Friends of the Flint River Trail work to promote greater use of the trail by sponsoring weekly bicycle rides on the trail and by improving the appearance and safety of the trail. They also work with other organizations to extend the trail's length and to move toward a city/county trail system. The trail is located in Genesee County with portions in Flint, Michigan.
The group's weekly rides are on Sundays at 2:00 and Thursdays at 6:00 PM. All rides start at the Flint Farmer's Market. Organized rides start the first Sunday of May and end the last Sunday of October.
Sunday rides are family oriented and include both a shorter, slower ride that goes only 5 or 6 miles and a longer ride that is 12 miles round trip to Bluebell Beach and back. All rides are leisurely and intended for the recreational rider; we do not focus on speed or distance. Sunday rides are primarily along the Flint River Trial, but we do occasionally ride to destinations off the river. Usually once a month there is a ride to some special destination like the Flint Institute of Arts, Applewood Estates, Good Beans Cafe, etc. Check the calendar for details. Rides usually include refreshments provided by one of our member riders.
Our Thursday evening rides are new this year. They have tended to be smaller groups with more riding and no special events. Depending on the group, rides vary in length.
Regardly of the day or ride, we ALWAYS accomodate new riders regardless of ability. We always ride as a group and offer whatever support is necessary to people just beginning to get into riding.
