The Gothic Volunteer Alliance is an action league of individual volunteers who conduct humanitarian acts for the betterment of the local and global community. GVA was founded in reaction to the unnerving increase in hatred, intolerance and violence directed at those in subcultures. The Gothic Subculture is often misunderstood and therefore needlessly feared and targeted. People are people, regardless of what culture they identify themselves with. By exposure, people abandon their fears and accept that while people are different and have different lifestyles, they are people none the less, and there is value to everyone’s existence and individuality.

It is our mission to bring understanding of the Gothic Subculture to those who are without. GVA seeks to display to the world the beauties that the Gothic Subculture has to offer through interactive works of volunteerism and charity within the local community.

What We Do:
Beach Cleanups, Graffiti & Neighborhood Cleanups, Fundraisers for Suicide Prevention, Fundraisers for the Humane Treatment and Care of Animals, Public Information and Awareness Campaigns, Inter-community liaisons, Voter Registration Drives...and so much more.

Our History:

Gothic Volunteer Alliance was the former Goth Help Us - San Diego chapter, formed in October 2006 after an assault against several San Diego Goths. GHU was an international organization that was dissolved by the organization founder. The San Diego Chapter members unanimously voted to reform as the Gothic Volunteer Alliance and continue helping the community. Though the name has changed, the good works and achievements in the community never ceased.

The Gothic Volunteer Alliance does not discriminate based on race, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, age, political party affiliation or any other cultural identifying factor. One DOES NOT have to be “Gothic” to be a member.
