Description

On May 26, 2005, Gina Hinton, age 28, admits that she shoplifted from the Colma City Toys R' Us. Hinton admits that when approached by store security, she ran from the store and jumped in her car. Hinton admits that she put the pedal to the medal and took off. Hinton further admits that when a Colma City police officer on motorcycle took up pursuit, all she could think about was getting away, so she kept driving never once stopping until she ran into a dead-end street near and around 24th Street in San Francisco.

What Hinton did next when confronted by the Colma City motorcycle cop and SFPD officers was to put up her hands in the gesture signaling her surrender. It was then that Hinton looked up and saw the Colma City police officer aim and fire, she heard the glass on the driver side where she was seated shatter. The last thing that she remembers hearing was more gunfire, but it wasn't until 4 weeks later when she emerged out of a coma that she learned she'd been shot a total of 8 times.

Now Hinton is at CPOD San Francisco County Jail at 425-7th Street charged with evading arrest, possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and assault on a police officer. While Hinton acknowledges that she was evading arrest, she emphatically states that she did not assault the police officer and that she did not have any drugs in her possession. Hinton says that she is sorry for the shoplifting and running from the cops, but she wants it known that she is innocent of the assault and drug charges.

What Hinton now wants is to know why the cop, who was way out of jurisdiction, was allowed by those SFPD officers present to shoot her 8 times. What Hinton now wants is justice pointing out that shoplifting and running from the police did not give the Colma City cop the right to attempt to take her life in such a heartless and brutal manner.
