Description

This group is about traditional dollmaking in general and also is a place to write in questions or start discussions about making GW kits and patterns. Gail has been a professional dollmaker and teacher since 1974 whose focus has always been early American dolls (pretty much before 1900), and includes homemade and cottage industry cloth dolls, papier mache and jointed wooden dolls.

Members may add their websites to the Database (click at left) then clicking on Member Websites and then Add Record.
Pictures may also be added by clicking on Photos at left, then make an album for yourself and add to this. If you need photos moved, Gail will do this. We may need to delete photos from time to time if allowable space gets used up.

The photo at right will change frequently according to topic or whim. Some previous photos (historic dolls) will be in the Historical folder in Photos.

The current picture is of two antique dolls who inspired my next online class and doll making retreat. The doll on the left is of a papier mache head on a wooden body Milliner's Model and the doll on the right is one of three sizes I have of Milliner's Models with china heads and the more traditional wooden arms and legs in the cloth body. I love the diminutive sizes of these dolls and the doll theme du jour seems to be Milliners Models. My dolls will be made with papier mache heads (all molded from my own originals) and graduated in 9", 7" and 4-1/2" sizes, all with easy to carve wooden limbs. Simple gowns and underthings patterns will be provided for all three sizes with a bonus lesson on how to paint overdye extra fine batiste to some desirable vintage hues for each doll. Class kits will include parts for all 3 dolls, plus paints, fabrics and trims. Visit my Classes page of my website for more information.
