ARTICLE TITLE:
5 Quick Tips For Getting Into Chain Stores

ARTICLE FOLLOWS:
Getting your product into a chain store is no easy task. Not only do you need to
prove your product fills a gap or is better than existing products on the
market, you need to make sure you can meet the production demands of those chain
stores. And that costs money.

Before leaping head first into the realm of chain store mania, start with
smaller, local stores. Get a feel for what the public wants. Fine-tune your
product based upon consumer and retailer feedback. And build up enough reserve
capital to carry you when you finally do make the big leap to chain store
heaven.

Once you've perfected your product and sales are steady and reliable, it's time
to hit the chain stores.

1. Prepare a business plan. In your business plan, include information like:
a. Who the target audience is,
b. How sales have been in the past,
c. What current consumers and retailers have to say about your product,
d. What makes your product stand out, and
e. How your product can fill a void in their stores. (Remember, the bottom line
of any chain store is profit margins.)

2. Plan ahead for growth. Make a list of manufacturers and distributors who
offer the best cost for mass producing your product and the best cost for
distributing your product to the chain stores.
a. How will you meet the demands of your new customers?
b. Who will produce your product?
c. How will you get your product into stores?

3. Prepare for wholesale prices. Remember you'll be selling your product to
retail chains for 50-75% off retail price.
a. What does it cost to make each individual product once mass produced?
b. What profit do you need to receive to keep your business afloat?
c. What will be the "official" retail price?

4. Locate retailers. Make a list of chain stores that you believe will benefit
from selling your product, then find out who their buyers and/or suppliers are.

5. Create a presentation. How you present your product to the retail chains is
just as important as the quality of the product itself. Take the time to put
together a great presentation package and include things like:
a. Sample product
b. Sample of product packaging
c. Product Catalog complete with retail and wholesale pricing
d. Marketing and advertising plan
e. Mass product plan

THE MAGIC OF THINKING BIG by David Schwartz (PART ONE)

Submitter's Note:
This article (in point form), extracted from a chapter from my manuscript 'Steps
to Success, Prosperity and Happiness' is based on an excellent motivational,
up-lifting and inspiring book 'THE MAGIC OF THINKING BIG' by David Schwartz I am
sharing my summary of some of the contents of this excellent work (what I
consider to be the main points) in the spirit of encouraging and hopefully even
inspiring those people, who really want to achieve their fullest potentials to
read the book...and THINK BIG in your life, then watch what happens.

                              *
This thought-provoking and uplifting book reveals:

* How to set your goals high ...and then exceed them!

* Discovering the secrets of how your mind works and how to make it work best
for you.

* How to launch yourself to success by using fully the power of the mind.

* How to stand head and shoulders above the others in the crowd (if that's what
you really want).

INTRODUCTION:

Success is such a personal thing meaning different things to every one of us.
And financial success is only one aspect of success. However, I maintain that
financial success is freedom from worry and having CHOICES: to spend your life
(= time) or money, whichever way you want. Here are a few more thoughts on
success...

Don't wish success. Wishing only will not get you there. Really BELIEVE you can
succeed and with a sound plan of ACTION you WILL. We all have some desire and
natural intelligence - every single one of us. It's how we channel these
qualities that determines how successful we will be. Remember most humans use
less than ten percent of their brain capacity. Achievement and experiences are
the goal of life. Any experience is a success; so just GO FOR IT.

Think "big" and you live "BIG" ...in all areas of your life. You will then live
big in happiness, accomplishment, income, friends and respect. All of these are
important; but perhaps self respect is most of all. Believe you are worth little
and you receive little. BELIEVE you can't do things and you WILL NOT be able to
do them.

I think the single most important ingredient to success is BELIEF: in oneself.
Belief keeps us going when everything else points against success. It is the
"thermostat", that regulates what we accomplish in life. If we believe strongly
in what we are doing, the chances of success are greatly magnified.

Always be on the look out for opportunities. Remember every problem is an
opportunity waiting to be discovered. Then convert opportunities into
points/rewards. So harness the power of your belief (which comes from the
amazing powers of the human mind)...and make it work for you.

Also don't forget about the unlimited power of the creative subconscious.
                                    *
HOW TO DEVELOP THE POWER OF BELIEF?

