Good afternoon! We'll have the annual Panther and friends holiday gathering
Tuesday, December 21st here at the house 7-10pm. We're talking about doing a
gift swap -- if you want to participate let me know.

It's potluck. Claim your dish.

I call bacon wrapped dates. 2 for dirty santa gifts. May be bringing a second dish but not sure what.

Good judgement comes from experience.  Experience...  That comes from bad judgement.

Yeah, here we go. I need a pretty quick answer on this...

Diamond Wars this year is October 20-23. That's the next to last weekend in the
month. Genevote has asked if the household would like to take over the kitchen
as independent contractors and provide food for the event.

As independent contractors, we would provide our own funds for the food --
however, we would also keep any profit we made from the venture.

Genevote has also offered us Shady Grove cabin -- the cabin we've used in the
past at the bottom of the hill with all the beds. Her one caveat is if we don't
fill all the beds that we allow other staff to stay there.

She needs an answer ASAP -- her bid is going in Sunday. Would anyone else be
interested in this?

It would depend on my work situation by then but I'm willing.  I can either be more physical less $$ or less physical more $$ depending on where I'm working by then.  I hate not being able to make long range plans.

The Day and Lesson I Will Never Forget!

As a lifelong educator I have devoted my energy to teaching our
children. This is why I will never forget June 28, 1989 since that was
the day I was about to get a great lesson. It was a hot humid day as I
rushed to get into the supermarket a television crew stopped me and
asked me to partake in a show they were going to run live. Thinking
that this is a once in a lifetime chance I agreed. The producer
gathered about twenty people the same way and briefed us. Basically he
told us to go in and buy anything we wished and not to worry about the
price or the money because they would pay for it. Joe, the producer,
did insist that we fill the carts as much as possible. Needless to
say everyone stuffed their carts with the most expensive things they
could find. The checkout was to be the lesson of all time. The individuals
overflowing carts were costing next to nothing since the producer made
us use the company's program which can be found at
http://discounts4food.com My cart only rang up to $23.36 which
included meats, over the counter meds, toiletries, cosmetics, etc.
This has been the most incredible experience I have ever had. When I got
home I signed up for the sampler package and the rest has been nothing
but huge savings!

Hey, guys. Here's what we need for Diamond Wars at this point.

1. Design a card. I need a punch card with eight boxes to punch. I'm not
concerned if it's divided between meals or not. Needs to be business sized.
The cards will sell for $16 in advance and $18 at the door.

2. Pay account set-up. This can be a very simple website attached to some pay
service. If we go with PayPal, we need to charge an amount extra to cover what
PayPal will charge.

3. A show of hands of who is coming, who plans to be in the cabin with us and
who wants to work what meals.

I'd appreciate your help, folks.

I'm just posting this here so you'll also have the information I'm sending out.
For members of the household working the kitchen or the event, there's no
charge. If anyone wants to step up and plan a breakfast or lunch, they're still
available.

I'd like to have a meeting Tuesday the 20th so we can have our ducks in a row.
How's that work for y'all?

Greetings, all! Just wanted to once again share with you the availability of
this awesome meal plan for Diamond Wars. You are coming, right?

The plan for the House Golden Panther meal plan at Diamond Wars is up at
http://tiny.cc/DW2011MealPlan . As with the deadline for Diamond Wars
registrations, the deadline to register for the meal plan (and the discounted
price of $16 for eight meals!) is October 1st. Instructions are provided for
mail-in meal plan reservations ($16 if postmarked by October 1st) and for PayPal
reservations ($16.80, to account for what PayPal charges us).

The plans include dinner on Thursday (far better than any soup kitchen you might
encounter), a hot breakfast and lunch Friday and Saturday, small feasts Friday
and Saturday nights and a pick-up-and-take-with-you breakfast Sunday morning --
all for about what you'd pay for a single meal at say, Colton's or Outback
Steakhouse. Plus -- no cooler to carry along with you!

Some small items will be available for purchase between meals.

Spread the word, please. Questions/allergies, please contact me at
katthestrange @ aol.com.

Many thanks,
THL Katryne MacIntosh the Strange

Yes, the party is happening, all be it a little on the short notice side.

Come for fun, camaraderie, random adventures, and giving my neighbors reason to gossip!

As always, please feel to bring your favorite snack, meal, drink, or mixture thereof.  (In fact, please let me know what you are bringing if you can.)

From the Fayne list:

Brothers and Sisters,

It has been a hard year for many of us. The wars that drive the society offer
grand opportunities to unleash frustrations, set aside responsibilities, and
revel until we feel at peace again amidst the company of family and friends.
Diamond Wars was no exception.

Still, some among us devoted to service step forward yearly, monthly, daily, and
in the cases of a few, hourly, to maintain the systems and practices that keep
these events moving forward with a steady and rewarding pace.

I could list many individuals but I would miss a few who worked diligently
behind the scenes. Know that while I most visibly saw Kat the Strange, Kevin,
and Neal, all of House Golden Panther pulled hard to make the kitchen (and
everything else) a smoothly running example of how it can be done.

House Smoking Tankard threw a party Saturday that seemed the most casual gather
I've seen in a long time, and it was a grand success. Boffer weapons are a
greatness all on their own. A soft stated but ever watchful presence in that
gather was Grav. He made sure that everyone, known or unknown to us, was made
feel welcome and acted like a true host, understating his own enjoyment for that
of the party's success.

I seldom volunteer for these events as I view them as a place to unwind from my
daily life. It is doubly amazing to me therefore that some of you work so hard
and take so much pleasure in this service. I am eternally grateful. It is my
honor to be a member of House Smoking Tankard, and Clan Marshin Fayne. It is a
joy, largely for that honor, to be a member of the Society at large. For all
that you have given, I thank you.

By popular demand (or because a couple of people have been asking and I thought "why the hell not"), I will be doing massages for the first couple of hours of the party.  Yes, that's right, the massage chair will be up and ready to make ya feel all gooey in the muscles.  $1 a minute.  It will be from until I start to until I decide to stop, so treat yourself, treat your honey, or treat Timmy.  Tip Statler on the way out.

Also, please bring any bag chairs or folding chairs.  You guys know the drill.

The grill will be lovingly tended by the amazing Vicki and Ryan, so if ya wants the charred meat, bring the charred meat!

I sent in material for an application for teaching at Pulaski Tech. I was told
not to expect to hear anything until mid December at the earliest. This is
currently the only glimmer of hope in my world of daily Gma care for which my
family is paying me enough to cover the morgage and utilities paid on my house
so I'm not currently in danger of losing it. I am rarely online because it is
dial up connection from Gma's and blocks the phone line as well. No cable TV
either. I have computer games(noninternet), cross-stitch, crafts, and books.
But little energy and less uninterupted sleep. I search the net for jobs
sporadically but with the current economy and my employment history I am having
basicly no luck. My Japanese is getting a little better but that is about it.

I doubt I'll make Shadow Con or any other events until I get a 'proper' job. I
don't know when I'll see anyone as I have little $$ and less time since I'm
expected to be availiable for Gma duty all except M-F 830-230 which is when I
usually get a little sleep. Might be able to make 'Laggerdam Newbie Collegium'
but otherwise...
