Casting a circle is a simple a way to prepare yourself for your
spell, ritual or incantation. The way you cast should be up to you.
You said your a solitary who are you going to upset if you do it wrong?
Better yet its your circle how can you do it wrong ? The important part
is if you cast a circle to open your ritual, be sure to close it . As a
circle it opens areas that you do not want left open to others .
I cast my circle using my broom opening and closing with a sweeping
motion clearing (sweeping ) the area free of other distractions that
might be there .
My friend opens hers by lighting candles others use insense .
Use what feels comfortable to you .

It is fear of the unknown that scares people, I would
prefer people ask about me instead of jumping to
conclusions. I have to say that I have been lucky so
far I live in a very small Christian-conservative town
and I have not had any problems. I work at our local
library where one of my jobs is to provide teen
programs and most of the teens know what I am about,
mainly because I wear my pentacle and they have seen
it and ask questions. My co-workers don't really
understand but we all get along and if they ask
questions I answer to the best of my ability, I also
ask them questions about their beliefs and they are
happy to answer as well as listen to mine. I don't
shout from the rooftops or preach but I don't hide
either. My family knows and accepts I am one of the
lucky few, I have not had any negative or bad
Incidents yet (Knock on wood) but I have always had an
open minded family. As for my co-workers and friends
one of my co-workers (who by the way is a very devout
christian) said it best when she told me It was your
heart and soul that spoke to me first, not your, race
or religion.

Merry Meet.
It is counseled for a long time... to work in Unity with the forces of nature,
so as to Increase Strength of energy flow... Spellcasting during the dark moon
is comparitive to swimming Upstream, It Can Be Done...I've done it. However, it
is wiser to put forth All possible energy Towards The Same direction, rather
than take the past of Greatest resistance to confront and overcome other already
existing opposition...
Also, I noted that you asked concerning sunday and saturday.
SUNDAY: Day of The Sun... For workings of Light, Healing, Excorcism,
Fertility, Wisdom, Peace, Strength and Protection...Among other things.

SATURDAY: Day of Saturn, Good for workings of Divination, Banishment,

The whole witches, pagans, and vampires thing kinda bothers me. It
could be because I was raised christian and eventually found wicca. I
can understand putting pagans and witches together, throwing the
vampire in there reminds me of a bad "Charmed" episode. From my
understanding and please correct me if I'm wrong, but vampirism I
don't think is actually considered a religion and therefore not
protected under any religious discrimination statutes. It's a sub-
culture, but not a religion. There are a lot of "goth vampire" people
who think witches are cool, just because witches tend to be viewed
outside of society, much like themselves-simply labeled "freaks";
however I am also of the opinion that any good witch is active in the
community. I think the gentleman who created the WPV is ignorant of
the ramifications of putting those three things together. Vampires
are not viewed in a good light. Witches aren't even completely viewed
in a good light.Granted we are more visible and don't even have to
wear a black pointy hat to be seen, but putting vampires in with
witches is almost like a raping of the old ways, not that I dislike
vampires, I don't. I would just prefer that Cerridwen and Dracula
stay at their seperate areas. A lot of people are putting vampirism
and witches together, I know this because everything I look for a
healing spell online I find the the website that says "wiccan vampire
goth spells healing oil cursing oil" I get disgusted. Now mind you
this is strictly my opinion, but if someone want to show someone else
that they aren't like Dracula, show it by what is said and acted
upon. Just like wiccans. Many a day I have co-workers and friends ask
me to cast a spell for them and each time I refuse because I will not
impose my will on someone. Shot I don't even mess around with a Ouija
Board. I tell these people that only they can fix their problems,
because each man has to work out his own crap. Sure it irritates them
right away, but they come back a few days later and thank me for not
doing the spell they wanted because they were able to sort out their
own problem. Anyway now I'm rambling so I should go to bed and sleep.
Thanks for reading and Blessed Be!

** I'm glad to help :) Getting stuck in the rut of details and what
this person says must be or that is easy to do - gotta trust what's
inside you - that will lead you where you need to be - there's a
reason, after all, you feel what you do and you just have to learn to
trust that. Try to think of it this way if you'd like: If
everything has spirit (from us to animals to trees to the rivers and
stones - all things above and below as it were - and in between) and
all things, touching the Divine with that Spirit, are thus sacred -
trust that YOU are also touching the Divine, that YOUR Spirit is just
as worthy of learning and questing. No-one has ALL the answers, but
maybe on your questing you'll find a few, eh?
Gotta trust yourself first though - that's the first of many, many
steps.

  I'm a solitary with a huge

(especially my favorite,
> Gerina's book Exploring Spellcraft). I don't have a specific
tradition,

** Not many of us DO have a specific Trad, might as well go
with "Eclectic" as that's a mix of many ;) Sort of a mutt if you
will - that's a HUGE number of Pagans out there - I'm not Wiccan as I
was not Initiated into a Coven by someone whose lineage of Initiation
goes back to Gerald Gardner or Alex Sanders, I'm a Pagan though, and a
Witch - and that's enough.

  and I've yet to
> cast a circle because I'm afraid I'll screw it up by missing a step,
which brings me to
> my next question. Do you always cast a circle before you do
spellwork??