Do what you love, because that's what we do best. Love is the key word. Then you
will love what you do (and I love writing). Also think success at every
opportunity. Don't think purely of the monetary rewards (or the fortune you will
undoubtedly make); because that will come when you are doing what you love
doing. Have a win/win attitude, where every body gains from your endeavours.
Believe implicitly in yourself and in your ultimate goals, no matter how long
and winding the road ahead. On the way you'll have to overcome many setbacks.
It's a long long road to hoe with many obstacles along the way...but it'll be
well worth it in the end.
                                   *
Summary:

1. Set a plan for your own self development and personal growth.
I believe that success is very much a matter of personal development, growing
daily.

2. Cure yourself of EXCUSITIS. Don't make excuses: eg. the economy, the weather,
your finances and especially the government. Avoid saying "I'll do it after the
election, after I've seen the way things go". Accept RESPONSIBILITY for yourself
at all times. At least TRY.

N.B: Always be aware: Responsibility is not blame.
Don't procrastinate...stickability is 95 of the art in getting there in the end.
It is not only ability that counts. It boils down to our ATTITUDE and
PERSISTENCE.

Remember what British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli said:

"Life is too short to be little."

YOU ARE BIGGER THAN YOU THINK.

And most importantly,

BE HAPPY

P.S: Thank you sincerely, David for sharing your insight, words
of wisdom and especially inspiration in encouraging me to "think big" in all
areas of my life.

" I truly believe we can ALL create and enthuse magic into
'so-called humdrum little lives'. You don't just have to be
the choreorapher, or the conductor of your life script -
rather paint your life as the masterpiece it could (one day)
be. There is a rich tapestry of talent in every human soul,
that flows through the spirit of God. So don't spend your
days stringing and tuning your instrument; start making and
playing your unique tunes of music right now."
- craig

"Every man has his own destiny; the only imperative is to follow
it, no matter where it leads him."
- Henry Miller

"Success to others may be apparent in what you DO; but
significance, meaning and purpose lies, then reveals itself
in what you ARE and BECOME down the 'river of life' - how
and the spirit with which you face, then overcome the daily
obstacles, the frequent trials and tribulations along the
often rocky path-way of life's magical and mysterious
journey. Light your path brightly."

"Do not follow the well-beaten track of others towards success -
like the rainbow, it is often an illusion always just beyond
our reach. Make your own path and let your spirit blaze a
brilliant trail towards the pot of gold, the prize for the
gift - one that is uniquely you and YOUR successful journey
down the mysterious and magical river of life."

HOW TO FIND AND LIVE YOUR DREAMS?

"I'd rather attempt something great and fail...
than try nothing and succeed."
- inspiring words from Norman Vincent Peale (US preacher and author)

Author's Note:
This article was largely based upon a most inspiring adress by
Dr Bruce Wilkinson as aired on the excellent TV program, 'The Hour of Power' in
New Zealand on TV3. Though it is quite "religious" (and no matter what the
concept of God, or a Higher Power/ Supreme Being means to you), I have
personalised some of the information and applied the principles to my own life
(with a dash or two of humour), as in this piece.

The Rev Robert Schuller has been a great inspiration and "mentor" to me in
following my personal dream for many years and I'm sharing this piece with the
hope and in the spirit of inspiring other people to follow their personal
dreams. That is my 'mission'... and dream!

craig

                                                          *

What would you do with your life, if you KNEW that you COULD NOT FAIL?

What dream did you carry in your heart when you were a child?

Perhaps it was to be a fireman, a nurse, a policeman, an actor, a footballer,
racing driver, a musician or perhaps even a writer ("oh no"!)... but definitely
NOT an "insurance man"!

What is your soul telling you to aim for in your life TODAY?

I believe that many dreams (big or small) start in prayer - in
close communion with the Source of Life, the One who knows us
best, our Creator, God, the Infinite Spirit of the Universe.
HOW does this happen?

