enabling us to misunderstand what's happening if we ignore the facts. Although positive thinking can help, we should separate our dreams from reality. The Moon's entry into intense Scorpio at 11:31 pm EST quickly snaps us back to the real world.
"If wrinkles must be written upon our brow, let them not be written upon the heart; the spirit should not grow old."
Daily Aromatherapy
Make aromatic room fresheners for Christmas presents. These are very easy and can be personalized by using different scents.
Here is one I use as a good smelling antiseptic spray to use around the house. I spray it on doorknobs and light switches to kill germs. To a 2 oz bottle with a spritzer top add 1 tablespoon of alcohol (I use vodka) Add 10 drops of eucalyptus oil, 10 drops of lavender oil, 5 drops of rosemary oil, and 5 drops of tea tree oil. Fill the rest of the bottle with water. Shake and spray.
In four days the festival starts, when we assemble
to call down snow in abundance.
~Pueblo Dawn Call To Winter Feast
Throughout the world, the darkest time is also the time of the greatest celebration. One reason is simple:
busy people, bustling about to gather enough food to survive through the winter, have less time to tell stories
and to feast and to sing. But there is another reason that is not so obvious: the belief that the activities of human
beings during the winter somehow empower the earth to keep turning on its axis, progressing slowly toward the
new seasons yet to come.
Stories have traditionally been vital in this quest for continued order in the universe. Each winter, people would gather
to hear the old myths recited by the hearth-fire. This was the children's school, the time to learn the rules by which
humankind was expected to live. It was a continuing education program for adults, too, who each year heard the
familiar stories anew, with deeper meaning. But the stories did more than just educate people. In a mysterious
and magickal way, they also linked humans to the cosmos. Just as the sun set at the anticipated time, so we were
to tell the right story on the right night. We thus were bound to the cycle of the seasons in a deep and meaningful way.

You must remember in your heart that a tree is no less alive than you are.
But people do not understand that. They have forgotten the source of power.
They have forgotten that power comes from woman, from this great Mother Earth.
You understand in your heart and you protect her, but to protect her is to protect yourself.

Goddess of The Day: TONATZIN
Tonatzin (Mexico)
Themes: Religious Devotion; Blessing
Symbols: Soil; Light
About Tonatzin: An ancient mother figure who nurtures people and all that dwells in the land, Tonatzin is
the life and light of the world. Today she joins our festivals as the originator of this holiday.
To Do Today: Juan Diego, an Indian convert, was surprised when this goddess appeared to him in 1531 in an
ancient site of pagan worship and requested that the temple be rebuilt. Juan Diego believed this apparition was
Mary, and therefore he did as she commanded. To this day, people come here at this time of the year for the
Gddess's blessing.
While most of us cannot travel to Mexico just to implore Tonatzin, there is nothing that says we can't honor and
invoke her at home. Light a candle or lamp and place before it a potted plant or bowl of soil. This configuration
represents Tonatzin's presence in your home throughout that day. From here she can illuminate the shadows and
generate the light of hope and joy for all those who live there.
Carry a seed and some soil wrapped in a green cloth with you today. Name the seed after any earth quality you
want to develop in your life, such as strong foundations or emotional stability. When you get home, put the seed
and soil in a planter or your garden. Tonatzin's magick is there to manifest growth for the seed and your spirit!

Crone's Corner-THE RITUAL OF CANDLE-LIGHTING
.
Light a different color candle each day, and bring more good into your life. This is a powerful
medium that you can use in the creative process of lighting your thinkingwhich means lighting
your life. This ancient practice results in total self-empowerment. In our increasingly mechanistic
world, a more spiritual and personal approach is needed by us all. Candle-lighting helps you fashion
a personal approach with beauty, warmth, and radiance.
Ancient and modern wisdom teaches that what you think about happens: energy always follow
thought. The wise now, as then, use this most simple of tools, the candle, to visualize and
manifestvia affirmation, meditation, or prayernew conditions into their lives or to snuff out the old and
unwanted thinking patterns and their undesirable consequences.
As you light the appropriately colored candle for a certain goal or purpose, you begin the journey of lighting, and therefore experiencing,
your life as you desire it to be. You can think or speak aloud your Meditation via the candle flame or write your wish on a piece of paper placed beneath the candle.
Remember that a burning candle should never be unattended, especially in the presence of children or pets.

