Welcome to the Hamilton County Freecycle (TM) group.
FACT: Hamilton County is larger than the State of Rhode Island. It's the third largest county in New York State with an area of 1,155,667 acres, but it's the least populated county in New York State with only 5,379 year round residents. The summer population of the county increases by 12 times due to seasonal homeowners. Seventy percent of the county is state owned land, which is regulated by the
Adirondack Park Forest Preserve. Hamilton County is the only county entirely inside and surrounded by the six million-acre Adirondack Park Forest Preserve. Approximately 89% of the county is forested and over 5% of the land is water. There are over 350 lakes and ponds, and hundreds of miles of rivers and streams in Hamilton County.
The Yourtown Freecycle Network is open to all who want to "recycle" items rather than throw them away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate. One constraint is everything posted must be free. Freecycle is a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills. Check out
freecycle.org for other cities and info on the movement.