With FAITH and "possibility thinking". And "heaps" of prayer. Prayer changes our
thoughts into another, a higher (loftier) DIMENSION - the SPIRITUAL. It's a
change of CONSCIOUSNESS Another analogy may be like this: Just as we live, work
and play in the "real world", we can also operate a business or touch lives in
another realm, the "world of cyberspace", as I'm hopefully doing in sharing this
article). In moments of meditation and prayer (spiritual awareness) our Higher
Self connects with the divine,
a Force/Being/Spirit far Greater than ourselves - our spirit connects with
Infinite (Divine) Spirit; so that we
draw on an Higher Power with unlimited potential...
the power of God or as Napoleon Hill termed 'Infinite Intelligence'.
And God, Infinite Spirit, a Deity, I believe communicates through the conduit
(medium or channel) of our subconscious minds. My "very analytical scientific"
friend, Andy (a micro-biologist) calls it the " 'God-gate' to Infinite
Intelligence, the Great Designer". We then just have to use our tools of BELIEF
(faith) and ask the right questions. EXPECT an answer to our questions, a
solution to our life problems (even many big ones). TRUST the process, then
leave to 'Invisible Intelligence, Infinite Spirit to work things out for you -
the best way possible to move forward. Just relax and allow the
Universe's Infinite Wisdom to send you the right answers: the Almighty , the
Grand Designer of Life WILL.

"Let go, let God, let good."
*
Here are some good points made by Dr Wilkinson...

* I truly believe that God, the Great Dream Giver, the Ultimate Source, the
Ground of our very Being also has a dream for every life and especially YOUR
life.

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you...
Before you were born, I set you apart." (Jeremiah 1:5)

and the big dreamers are the ones who'll change the world...
so making it a better place for ALL.

* The secret of the dream: you never know how you're going to do it before you
COMMIT to doing it.

* When God gives you a dream in your heart, it is always too big
for you to do...ALONE. So you need a "Partner". It seems overwhelming at first -
impossible, way out of your reach; yet somehow it gets achieved. No, not
achieved...but surpassed.

"The dreams of great dreamers are never achieved; but with God's help are always
transcended - into true miracles...beyond one's wildest dreams."

* Your dream is at the centre of who you really are: It's the 'essence' of who
you are as a person - the core of
your very BEING. The dream of God is the reason for the way you are - it drives
you and gives a sense of meaning and purpose to your
life: to follow your unique destiny.

* The dream is always outside your comfort zone. (I thought mine was impossible,
from where I was ("never in a million years"). However, even our "big-little"
dreams fit perfectly into God's bigger plan, His Grand Dream for the Universe.
So make your dreams big enough for God to fit in.

* When you start out tentatively, don't focus on the fear - focus on the dream.
Then the dream becomes more important than the fear.

* Dreams happen when you accept the fact that the dream is your calling,
something YOU HAVE to do to fulfil you. COMMIT fully to it. Say: "I don't know
HOW I'll do it, but God will give me the way, if I just proceed and follow the
dream. Take that first step in FAITH; then watch what happens.

I have absolutely "zilch" idea where my journey is leading, but in "partnership
with the Ultimate Source" guiding me each step of the way, it's tremendously
exciting, sliding down "the rapids", er sorry, "waterfalls of life".

It's the will of God, our Creator, that we follow our personal
dreams - fulfilling God's dream is what we have been made to do, based on our
skills, talents, gifts and aspirations. In short, our unique personas, who we
are as 'human beans'. It's our unique calling in life: to do what we are
DESTINED to do and it usually involves helping (serving) others, ie. meeting a
human need to help others or make their lives easier or better in some way. I
believe the key is making some contribution to the betterment of humanity.
"All of us can become great, because we can all SERVE."
- Martin Luther King (or was it Mother Teresa??)

CHOOSE to follow your dream; because, if you don't, do you
realise how many people will be affected? Because a dream often
lies in helping someone else's dream, or helping them towards achieving it. It
is God's dream and consequently can never be selfish.

All dreams start in FAITH, but ones faith gets strengthened as you
take one step after the next. Faith really works and it get's stronger
by the day, when you look back and see how far you've come along the path.

Never give up on your unique calling, YOUR dream, Say, "I will UNTIL." Finally ,
when you feel stuck in moving ahead with your dream...once you've done all you
can, SURRENDER your dream to God, the "Ground of All Being, Truth, Goodness and
Joy"..

"Let go, let God, let good."