Meditation: I am employed, and am always employed, by that Self of me that is greater than I am. I do not come into or fall out of its service; I am always there.
It expresses as me and serves up continuously perfect opportunities, stimulating responsibilities, delightful conditions, and generous compensation. I am happy,
taking charge, taken care of, and fulfilled. So it is!

StarIQ - Thursday, December 10
Yesterday's heavy energy is gradually replaced by an easier vibe today as a fiery Sun-Mars trine indicates that our will is harmoniously expressed by what we do. Although Mars in demonstrative Leo doesn't turn retrograde until December 20, it barely moves forward in the next ten days, suggesting that long-term goals may be set aside for a while. Meanwhile, the socially astute Libra Moon encourages us to help others before attending to our own needs.
I felt immanently qualified ...it didn't even occur to me that the Universe had other plans.
Daily Aromatherapy-Peppermint vs. Spearmint
Peppermint can sometimes over power a blend. Use Spearmint in your blend when you want a fragrance that's less harsh. The therapeutic properties are just about the same and I think Spearmint is a fresher scent
In Greece, this was the period called the halcyon days - the weeks before and after the winter solstice.
The name comes from that of an ancient heroine, Halcyone, who loved a fisherman named Ceyx. A dream
told her that her beloved had died at sea, and so she stood thereafter by the seashore, finally catching her
lover's body as it washed to shore.
Transported by grief and unquenchable longing, Halcyone burst out of human form into the shape of the first
kingfisher, and her dead mate magically revived and joined her in the same shape. So kindly did the Greek
divinities look on this loyal love that they blessed the couple. Now, when the kingfisher is ready to lay its eggs,
a calm descends on the sea until they hatch. These are the halcyon days, a term used of any period of calm and peace.

Symbols: Snow; Wind (cold or northerly); White Crystals or Clothing
About Skadi: In Northern tradition, Skadi is the spirit of the north wind, who is blowing powerfully
over the earth now. She is the goddess of winter and wears white fur, crystal armor, and a bow and arrow for hunting.
Hers is the power of communication - of announcing new insights and perceptions as they awaken within.
To Do Today: In this festival, which dates back two thousand years, farmers around the country take out
Birchwood horns today and blow them to scare away evil influences and announce Skadi's presence. To
encourage her communicative powers in your own life, stand outside and breathe deeply of a cool, northerly
wind today, letting the air empower your speech. Or, carry a pumice stone wrapped in white cloth with you
throughout the day (if you can't find one, cut out a white paper snowflake instead and write Skadi's name on it).
This keeps the goddess with you in all your discourse.
At home, find a horn (perhaps a kazoo or noisemaker). Follow the Dutch custom of blowing this once in all
four cardinal directions to send protection throughout your living space. Afterward put four white decorations
(candles, stones) close to the directional points. This welcomes Skadi's insight and open discussions therein.

Crone's Corner-REINDEER
Santa's reindeer most probably evolved from Herne, the Celtic Horned God. Eight reindeer pull Santa's sleigh, representative of the eight solar Sabbats. In British lore, the stag is one of the five oldest and wisest animals in the world, embodying dignity, power and integrity. From their late Autumn dramatic rutting displays, stags represented strength, sexuality and fertility. As evidenced by multiple prehistoric excavations of stag antler ritual costumes, the wearing of stag antlers in folk dance recreated the sacred male shaman figure called Lord of the Wild Hunt, Cernunnos, or Herne the Hunter, among others--he who travels between worlds, escorting animal spirits to the afterlife and sparking wisdom and fertility in this world. Likewise, the stag's branching antlers echo the growth of vegetation. In America, the stag represents male ideals: the ability to "walk one's talk," and powerfully, peacefully blend stewardship and care of the tribe with sexual and spiritual integrity.
In Northern European myth, the Mother Goddess lives in a cave, gives birth to the sun child, and can shape shift into a white hind, or doe. Therefore, the white hind was magical, to be protected and never hunted. In myth, graceful running women of the forest--who were actually magical white hinds--brought instant old age or death to hunters who chased them.
To the Celts, all deer were especially symbolic of nurturing, gentle and loving femaleness. White deer hide was used to make tribal women's clothing. White deer called "faery cattle" were commonly believed to offer milk to fairies. In Britain amongst the Druids, some men experienced life-transforming epiphanies from spiritual visions or visitations by white hinds, balancing and healing their inner feminine energy. In Europe white hinds truly exist, and are many shades of warm white cream-colours, with pale lashes--otherworldly in their peaceful and modest behaviour. To many Native American tribes, deer are models of the graceful and patient mother who exhibits unconditional love and healthy, integrated female energy.

