This is a reminder about the ACTION ALERT! The "Hate Speech" bill will,
literally, begin our slide i a ditatorship. The thoughtbof what we say being
judged by Pelosi, Read, and Obama --- well, that thought gives me the chills. We
were born into freedom. But if we don't fight to preserve it, the end of our
days will be spent in an American Dictatorship.

I know that sounds strange. But the Democrats have gone mad. They don,
understand that these laws cam be used on anyone -- even them, depending upon
who is in the White House.

As they did with the slaying of college student Matthew Shepard
in 1998, liberals are using the murders of Kansas partial-birth
abortionist George Tiller and Holocaust Museum guard Stephen
Johns as an excuse to try to ram through this dangerous and
unnecessary legislation.

My late father, Dr. D. James Kennedy, and Coral Ridge Ministries
worked for many years to keep this unconstitutional bill from
becoming law and jeopardizing our children's freedom to live out
their faith. In June, Coral Ridge Ministries Senior
Writer/Washington Correspondent Robert Knight submitted written
testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee, calling this
legislation "a grave threat to the constitutional guarantee of
equal protection under the law, America's legal heritage of
judging actions rather than thoughts or beliefs, and it will
politicize law enforcement by making some crime victims' cases
more important than others."

The Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act (S. 909) is the
Senate version of a bill that passed the House in April. A
cornerstone of the homosexual political agenda, it would raise
"sexual orientation" and "gender identity" to a legal status
equivalent to real civil rights categories such as race or
ethnicity. Since "sexual orientation" is not clearly defined,
this would afford special legal protections to pedophiles and
other sexual deviants that ordinary Americans won't get.

To understand the threat this poses, please ponder this:

During the Supreme Court hearings on the Boy Scouts case (Boy
Scouts of America vs. Dale, 2000), the Rev. Rob Schenck of the
National Clergy Council was sitting next to the White House
liaison on gay and lesbian issues. Thinking he was of like mind,
she whispered to him:
"We're not going to win this case, but that's okay. Once we get
'hate crime' laws on the books, we're going to go after the
Scouts and all the other bigots."

In addition, S. 909 would:

Put pressure on police and prosecutors to devote more time and
money to some victims' cases and not others.
Vastly expand the federal government's power to intervene in
criminal cases, whether local authorities want this or not.
Create a taxpayer-funded slush fund for "education" programs
that lump conservative Christians among "hate groups."
Have a chilling effect on free speech by making unpopular ideas
a basis for harsher treatment in criminal proceedings.
Add a layer of law that is utterly unnecessary. There is no
evidence that "hate crime" victims receive less justice. Everyone
deserves equal treatment under the law - no more, no less.

"Americans were horrified by the brutal murders of James Byrd in
Jasper, Texas, and Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming, a decade
ago. More recently, the murders of Angie Zapata and Stephen Johns
have shocked and saddened us all. There ought to be a law, some
people have said, preferably a federal one.

"Of course, there is a law. Murder is a serious crime everywhere
regardless of its motive and it has been from the advent of our
civilization. .... Matthew Shepard's tormentors are now serving
life sentences; James Byrd's are on death row awaiting execution.
A Colorado jury recently convicted Zapata's killer of murder, and
the same will almost certainly happen to [Holocaust Museum
shooter] James von Brunn if he lives long enough to be prosecuted
and is found competent to stand trial.
...

"Unfortunately, tragedies like these bias-inspired murders
quickly became an opportunity for political grandstanding. False
and reckless claims that hate crimes are 'epidemic' and 'on the
rise' are all too easily made.... Passage of the vaguely-worded
prohibitions in S. 909 would be a giant step toward the
federalization of all crime. Given the many civil liberties
issues that would raise, including the routine potential of
double jeopardy prosecutions, this is a step that members of the
Senate should think twice before they take."

The need is great for everyone who receives this email to take
action! Please call or email your senators right away to urge

Here are three key points to tell your senator:

This bill:

Is an Assault on Liberty of Conscience. In free countries,
criminal acts are punished, not beliefs or views. The proposed
hate crimes bill would result in two convictions - one for the
criminal act, and another for the beliefs or thoughts behind it.
This is a road to "thought crime" tyranny that is unfolding
already in Europe and Canada.

Is not needed. Every state legal code already protects men and
women, whatever their "actual or perceived ... sexual
orientation," against criminal assault. There is no hate-crime
"epidemic" in America. The FBI reports that so-called hate
crimes, which are difficult to identify because only God can know
the human heart, are a tiny fraction of all crimes.

Puts Pastors At Risk For Prosecution. Anyone, including pastors,
can be accused of creating a "climate of hate" that leads to
violence, merely for speaking biblical truth. Under
Pennsylvania's hate crimes law, 11 Christians were arrested and
jailed in 2004 merely for preaching the gospel at a Philadelphia
homosexual street festival. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas), a
former judge, said that under this federal bill, clergymen and
others could be charged with encouraging or inducing a "hate
crime" if they preach against homosexuality.

Please call your senators now to respectfully request their
position on this bill and to urge them to vote No on S. 909.
Among other things, this bill is a giant step toward
criminalizing Christianity.
