awwww - I'm so glad to hear a happy (if scabby) ending to this story.  It was so cold and I was feeling very worried for your kitty.

Thanks to all the people who put up with my cat related spam.  Desman came crying through the back door, very hungry, with a scab on either side of his face, and smelling like a musty basement.  He must have been trapped in a small, musty space somewhere, gave himself the scabs by trying to push his way out, and finally got hungry enough to do it (for a cat as, ahem, big-boned as Desman, 60 hours without kibble is unprecedented).  Again- thank you very much to everyone who looked.  Royce and Francine

Thank you for your concern, Gaea.  We have checked as many of those places as we can without breaking any laws, but no luck so far.  We would appreciate very much if people would check some of those places for us, because it is possible that he has been injured and crawled into a corner somewhere, but we don't want to scare anyone by skulking around their yard with our flashlight.  Already got some looks from people while checking under all the cars on the street...

Thanks again for your reply; we appreciate it.  Regards- Royce

Sorry to hear that your kitty is missing! We will keep an eye out for him. I heard about one of our neighbors' cats getting stuck in a garage for a couple of days--have you checked those sorts of places?
We'll get our cats on the case too.
Good luck!

Hi All- I sent out a message last night to ask people to watch out for our missing cat.  He is still missing, so I wanted to get some pictures out there that might be helpful if you think you might have seen him.  The first picture shows that he is almost all black with a white spot on his belly, and the second picture shows his face.  Please see the message below for additional details and contact info.  Thanks very much- Royce

Hi- Our cat has gone AWOL, and we are concerned, so would appreciate it if the neighbors could keep an eye out for us. He is mostly black with a 2" white spot on his belly. Green eyes and a long tail. He is very friendly, but pretty skittish around strangers. He is microchipped, but was not wearing a collar. Name is Desman, but can't say he'll answer to it... If you see a cat looking hungry and freaked out that matches this description, please let Royce or Francine know at this email address, 206-291-6548, 206-501-0253, or at 6444 Flora. Thanks very much, we will share the best of our scotch, chocolate, wine, or anything else with anyone who can help find our very sweet, but not entirely bright cat. Thanks- Royce and Francine

HI Folks,
I wanted invite Georgetown folks to participate in our fundraiser, tonight(Sat)!
You can come out to Art Attack, eat, drink, see some great music, and be merry
while also supporting an awesome program, the Wild and Scenic Institute! A
handful of South Park kids will even be giving a short presentation at the
Seattle Drum School to kick off the event around 6pm!

WSI is gearing up for our Bald Eagle floats on the Skagit River where we take
young people to see the Eagles migrating for the spawning salmon. There are
literally hundreds of eagles! It's really cool! We're also hoping to schedule a
ski trip for physically disabled kids.

Basically, you donate $20, and receive a VIP Pass that get's you special prices
at participating restaurants and bars, and, entry into 2 shows (valued at over
$35). We end the evening with Music by Danny Godinez, and, Spare Rib & the
Bluegrass Sauce at Slim's Last Chance. If you can't join us for the whole
event, you could meet us at Slim's around 9pm. $7 door is being donated to WSI
as well.

We have some great raffle prizes (which you can also purchase separately from
me)for things like a certificate to Bike So Good, a belt from Steel Toe Shoes, a
2 day rafting adventure, gift certificate to Cutting Board, 2 music lessons at
the Seattle Drum School, A Gift Pack from Sister Sage Herbs, Full bottle
throttle, HOME, etc.

Please see our website for details at www.wildandscenic.org or if you're on
Facebook, check out our page! The event is detailed under "Events" on our FB
page.

We're also having a Float for Donors on January 9 which costs $100, but if you
bring 12 people to the Georgetown Fundraiser, or raise $300 for WSI, we'll take
you for free.

Oh yeah, and if you pay in advance either via paypal, or directly to me (I'm
here in SP, and will be home most of the day), you can get 15% off an item at
REI (some restrictions apply, but geez... that could be worth $20 right there!).