Daily Aromatherapy-Fireplace Logs
. When making Holiday logs use 1 drop of essential oil per log and only one log per fire. After applying the essential oil to the log be sure to let it sit for enough time that the essential oil soaks through the log.
Some choices are Sandalwood, Frankincense, Myrrh, Cypress, and Cedarwood.
Every religion has an ethical standard, a set of rules on which people's behaviors is judged. And every
religion, including the religions of the goddess, speaks of some kind of punishment for wrongdoing. Yet,
when we look around, how often we see selfish and uncaring people richly rewarded for their actions!
There is the victimizing boss who moves up the corporate ladder. There is the selfish lover who receives
pleasure while denying it. There is the uncaring parent who enjoys life at the expense of children. Why
are these people not punished?
This problem of evil is one of the great philosophical and religious questions humanity faces. We face it time
after time, generation after generation, culture after culture. And no definite answer is ever reached. In the
religious of the goddess, we find images of punishment of evildoers, as well as rules for living in harmony
with her wishes. If we cannot settle the problem of evil, we can try to activate the good within ourselves.

GrannyMoon Says Today Is:Tiu's Day
The day of Mars...also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr.

Light A Candle Today!
In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. One single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention.

Goddess of the Day -NARU KAMI
Hari Kuyo (Japan)
Themes: Offerings; Excellence; Arts
Symbols: Needles; Thunder and Lightning; Trees
About Naru Kami: In Japan this Goddess embodies the odd combination of weather magick and artistic
inspiration. Perhaps this is how we come by the phrase "Struck by lightning" to describe a flash of creativity.
In local tradition, any place hit by lightning is thereafter sacred to Naru Kami. She is also the protectress of trees.
To Do Today: Participants in this festival, known as the Mass for Broken Needles, honor the ancient art of
sewing by bringing broken or bent needles into temples and later consigning them to the sea with thankfulness.
We can translate this observance into a blessing for any creative tool, be it a paintbrush, clay, a musical instrument,
or even a computer! Take the item and wrap it in green paper (which comes from the goddess's sacred trees).
Leave it on your altar or in your work-room for the day so Naru Kami can fill it with her inspiring energy.
For those, who sew, crochet, or knit, definitely take out your needles today and leave them in a special spot with an
offering for the Goddess, cakes or tofu being customary. At the end of the day, take these up and use them in your
craft to honor Naru Kami and commemorate this holiday with your skills.

Dearest mother, I come to you with greatest trust.
The many wonders brought on by your intercession
fill me with hope that you, Mother of Mercy, will hear my prayer.
O sweetest mother, O most merciful star of the sea,
do not let me go from here without your answer.
Remember, merciful virgin, that those who come to you
full of trust have never been forsaken by you. Should I
be the first one to go away unheard by you?
No, no, O good mother, may you help me in my
distress and comfort me in my suffering.
~Prayer at Cathedral of Our Lady Maastricht, Holland
Today is an especially significant day in the Mariological calendar of the Catholic Church, for it is the feast
of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary. In the nineteenth centruy, a new doctrine was established
by the church: that Mary had been born without original sin. Some 1,500 years previously, an African bishop
named Augustine had articulated the idea that we are born with our souls already stained with sin, so that
even before we take our first breath, our very humanity makes us sinful. Thus a baby who died at birth would
be condemned to hell - although this cruel doctrine was later mitigated so that the innocent babes would reside
instead in limbo, which is a kind of hell minus the flames.
But how could the blessed mother of god be so stained? To wriggle out of the obvious theological difficulties,
the church then backdated holiness to Mary's very birth, declaring her the only human being ever born without
original sin. Those who grow up in the shadow of this sad doctrine must fight constantly not to believe that our
humanity alone curses us. As creations of the divine universe, how can we be so hopelessly defective? We are,
like the virgin mother, born without sin.