My dream in sharing this piece is helping others to fulfill their
potentials, their individual dreams through encouragement (and perhaps
upliftment). You can't imagine the more you pursue the dream, the more God, the
Grand Designer of Life, is going to use you in ways you never imagined possible.
We are continually amazed at what we're doing each day...from what started out
as the seed of a vision twelve long years ago (when I had no idea how to turn on
a computer!). Though many times I've faced innumerable obstacles and often felt
stuck, I simply surrendered my dream to God, the Universe. Then I'd get some
insight or somehow the Universe would just move me ahead and open up a path for
the vision. "Co-incidences?" This journey is a true 'miracle' in action, I
believe, that so many people around the globe are involved and helping me
greatly, as one person can't do it alone. (Thanks so much, all of you for your
many skills and gifts that I don't have - you know who you are and also that I'm
a total "non-techno wally"!). Once you embark on God's dream for your life,
watch the way the Universe brings people into your life to help you and to
expand the vision (because you can't do it alone). Also my faith is considerably
strengthened each day, as I see the process DOES work...and one can see how
far you've come from those tentative first steps. I'm greatly
enjoying this most enjoyable and exciting journey, as I follow my personal
dream.

* You're never too old and you're never too young to dream big dreams!

Will you go through life one day regretting that you DARED TO
DREAM?
Will you too surrender to your personal ("impossible") dream?
Absolutely NOTHING is impossible* (I can certainly vouch for that!).

"It's kinda fun to do the impossible."
-anon

"Faith sees the invisible, believes the unbelievable and
receives the impossible."
- Corrie Ten Boom

Always remember,
God's dreams are far bigger than you could have imagined yourself.

Just TRUST God, the Essence of Life, the Ground of Our Being and enjoy the
journey towards your dreams. Absolutely NOTHING is impossible. Just BELIEVE in
your dream.
You CAN do ANYTHING with God's help and your individual journey can be used to
honour the infinite love of our Creator.

So how about doing something about following your passion and pursuing your
dream TODAY?

Lord, fit my "little" dream into Your grand plan for this world

"A man (OOPS, or woman) without a dream is destined never to
fulfill his or her full potential in life. Never give up on
your dream... but take time to smell the flowers on your
very individual journey.' Be yourself and daily count your
blessings; then try to make a difference in the world -
however small. Try to shine your own little ray of sunshine
to make the lives of others easier in some small way.
You can derive the greatest pleasure from treading the
wildest uncertain path down the 'river of life...and just
being you."

one's dream/vision comes to reality through believing in
yourself, making the commitment and then creating it."

How to Live a More Fulfilling Life by Stephen Covey (from Motivational and
Inspirational Books)

  Submitter's Note:
This piece (in point form) was based upon my notes from an interview that Oprah
had with Dr Stephen Covey, author of the 'Seven Habits of Highly Effective
People' some years ago. I am sharing the content in the spirit of encouraging
others to live more fulfilling lives, if that's what you wish.
                                   *

STEPHEN COVEY (author of 'THE SEVEN HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE' and
'FIRST THINGS FIRST':

"The deepest hunger of the human heart is to feel understood."
- Stephen Covey

How to prioritise your life. The book is all about BALANCE and PRIORITISING YOUR
LIFE

Have a mind open to and ready to accept new knowledge.

You have to have something else to BALANCE your life (eg. getting an education)
- in case your dream doesn't materialize for you - in case your plan doesn't
work out for you.

Develop RESPECT (for yourself and others) and work on your sense of SELF WORTH

1. Have a MISSION. Everyone needs a purpose in life. Listen to your heart.

Are you stressed?
Symptoms:
* can't sleep or oversleep

* eat all the time

* you can't seem to focus

* you seem to be powerless in effecting control over your life

* do you feel your life is running away from you?

All these indicate that you are under stress.

MISSION:

Ask yourself the question: What is really important in your life?
"Many people climb to the top of their ladder, only to find that it is leaning
up against the wrong wall."

Everything else in your life affects it. It is something to work towards in your
life. You manage yourself by the values and VISION in your life. What kind of
values and meaning do you want in your life?

Imagine your funeral: There are 4 speakers there.
One from your:
family
friends
community
and
work

What would you like them to say about you? What kind of legacy would you like to
leave the world?
What kind of life do you want to lead?
What are you passionate about?
WHO are you really? What do you stand for?

It's so easy to let THINGS define you. What would you be without your car, job,
etc.

"Nobody on their death bed wished they'd spent more time at the office."

What is the one thing you can do in your life personally right NOW that could
make a difference - personally (as in relationships) and professionally?
Most people know what the answer is (in their hearts); but they are not doing
it. Write it down what it is you really want out of life.
What's stopping you from doing it?

They are driven by what is URGENT, rather than what's IMPORTANT. Do what is
IMPORTANT, rather than what is URGENT.

