Mathnasium, the national learning center where kids go year-round to improve
their math concepts and skills, teams up with Logan Square's Nothin' Less Café
and a publisher of Nothin' Less Neighborhood Newspaper to present Tri-Mathelon:
a mathematics competition for elementary students in Logan Square beginning
March 18th. At a time when education reform is in the public consciousness, this
event will highlight the hard work and talent of Logan Square students.
What is it?
The Tri-Mathelon is a mathematics competition where 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade
students compete at their own grade level or higher in three 15 minute sets of
math problems. Students can compete for 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place in their
respective grade level and have a chance to qualify for Mathnasium's National
Math Olympics in May.
Who can compete?
Organizers are currently in talks with 20 Logan Square elementary schools to get
their students involved. The school with the highest cumulative score will
receive a financial reward. Any student living in Logan Square, regardless of
where they attend school, may register to compete.