** Nope, I don't. Sometimes the space is sacred enough (ie: when I'm
at the Sekhmet Temple www.sekhmettemple.com which is a STUNNING place
just outside Las Vegas, where I live, it's mind-blowing, the energy
there.....) and sometimes I do, though truly I have never called the
Quarters - as I said, I don't follow the Wiccan Tradition, and so that
doesn't feel right to me, but I DO call on the energies of the
Directions, Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit/Akasha. This DOES feel
right to me personally and so I do show respect to these things and
honor them in Circle. Normally it's just me in Circle though, I use
no tools and simply in my mind (where the Divine can hear me equally
well and where remembering to say words in sequence doesn't matter
because the Intent is there). Protection IS important but sometimes,
ie: when I'm doing candle work, I simply light the candle and speak
what needs to be spoken, I don't worry about casting a Circle every
time - it just isn't needed- but when it is, I trust that I will do it
in the way that will be best for me at that time -
Good luck

Greetings to all

I am in great interest of the Art. So I have joined this group, to change
some ideas in some key topics.

Usually I tend to work in some deep aspects of the Art. I also dwell in the
manipulation of herbs, infusions, potions, etc.

One of these days I will upload a picture of myself, and some pictures of
the town where I live (Sinta, Portugal)

I must apologise for my poor English. English as you may know it's not my
mother language, so be aware of any poor spelling from my part.

Best regards to all

Greetings

According to my Webster's unabridged dictionary. Warlock derives from warloghe,
warlach or warloga, one that breaks faith, scoundrel, the devil. One given to
black magic: sorcerer, wizard, conjuror.

I have found no reference to the German root. Very interesting! Where did you
get that reference?

Ah, yes...good ol' Webster's! Have you looked up "witch" in the dictionary
recently?

If we're going to assert that Webster's definition of witch is, if not
*wrong*, at least biased, then we must be willing to admit that their
definition of warlock may also be inaccurate.

BTW, there's an alternative etymology for warlock that derives from the Old
Norse term vardlokkur, which translates as "one who calls spirits" or
"sorcerer" (literally "spirit song"). I read a dissertation on this
etymology online a few years ago, but I can't track it down...this is the
attested etymology of warlock in CoG's FAQ.

(I'm *not* suggesting that either definition/etymology is either true or
false - words have whatever meaning a particular community ascribes to
them. To most Americans, Webster's definition is gospel...)

Your christian friend sounds like a very caring person . WHat a
beautiful way to put her caring for you . If only more people saw the
insides of people instead of labling them by race or religion perhaps
there would be religious tolerance and freedom .
I also don't think websters is the know all end all of books. After all
its one persons opinion of what words mean . Its only one book of many
books of knowledge.
I use it mostly for spelling LOL cause I can't spell for beans !
I have always been told and read that a warlock is not a male witch but
one who practices black majic and harm to others.
THat is not my defination of a witch .

Happy Imbolc to All
All my coven people just left after our Imbolc ritual. It went great! We had a
better than average turn out tonight despite Superbowl Sunday being tomorrow.
On an interesting note the groundhog in Canada did not see his shadow.

BB,
Sarah

MM Group, I need some help, I am doing an intensive study on the
History and the cultures who used the pentacle. I need anything to do
the different cultures that used the Pentacle. How for example the
Celtics used knots to form there Pentacle, things like that. If anyone
can help me I would greatly appreciate it. MP, Seeker

*Smilez* "Very interesting" I love the norse mythology; but was unaware of the
norse word "Vardlokkur".
Concerning webster, His defonition of witches/warlocks are typical CHRISTian
Stereotyical descriptions, at least in any websters dictionary I've read.
I have never seen webster refer to root languages when it comes to these
words; and probably with good reason... After all, Noah Webster was a typical
superstitious CHRISTian as was The Majority in his time...
No... the defonition I listed was taken from An Anglo Saxon Root word
mentioned in a Lecture by "Fiona Horne" Our Sister representative from
Austrailia. Perhaps you've heard of her...
In all Kindness and love, I must ask... "Dude, seriously, where did you get
webster?"

recently?

If we're going to assert that Webster's definition of witch is, if not *wrong*,
at least biased, then we must be willing to admit that their definition of
warlock may also be inaccurate.

BTW, there's an alternative etymology for warlock that derives from the Old
Norse term vardlokkur, which translates as "one who calls spirits" or "sorcerer"
(literally "spirit song"). I read a dissertation on this etymology online a few
years ago, but I can't track it down...this is the attested etymology of warlock
in CoG's FAQ.

(I'm *not* suggesting that either definition/etymology is either true or false -
words have whatever meaning a particular community ascribes to them. To most
Americans, Webster's definition is gospel...)

Gotta trust yourself first though - that's the first of many, many
steps.

I'm a solitary with a huge
> collection of witchcraft books that I constantly refer to
(especially my favorite,
> Gerina's book Exploring Spellcraft).

Protection IS important but sometimes,
ie: when I'm doing candle work, I simply light the candle and speak
what needs to be spoken, I don't worry about casting a Circle every
time - it just isn't needed- but when it is, I trust that I will do it
in the way that will be best for me at that time -
Good luck