"We are what we repeatedly do.
Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit."

- Aristoteles, Greek philosopher(384 - 322 BC)

PREPARE and PLAN - so that there is time for other things. Prevention too.

Ask yourself: Where do you want to be? Doing the things that are important to
you. Take time to build it up. Find your sense of integrity: in both
relationships, as well as the community.
Don't waste time on worthless reading, or watching mindless TV programmes.

We all need these areas of our life to be fulfilled:

Health - exercize
Heart - the relationship with the key people in your life
Mind - developing the mind
Spirit/Soul - a sense of integrity, sense of contribution or service.

You can't do right in one area of your life and wrong in another. It's total and
indivisible.

So ensure that you are headed in the right direction. It's not just a matter of
acquiring material possessions, like a new lounge suite, TV, BMW, etc.

There are many dimensions to your life. What is your credo or mission statement?
WHAT IS MY LIFE ALL ABOUT? Doing this is a most rewarding exercise. It provides
a frame of reference and it will provide direction in your life by enabling you
to build on your most important values in life. Doing this can also enhance a
person's sense of self esteem.

"You are always a valuable, worthwhile human being,
not because anybody says so, not because you're successful,
not because you make a lot of money, but because you decide
to believe it and for no other reason."

- Wayne Dyer, American motivational author

                                          *

HOW TO ENRICH YOUR LIFE?:

Is it to perhaps spend more time with your family? Nobody on their death-bed
said they should have spent more time at the office. Most people want more
quality time.
Exercize.

Spend more time on your health and happiness, instead of eating, sleeping and
working.

Spend more time on those people really important to you - wife, 'hubbie' and
family.

One good hint is to learn to say 'no' to people.

DEVELOP YOUR MISSION STATEMENT. Once you have the goal you start working towards
it...because you then know what you're all about.

HAVE A VISION: "Vision is greater than baggage."
"Without a vision, the people perish."
- the Bible

What is your life really about? What is your purpose/your reason for being?

Why are we here?
Don't get distracted from your central mission.
What are the values you want to build upon?
What are we here for?

To:
LIVE - ie. make a living

LEARN - by growing

LOVE

LEAVE A LEGACY - a memory, to make a difference (contribution) through your
life.
Once you have defined your values (from your mission statement), you can then
live a "principle-centered" life.

Whatever you do,

Live your life with INTEGRITY ("to thine own self be true", thanks mom).

Put yourself in line with the principles of the universe.
To do this, first keep your promises to yourself; because without doing that you
cannot have true integrity. So honour your commitment to yourself. The answer is
within YOU. "The kingdom of heaven is within you."

If you can't honour that commitment, first make small promises to yourself, then
KEEP them. Start with small commitments, then make bigger promises. Make it,
keep it, make it, keep it.

Have a "Win Win" attitude towards them. By helping others through service, you
can help yourself even more..

Embrace, cherish and honour the vision for your life... through shining your
unique light, which reflects what your life can be and become.

"The measure of our accomplishments in life is not a measure of time that we
have to do things; but it's a measure of what we do with the talents we have."

"God gives us each day to use as we will. When tomorrow comes this day will be
gone forever, leaving something in its place we have traded for it. The day can
be used for gain, not loss, for good, not evil, for success, not failure. We can
waste time worrying about what might happen or fretting about what did happen.
If we want time, we have to make it."

"Believe in yourself and in your dream,
Though impossible things may seem
Someday, somehow you'll get through
To the goal you have in view.
Mountains fall and seas divide,
Before the one who in his stride
Takes a hard road by day
Sweeping obstacles away
Believe in yourself and in your plan
Say not - I cannot - I can
The prizes of life we fail to win
Because we doubt the power within..."

# Chapter Six: VISIONS AND IDEALS

Columbus cherished a vision of another world, and he discovered it. Copernicus
fostered the vision of a multiplicity of worlds and a wider universe, and he
revealed it. Buddha beheld the vision of a spiritual world of stainless beauty
and perfect peace, and he entered into it.

They do not see the trials and failures and struggles which these men have
voluntarily encountered in order to gain their experience. They have no
knowledge of the sacrifices they have made, of the undaunted efforts they have
put forth, of the faith they have exercised, that they might overcome the
apparently insurmountable, and realize the vision of their heart. They do not
know the darkness and the heartaches; they only see the light and joy, and call
it "luck"; do not see the long and arduous journey, but only behold the pleasant
goal, and call it "good fortune"; do not understand the process, but only
perceive the result, and call it "chance."