Hope you can make it! If you just want to come to the presentation around
6/6:15pm, and have a cup of hot cocoa, and learn more about us, we'd love to
have you.

Thanks!

Hello neighbors. I'm looking for a cool looking raw industrial space
for a photo shoot for an art project. The same space would need to be
available for a shoot either next week or early january and also
another in late february. Any one have any leads?
Does anyone know who to get in touch with at boeing about some of
their empty buildings along the duwamish for this purpose?

thanks for your help!

Equinox Studios is having a particularly (very) open house on Saturday corresponding with Art Attack. There are some really cool industrial spaces in there, not very large, but very interesting machinery. You could check out a lot of options without a lot of walking there.

Another plug about the Opportunity Fund.

Parks and Green Spaces Levy
Opportunity Fund

________________________________

Up to $1,500,000. What Parks project would you initiate?

This is your opportunity to get involved in your Seattle parks system. Dedicated
community organizations and individuals mounted a grassroots effort to pass the
2008 Parks and Green Spaces Levy, and now Parks is looking for your input. This
Levy allocated $15 million to the Opportunity Fund.

The Opportunity Fund provides solely for community initiated park projects. You
have the opportunity to propose a park development project and/or propose a
piece of property for Parks to acquire. Parks will award $7 million to projects
in this first funding cycle of the Opportunity Fund through a citywide
nomination process. The Levy Citizens Oversight Committee has developed criteria
for evaluating, nominating, and recommending Opportunity Fund projects to the
City Council.

The first round is open for you to submit your Project Proposal Letter. Parks is
hosting four technical workshops to help you develop your Proposal Letter and to
answer questions about the Opportunity Fund criteria. Proposal Letters must be
submitted by February 1, 2009. The next step is to develop your application,
which is due on April 2, 2009. Sorry, no applications will be accepted without
an initial proposal letter.

Hey Georgetown-

I wanted to write to say thank you. Thank you for being the awesome
community that you are. Thank you for making the effort to all get
together several times a year (like we just did on Monday at the
Holiday Party). Thank you for your dedication to making our hood as
good as it can be (projects like the Hat and Boots renovation, the
monthly Art Attack, and to all who open their homes and yards for the
annual Garden Walk). Thank you for stepping up and taking care of
your neighbors when they are in need, and watching out for them when
they are not home.
We live in a very special community, and every so often it's
important to take a moment and truly appreciate how fortunate we all
are. Thank you, Georgetown.

Peace.

Something to think about today...

FYI - from our neighbor, Rod, near the intersection of Rustic Road S & Lakeridge at the top of Lakeridge.

With all the extra police officers in Lakewood today, please be extra-aware.

Also vehicles to watch that were suspicious in mid-Nov:

  • Silver Subaru
  • Grey Mercury Sable
  • Blue BMW SUV

Thanks, Rod, for making that call!  And a BIG THANK YOU to all our local deputy sheriffs for making our neighborhood a safer place to live!

Good Morning all,

I'm Rodney, and i live to the right of Carol and Dennis's, at the green
house. This morning approx. 0915 am a suspicious looking White Cadillac
or Oldsmobile with, 2 males driving, and the first 3 license number
"008" has been driving slowly around the neighborhood for about 4 or 5
times; Till  they saw me walking and jetted off.  I  had informed the
non-emergency line to ask for patrol as I had just left for my bus. I
certainly hope it's nothing but you can't be too careful with what
happened in the past in the neighborhood.

A huge thank you to all who helped to organize, set-up, take-down, bring food, drink and merriment to the 1st (dare I say, annual?) Georgetown Holiday Party.  It was a great to meet so many people who live and work in Georgetown!

Happy holidays to all.  And a reminder: Caroling in Georgetown is scheduled for Sunday, December 20th.  If you'd like to sing, please meet at the Georgetown Gospel Chapel (on Carleton) at 6:30 p.m.  If you want to enjoy the singing, leave your porch light on that night and we'll shower you with our best fa la la las.

Cheers!
