Goddess Parvathi is the one of the Divine Consorts of Lord Shiva, who is one among the triads of Hindus, while Lord Brahma is the creator and Lord Vishnu, the preserver, Lord Shiva is the destroyer. Goddess Parvathi is Shivashakti, forms one half of Lord Shiva. She is Kali Maa. She is one of the three aspects of the Divine Being, the others being Goddess Saraswathi and Goddess Lakshmi, the consorts of Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu respectively. She has taken many avtars or Her amshas has taken many forms as the Gram Devis, like Yellamma, Pochamma of andhra Pradesh, Banashankari Devi of Bangalore, etc. Goddess Parvathi is Shakthi. She was actually Goddess Uma, who has taken birth in the house of Daksha, one of the prajapathies and married Lord Shiva. She gave up her body as Daksha has insulted Lord Shiva and wanted to be born to a father who respects Her and Her Husband. She then takes birth as Goddess Parvathi to Himavan, the King of Mountains and his wife, Mena. As the daughter of the King of Mountains(Parvatha or Giri), she is known as Parvathi or Girija.