"Humanity cannot forget its dreamers. It cannot let their ideals fade and die.
It lives in them."

"He who cherishes a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in his heart, will one day
realize it."

"Cherish your visions. Cherish your ideals. Cherish the music that stirs in your
heart. Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become."

BE A DREAMER!

# Chapter Seven: SERENITY

Wisdom Leads to Peace of Mind

"As man develops a right understanding, and sees more and more clearly the
internal relations of things by the action of cause and effect, he ceases to
fuss and fume and worry and grieve, and remains poised, steadfast, serene. The
more tranquil a man becomes, the greater is his success, his influence, his
power for good. Even the ordinary trader will find his business prosperity
increase as he develops a greater self-control and equanimity, for people will
always prefer to deal with a man whose demeanor is strongly equable."

"The calm man, having learned how to govern himself, knows how to adapt himself
to others; and they, in turn, reverence his spiritual strength, and feel that
they can learn of him and rely upon him. The more tranquil a man becomes, the
greater is his success, his influence, his power for good."

That exquisite poise of character which we call serenity is the flowering of
life, the fruitage of the soul. It is precious as wisdom, more to be desired
than even fine gold.. How insignificant mere money-seeking looks in comparison
with a serene life - a life that dwells in the ocean of Truth, beneath the
waves, beyond the reach of tempests, in the Eternal Calm!

Finally, James Allen shares a powerful call to ACTION... because
("In action is thought made material, ie changed into something physical" - my
good friend, Dr Andy Eastcott, former micro-biologist).

"Keep your hand firmly upon the helm of thought. In the bark of your soul
reclines the commanding Master; He does but sleep; wake Him. Self-control is
strength; Right Thought is mastery; Calmness is power.
Say unto your heart, 'Peace, be still!'"

A SPIRIT OF PEACE and SERENITY TO YOU ALL

Live at peace with yourself
Look for the best in others
and
Be grateful for the wonderful gift of life

Give to others, laugh and have some fun along the way

Walk one step at a time with the light given you and be all that you are capable
of being.

ARTICLE TITLE:
Give A Free Workshop

ARTICLE FOLLOWS:
Free workshops are great for educating consumers about your products or
services. Workshops are hands-on. They evoke participation from the audience and
they allow the audience the opportunity to get a real feel for your product or
service.

Depending on where you live, you may have to pay rental space to host your free
workshop, but if you get a little creative you could lower costs by hosting a
workshop that features several smaller workshops by companies that compliment
your business, not compete for it.

When looking for free places to host your workshop consider your public library,
your local church, your local parks and recreation center, your local adult
education or senior center, and even your local clubs like American Legions. The
important thing is to get everything in writing, including the fact that you are
allowed to sell your merchandise at the end of the workshop and that the
facility will not receive a percentage of the sales and if the facility is to
receive a percentage, the percentage is mentioned in the contract.

So what kind of workshop could you host? Take a look at these ideas:

• Make-up artists can give workshops on how to properly wear make-up. And if
they also have a line of cosmetics to sell, they can explain why certain
products work better on certain skin types.

• Kitchenware consultants can give workshops on how to prepare delicious meals
using products from their company. They can also tailor their workshops for
parents of small children, working parents, singles, seniors, and even microwave
users.

• Authors can give workshops based on the theme of their books. An author of
marriage books could hold workshops to help couples learn to communicate better
with one another. An author of writing books could hold workshops that teach an
aspect of writing. An author of business books could hold workshops that teach
moms how to start home businesses, that teach men how to balance their
businesses around their full-time jobs, etc.

• An inventor can give workshops based on his/her invention. He could
demonstrate how the invention works, what makes it a good product, etc. An
inventor could also hold workshops for wanna-be inventors and explain the pros
and cons of inventing, what makes a good invention, and how to protect one's
invention from theft and scams.

• Personal Chefs can give cooking workshops. Teaching others about your valuable
skills by allowing them to test your recipes and taste your cooking is a great
way to gain clients—even if it's only for the annual Halloween party.

The important thing to remember when hosting free workshops is that you want to
gain something from them—a sale, word-of-mouth advertising, repeat customers,
etc.

