We have done a leader / daughter tea  2 hours Sunday afternoon   leaders spend time with their daughters to do crafts.   Tea/coffee/ hot coco and cookies/brownies.  The idea is that leaders don’t spend with their daughters at meetings doing this stuff as they are helping all the girls

Cost is very low.

We've done an ice cream social with a special patch for the girls.  Very simple and cheap - even pretty short.  The leaders and daughters just have a special treat and some time together.

We do a Christmas cookie exchange at our Dec Leaders meeting. Each leader
makes a batch of cookies. The daughters come and while we have our shortened
meeting they make gift tags. Then we eat 4-6 cookies each with milk and then
package up the rest of the cookies for distribution to various group homes,
nursing homes, police and schools.
So we have fun and do a service project. I think it could work for
Valentine's Day or almost anytime.

We do a cake bake contest.  Last year we had Kohls come and judge all the cakes while we had a reptile guy come.  Catered sandwiches and had cake for desert.  You can choose a theme for all the cakes.  THere are rules for the bake contest.  One boxed cake, everything edible, etc.  I could get that information for you.

Park Ridge has a website - the website we use is www.webs.com - and free.  It works well enough for what we need.  One of our Girl Scouts set this up as her Silver award project.  No we are becoming more advanced we will be looking into other "more advanced" website hosting companies, but they are not free.  Hope this helps!  Good Luck!!

I think ours is $30 or $60 a year -- probably the later since it includes a domain name.
Love comments if you visit: Www.partroygs.org

It is not up-to-date with "year of the girl" info but it has world thinking day, centennial, and journey info.  Probably "forever green" links too.  (GSNNJ has not yet picked a forever green project.  You can't get to our roster or some of the actual flyers are they are password protected. You will also notice we do not say where girls are camping.  We do list our monthly adult meetings openly -- anyone can come to those!

The issue, IMHO, is not creating a website; but the updating and maintenance. Our interface requires use of HTML and it is not something that "just any one" can go in and update.  :(

Hi,

You can create a free website on Weebly.com for free.  If you keep the Weebly extension your website will be free. So for example, my town girl scouts.Weebly .com. You do not need to know HTML to create the website. I agree with other posters who said it's the updating that's time consuming as you always need to be on top of it. But great idea about the silver award project! Let the girls do it-brilliant!

I'd love to see a list of Girl Scout Sunday Services available and
publicized - among Girl Scouts and in the newspapers, etc.

I'm pretty sure that there will be at least 3 in Parsippany on Sunday,
March 11, and we should be getting our press release out soon. They are
open to girl scouts of any and all faiths - or those with none. Looks
like 2 catholic & one protestant at least this year. I know that just
as girls and their families from all over attend church & temples in
Parsippany, also families from Parsippany attend services in other towns
- near and far. Who knows what's scheduled for this year - GSUSA's
centennial?

Any Girl Scout Sabbath Services? Technically Girl Scout Sabbath, is
Saturday, ending Girl Scout week, but I suspect that services would be
Friday evening, March 16th.

Send Email Send Email

Parsippany Girl Scouts has been excitedly planning for Girl Scouts'
100th Anniversary for some time.
Much of what is happening may not be visible out of town, although
certainly all Girl Scout Sunday services are always open to all (of any
denomination from any town).

We also have designed a 5-patch set to celebrate GSUUSA's 100th
Anniversary. It can be ordered by mail for $8 for the 5 patch set.
Expect patches to be mailed no sooner than 3/12/2012 - let us surprise
you if they can get out any sooner.
There is a flyer attached with details & I will add it to the files
section of our group later.

In town we strongly recommend that the set be earned - but we understand
that some may be interested as collectors and we do not have control
over patch distribution outside! When it is earned, leaders determine
the exact requirements but: the top/bridge peice is for celebrating the
Centenial, the right piece (of people in a circle) is for "community
service", the left piece is for "prodict sales participation" and the
bottom piece is for an "outdoor event". Camping is not required.

As ever, love to hear what our towns & Service Units are doing!

Hi all!

One of our 4th grade Mahwah Girl Scout Juniors, Mary Nelson, is having surgery in 2 weeks to remove a brain tumor.  Her mom Kim is a troop co-leader.  Mary loves Girl Scouts and wants to spend at least an hour at her troop's cookie booth right after she comes out of the hospital!

Mary would love to have cards and pictures from her Girl Scout sisters to brighten up her room and cheer her up.  Could all of our younger scouts take some time in the next couple of weeks to make cards and draw pictures for Mary?  I'll let you know where to send them.

On Saturday March 24th, the DreamRoomMakeOvers.org 501 charitable organization is going to tackle the Nelson's home in Mahwah.  Designers have been planning on dream room makeovers for Mary and her sister. At the same time, the organization will be redoing most of the house!  And all this in one day!

This is where adults and older girls (and boys) can really come in to help.
  • You can go to the website www.DreamRoomMakeOvers.org to learn more about the organization and the Nelson project in particular.
  • You can volunteer to help by emailing DreamRoomMakeOvers@... .  A few days before the event, volunteers will get more detailed instructions.
  • You can donate money through PayPal right on the website.
Mahwah Police is donating lunch for the expected 200+ volunteers, but breakfast, snacks, baked goods, water bottles, beverages, etc. will be needed. Plus, they'll be jobs to do outside and in preparing items for the house, sorting through stuff, staffing food tables, etc.  Teens need to be 16 to actually go in the house, but they can help outside.

Home Depot is providing some materials but the organization is in need of other materials, money and volunteer staff.

Please share this with other people and businesses who might like to help.

Thank you.

I am  a junior Girl Scout, and I was wondering if you could give me more info on Mary Nelson. I wanted to ask my principal if I could announce that Mary would like cards and as a school we could make a big card and have everyone in the school sign it.   Where should we send the card / cards?

Subject: [GSNNJSUMS] Help Needed to Help One of Our Own Mahwah Families

Thank you.
