Welcome to the Friends of Pine Ridge Reservation Yahoo group, providing a place for www.FriendsofPineRidgeReservation.org donors to learn more about specific ways they can help the Native American community on Pine Ridge!

Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, is 2 million acres large and encompasses two of the poorest counties in the U.S. With a population of approx. 40,000, the scope of the needs of many people living on the reservation is immense. Instead of donating to individuals, an impossible task to do equitably, FoPRR supports only organized social services entities and schools on the reservation that serve many others. We send our coordinated individual donations to shelters, schools, rehab centers, medical clinics, etc. and provide them with urgently needed supplies. Check our website for a listing of schools and organizations we support.

Our goal is to inform others how to help provide resources to these organizations, and to donate in ways that help preserve and support the Lakota culture. We do so with utmost respect for the dignity of our neighbors on Pine Ridge. In doing so we ask that you are mindful of the condition of the donations you send to Pine Ridge. Please send new items when you can and check the donation instructions for each agency at our website for details on what they can and cannot accept.

Note: Please choose only "Individual E-Mail," "Digest," or "Special Notice" for your membership; "No mail" is not an option. Our success depends upon your participation and we'd like all to be aware of our donation drives. All initial notices of donation drives are sent via Special Notice.

Whether or not you plan to purchase your donations (school supplies, toiletries, etc.)or make them (by sewing, quilting, crocheting or knitting), welcome to the group!