Goddess of The Day - ISTUSTAYA
Mevlana (Turkey)
Themes: Divination; Communication (with the Divine); Destiny
Symbols: Sacred Dance; Circles; Mirror; Thread
About Istustaya: In Anatolia this Goddess rules over all matters of fate and is an adept diviner, often using a
mirror for descrying so she can share insights into our future. Besides this, she personally weaves the thread
of life for each person born, patterning her or his destiny.
To Do Today: The Mevlana is celebrated by the Whirling Dervishes in Turkey as a ritual dance through which
the devout attain oneness with the divine, often for the purpose of fortune-telling. The festival includes chanting
while dancers twirl around, effectively becoming the center of a magickal circle formed by their skirts. So, if you
hold a ritual today, use yarn or thread to mark the sacred space, with a mirror and your preferred divinatory tool
on the altar to honor Istustaya. Dance clockwise around your circle, or your home, before attempting any
divinatory effort. This draws the Goddess's vision into your spirit.
If you want to try mirror descrying specifically to venerate Istustaya, sit somewhere comfortable with a
candle behind the mirror. Dab a little sandalwood oil on the surface, rubbing it clockwise. Let your eyes
unfocus and wait and see what images appear in the reflected light and oil. These may be symbolic or
literal in nature. A dream interpretation guide may help you in figuring out the meaning.

December 4 is feast day for Pallas Athena, Chango, and St. Barbara. All three of these are associated with warriors and offer protection against lightning. This protection can be extended to include protection from fire, explosions, and sudden deaths of all sorts, including on the battlefield. The Greek goddess Athena is the patroness of not simply war but also of strategy. Like her Roman counterpart, Minerva, she is also associated with wisdom and knowledge. St. Barbara was a girl who was locked away in a tower by her father because of her extreme beauty. Her father was struck down by lightning after having her beheaded for her spiritual beliefs, whereas Athena sprang forth from her own father's head after he tried to kill her by swallowing her mother, Metis. On the other hand, Chango is the playboy of the Orishas and a man of passion and power, war, and dance. Like Athena's father Zeus, he controls lightning and thunder.
Set up a feast in honor of these protectorsincluding olives for Athena, cornbread, okra, bananas, and apples for Chango, and a chalice of dry, Red wine or juice for St. Barbara. Invoke your preferred deities, and invite them to dine with you. Make up a separate plate and chalice for them and place it across the table from you before you eat. As you sit there, express your anger and your concerns with the world and its future. Ask the protectors for their strength, protection, and guidance on the occasion of their feast day.~Lady MoonDance

Friday, December 4
Financial and emotional insecurities lurk at the edges of our awareness today, yet we waste energy by attempting to avoid our fears. Today's sensitive Cancer Moon forms a series of uneasy quincunxes that highlight the differences between our thoughts and our feelings. Meanwhile sweet Venus sextiles constrictive Saturn, reminding us that true satisfaction is worth the wait, even if it feels as if we don't have as much as we need in the present moment.
After the African Goddess were carried across the Atlantic in the hearts of their worshippers and in the holds
of slave ships, they found a new life on this side of the ocean. In Brazil, Haiti, Cuba, and other areas of the New
World, they joined with indigenous Goddesses and spiritual traditions to form new, vital, and energetic religions.
Many of these religions place a special emphasis on the spirituality of dance. In Haitian voudoun. for instance,
a Goddess makes her appearance in this world by taking on the body of a devotee, who dances the divinity's
special dance. Such dance is an ecstatic communion between the world of the senses and that of the spirit.
Spirituality need not be a disembodied experience. We can worship with our whole selves when we invoke the
Goddess through dance.

