Friends of Fairmount High School are people working together to save the original 1898 Romanesque-style High School in Fairmount, Indiana. In 1986 the building was abandoned for use as a school. Since that time it has been sitting empty and deteriorating. Large holes in the roof and broken windows don’t keep out the water. Water had damaged nearly every inch of the building. Plaster has fallen, beams are cracked, floors sinking, and the stairway collapsed. This is where James Dean learned his acting craft under the tutelage of Adeline Nall. This is the stage where Jimmy displayed his early acting skills. This is where Jimmy made friends, talked motorcycles, played basketball. Other well-known graduates are Garfield creator, Jim Davis; CBS newsman, Phil Jones; Bob Sheets, director of the National Hurricane Center; and Artist, Olive Rush. We need your support to get the word out and to raise funds to stabilize the building before it falls down (REALLY)! Becoming a member of Friends of Fairmount High School Yahoo group will ensure you receive updates on activities, events and progress on the Fairmount High School Rehabilitation.