Goddess of The Day - NINA Pan-American Health Day (United States)
About Nina: A very ancient Mother Goddess figure in Mesopotamia, Nina has many powers, including healing, herb magick, meditation, dream interpretation, and helping civilization along when needed. Today we will be focusing on her healthful attributes and knowledge of herbs to improve well-being for the winter months.
To Do Today: Pan-American Health Day focuses on worldwide cooperation in the public heath field. On the home front, do everything possible to make your home and body healthy and strong. Beginning in your living space, wash the floors using sage water, and burn a sage smudge stick. This herb decreases germ infestation and is magickally aligned with Nina's energy. As you go through your home, carry a small bell and add this incantation:
Nina, come and make us well; banish sickness with the ringing of this bell.
Ring the bell in each room at the end of the incantation. In many religious traditions, bells are considered to scare away the evil influences that cause sickness.
To overcome a troublesome malady, put a picture of one of Nina's sacred animals under your pillow to invoke a healing dream. This tradition is very old and sometimes results in healthful energy being conveyed through your dream, or in a dream that shows you what to do for a cure. )0(

Not being known doesn't stop the truth from being true. ~Richard Bach
Pagan Studies -Travel Divination
If there is an upcoming trip that you feel uneasy about, perform this simple divination using a bowl of water and a stone. When you are alone, place the bowl of water on a table and sit in front of it. Ask whether you should undertake the journey. Be very specific in your wording. Meditate for a few minutes, and request your spirit guides to be present with you. Drop the stone into the bowl of water, and pay keen attention to the ripples created. An even number of ripples means the answer to your query is yes. An odd number indicates no. Thank your spirit guides, and pour the water down the sink. Wash the stone, and store it in a pouch. ~ S. GrannyMoon's Morning Feast
The mighty oak tree was once a little nut that stood its ground."
Star IQ - John Levine
Wednesday, December 2
Today's restless Gemini Full Moon at 2:30 am EST increases the tension between our immediate needs and our long-term goals when illuminated by the Sun in far-reaching Sagittarius. Lovely Venus, newly arrived in Sagittarius, joins the Sun and philosophical Mercury to inspire us to extend our thinking beyond our usual limitations. Meanwhile, we don't seem to be able to let go of our attachment to the busyness that has taken over our daily lives
Goddess, allow me to see clarity in a way that I can receive.
Daily Aromatherapy Tip - Christmas Tree Spray
Help your tree smell like it was just cut.Make a mixture of 1 cup water with 6 drops of essential oil of Pine. Use this to spray the tree. Or put a few drops of Pine on a cloth
for it fades, and evil cannot prevail against her.
She reaches from one end of the earth to the other,
and Wisdom orders all things well.
~Wisdom, 8
In some of the Wisdom scriptures, this feminine figure resembles the Hindu goddess Kali, for she transcends all
duality and offers a vision of a new, unified cosmos. We find the same intuition expressed in contemporary chaos
theory. Where once the word chaos described an irredeemably disordered state, it has now been learned that
disorder yearns toward order just as significantly as order breaks down inevitably into disorder. The whole system,
order to disorder to order to disorder - is called chaos.
Wisdom is an image of chaotic disorder, a figure who is able to bring together the apparent opposites of life and to
reconcile them into a new order. As long as we cling to one pole of a duality, we are forced constantly into confrontation
with the other pole. By removing the two poles, by forging a unity between them, we are able to move beyond our fears
and into a new, crystalline freedom.

The line of the horizon was clear and hard against the sky, and in one particular quarter it showed black against a silvery climbing phosphorescence that grew and grew. At last, over the rim of the waiting earth the moon lifted with slow majesty till it swung clear of the horizon and rode off, free of moorings; - Grahame, "The Wind in the Willows." ...

Another night, and thou among The spheres of heaven shalt cease to shine, All rayless in the glittering throng Whose lustre late was quenched in thine. Yet soon a new and tender light From out thy darkened orb shall beam, And broaden till it shines all night On glistening dew and glimmering stream.

GrannyMoon Says Today Is:Tiu's Day
The day of Mars...also Ares, Tiwaz, Tiw (from whom it is named), Tuisco, and Tyr.

December Stones and Flowers
Birthstones-turquoise, blue zircon, blue topaz
Turquoise - Turquoise is a blue, green or a bluish green hydrous aluminum phosphate that is colored by copper. The name means "Turkish stone" so named as the trade route that brought it to Europe originally came through Turkey. Legends & Lore: Turquoise has been used for a long time, since before 4000 BC; Turquoise is believed to give the wearer clarity, calm and the ability to start something new. It also brings spoils to the warrior, animals to the hunter, and happiness and good fortune to all.
Blue Zircon - Blue zircon should be gently cleaned and abrasives should be avoided. Blue zircon is mined in Kampuchea,
Sri Lanka and Burma. Legends & Lore: In Greek Mythology, a young boy named Hyacinth was killed where his blood spilled gorgeous Grecian blue hyacinths grew. Pliny compared the blue zircon to the hyacinth. During the Middle Ages, zircon was believed to promote sleep, riches, honor and wisdom. It also drove away plagues and evil spirits; In the 1880's blue zircon was widely used in Victorian jewelry; Heating yellow zircon creates blue zircon.
Blue Topaz - A recent addition to the December birthstones is the blue topaz. Most blue topaz is artificially created by irradiation of pale topaz. Legends & Lore: One famous blue topaz was found in 1904 in the Hill Country of Mason County, Texas, North America's largest known gem-quality Topaz discovery. This 1,296-gram, pale-blue gem may be seen in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.; Blue topaz was designated the Texas state gem in 1969.
Flower - Narcissus ~ Also know as the daffodil and the jonquil the narcissus comes in many colors. Meanings include conceit and egotism. It is the symbol of winter and the Chinese symbol of good fortune. The color associated with December is white; its meaning is "stay as sweet as you are". The name is derived from the Greek narke, which means sleep and/or numbness. In Greek mythology Narkissos was a beautiful youth who rejected all of his suitors. One day he came upon a spring at Mount Helicon where he glanced down and saw his reflection. He fell in love with himself and stared at himself endlessly. He did not eat or drink or leave the spring he just admired his mirror image and at the spring he withered away and died. He was then transformed into a beautiful flower by the waters edge, the narcissus that bows its head to see its reflection.

Goddess of The Day -UNCHI-AHCHI
Kencha-sai (Japan)
Themes: Spirituality; Universal Law; Meditation.
Symbols: Tea; Teapots and Cups
About Unchi-Ahchi:Presiding dutifully over the family stove is theis Japanese goddess, whose name means
"grandmother hearth." From this position in the home she joins today's festivities to warm the tea and to meditate
on our beliefs with the other gods and goddesses. Afterward, she returns to our homes and lives with important
insights about the meaning of sacred ritual.
To Do Today: In Japan, today is a time to go to Kyoto temple and watch or participate in the ancient tea ceremony.
In this culture, each movement and ingredient in the tea ceremony represents a spiritual principle or truth - all mingled
into a simple, satisfying cup. This is a lovely tradition, so share a cup of tea with a friend or family member today. Invoke
Unchi-ahchi simply by lighting the stove. Use the stove to ignite a candle, and take the candle to where you're sitting to
carry the goddess's energy to that spot. Discuss spiritual ideas, allowing this goddess to give you new insights. To increase
the significance of your tea ceremony, choose the tea's flavor according to the topic of conversation or something needed
in that relationship. If discussing divination or alternative health, for example, use orange or mint, respectively. To deepen
love or friendship, use lemon.

Pagan Studies -Stones of Change Spell
Grow your finances, a pebble at a time. This spell uses a small bowl you make yourself to change your financial prospect. Youll need a small glass as the mold, about two inches in diameter. Cover the bottom with a layer of petroleum jelly so it runs about one inch up the side. Using a mixture of four parts white glue to one part water, coat small strips of green or brown paper and place them on the glass. Picture yourself having the money you need. Build up at least three or four layers of paper so your bowl will hold up. Allow this to dry overnight, then ease the paper bowl off of your mold and trim any edges. Wipe off the petroleum jelly. Place the bowl on your altar or near where your money is kept. Start collecting small pebbles when youre out walking. Trust yourself to know when a rock is calling out to you. Place these stones in your bowl and money will begin to collect.

GrannyMoon's Morning Feast
Love is in supreme form, concentration. ~Patricia Sterne
Star IQ - by John Levine
Tuesday, December 1
The Moon enters curious Gemini at 9:23 am EST, motivating us to ask questions as we gather more data. But mental Mercury forms a supportive sextile with fuzzy Neptune, making it tough for us to draw any clear conclusions from the facts. Additionally, attractive Venus enters cavalier Sagittarius to tempt us with simple answers to complex questions. Confusion continues to grow with the light of the Moon until it is full very early tomorrow morning.
As the holidays approach, childhood becomes important to us all. For those with children, the holidays are a
time to lavish attention (and, let us not forget, presents!) on them. For those whose children are grown, there
is an opportunity to see them again, perhaps with grandchildren.
And for those without children, as for us all, this is a season when we become more conscious of our own childhood
memories. Holidays are seasons when family and community becomes more vividly important. And those who have
suffered disappointments or tragedies are more vulnerable than ever to sadness over what has occurred, and longing
for what did not.
The holidays can be a time we pull inside, nurturing (or sometimes avoiding) only our immediate families. But around
us are many who face this season with dread and discomfort. Extending the arms of community to include everyone
should be a part of each happy family's holiday plan

Readers in the United States celebrate
Thanksgiving today--the ultimate Sagittarian holiday. Jupiter is the key planet
of Sagittarius and Thanksgiving is held on the first “Jupiter’s
Day” (Thor is Norwegian for Jupiter; Thursday is “Thor’s
Day”.) after the Sun enters Sagittarius. It is a holiday of high ideals
that optimistically celebrates two cultures--European and Native American--intermingling
in fellowship and support. Of course, the reality isn’t the same as the
philosophical vision, but that’s often the dilemma of Sagittarius.

She joins us today to celebrate the successful harvest and keep our hearts
hopeful as the earth's plenty wanes. In art, Spes often appears as a simple
bundle of flowers whose beauty inspires the most distraught of spirits.
To Do Today: Follow pilgrim tradition and set aside time today to thank the
Goddess for her blessings in any way that seems suited to your path and vision.
For example, give Spes an offering of the first slice of holiday bread,
share food with those in need, or perhaps treat the birds and squirrels in your
neighborhood to some bread and nuts.
Locally we invite any friends who have
no family nearby to join with us in a delightful symbolic meal. I serve round
rye bread and dill dip for unity and kinship, sweet potatoes for life's
sweetness and Spe's harvest energies, cranberries mixed with oranges to keep
our energy and health intact, vegetables for firm foundations, and pumpkin pie
with magickal sigils carved in the crust for the goddess's protective spark. If
you look at your own traditional menu, I'll bet you will find many other foods
and beverages that have similar symbolism to bring meaning and Spe's magick to
your table for this holiday. As you eat, remember to pass all the food and
beverages clockwise to invoke Spe's ongoing providence.

The
Empress - The Great Mother - Today brings you in touch with your more sensual nature.
Relax, trust your senses, open your heart to beauty and art. You feel pain for
the World and for the Universe, get those feelings out in the open, perhaps by
expressing them through cooking, writing or art. Ask our Mother for what you
need, remember Venus is the wishing star
Today's
Affirmation: I am grateful
for the small things in my life!
In early New England at Thanksgiving time, it
was customary
to place five grains of corn at every plate. This served as a
reminder of those stern days in the first winter when the
Pilgrims' food was so depleted that only five grains of corn
were rationed to each individual at a time.
The Pilgrims wanted their children to remember the sacrifices,
the sufferings, the hardships which made possible the settle-
ment of a free people in a free land. They did not want their
descendants to forget that on the day on which their ration
was reduced to five grains of corn, only seven healthy
colonists remained to nurse the sick, and nearly half their
number already lay in that windswept graveyard on the hill.

Llewellyn's Spell Of
The Day - Fruitful Earth Spell .
Instead of cleaning your plate this
Thanksgiving, set aside a portion of your feast. Take the food to a natural
area or garden, and bury it or set it out as an offering to the wild animals.
As you do this think about how many creatures do not receive the bounty of
Mother Earth each day. Speak this as you contemplate: “Blessed Mother
Earth. I offer you back the fruit of your womb, the bounty which sustains and
strengthens us all. Be healed and whole so that you may continue to feed your
children. So mote it be.” Consider donating money or time to a charity
that feeds the hungry year round, not just on holidays.