Track And Measure Your Advertising, Customer Acquisition Costs, And The Lifetime
Value Of A Customer

Online Marketing for Local Businesses
http://onlinemarketinglocal.com/

As business owners and managers, we need to look at a variety of
numbers to gain a better understanding of our businesses. In this
article, we are going to consider two very important metrics in
business marketing - Cost Of Customer Acquisition and Advertising
ROI (Return On Investment).

One of the most important numbers we need to always be mindful of
is the "Cost of a New Customer" or "Cost of Customer
Acquisition".

Understanding Customer Acquisition Costs

If you are unfamiliar with this concept, let me give you a quick
tutorial on this advertising metric.

===============================================================>

Suppose you run an advertisement in your local newspaper for
your furniture store. Suppose for the sake of this example that
you paid $1000 for your display ad in the newspaper.

Now, suppose your advertising brought 4 new customers into your
store, who bought from you. Suppose also that the average spend
for each customer was $1500.

With the example I am drawing, your $1000 display advertisement
in the newspaper brought in 4 customers who spent a total of
$6000 in your store.

I am going to keep this example simple, so that more people can
keep up with the numbers.

On the basic premise of our example, you generated 4 customers
after an outlay of $1000 in advertising. So your basic Cost Of
Customer Acquisition was $250 per customer.

If your business received fewer customers, from your outlay of
$1000 in advertising, then your Cost Of Customer Acquisition is
more expensive.

But, if your business earned more customers who spent money,
then your Cost Of Customer Acquisition would be much smaller.

===============================================================>

In its simplest form, the Cost Of Customer Acquisition is the
money spent to get the customer to your store divided by the
number of new customers acquired. We will look at this in more
detail, later in this article.

The Best Way To Measure Sales And Marketing Performance

Entrepreneur Magazine in a 1999 article reflected on the Cost Of
Customer Acquisition in the dot com world. The article suggested,
"the cost of new customer acquisition is one of the best ways to
measure sales and marketing performance."

In 1999, the Cost Of Customer Acquisition for the following
companies were:

  * BarnesAndNoble.com - $42

  * Amazon.com - $27.60

  * Priceline - $32.30

  * Beyond.com - $29.30

On the surface, these numbers may seem small. But, Amazon's
Average Sale is in the $17-range! This makes the challenge that
Amazon and other major retailers face fairly transparent. If
these retailers could only count on one purchase from the newly
acquired customer, then these businesses would be losing money by
the truckload.

Fortunately, Amazon continues to perform well in Repeat Business
from a single customer. The following calculations reflect
additional numbers that we business people should also factor
into our Cost Of Acquisition metrics.

The Real Value Of A Customer

Amazon's first-sale may only be $17, but in 1999, Amazon's
Average Sales Per Customer was $116, up $10 from the previous
year. Unfortunately, Amazon isn't very forthcoming with these
numbers, so after two hours research, I was unable to come up
with more up-to-date numbers for you to consider.

The point of mentioning this is that it is important for business
owners and managers to recognize that the Value Of A Customer is
not how much sales revenue is derived from the initial purchase,
but more importantly, from the Lifetime Value Of A Customer.

If we looked at Amazon's Cost Of Customer Acquisition only in
terms of that first sale, then they will be losing money
hand-over-fist. With a Cost Of Acquisition of $27.60 and the
first sale of $17, Amazon could not stay in business long if they
were continuously producing numbers at that level. However, once
you factor in the Lifetime Value Of A Customer, then Amazon is
spending $27.60 to acquire a customer that is worth $116 in sales
for them. Therefore, by measuring the Lifetime Value of a
Customer, Amazon is spending only 24% of their revenue in order
to acquire one customer.

Few businesses invest 24% of their revenue in advertising, but
Amazon hopes that the Lifetime Value of a Customer will
eventually exceed the $116 value, known to have existed in
FY2000.

As the Lifetime Value of a Customer increases, the overall Cost
of Customer Acquisition will fall, as an overall percentage value
of Cost Of Acquisition divided by the Lifetime Value of the
customer.

The Compounding Lifetime Value Of A Customer

If you have a hair-cutting salon and your advertising budget for
one month is $1000, and you get 30 new customers through the
door, who will spend an average of $20 for a hair cut, then your
basic Cost of Customer Acquisition is roughly $33.34 to gain $20
in new sales.

But if only half of your 30 new customers become regular clients,
then you can anticipate 15 of those customers coming to your hair
salon at least once a month for the remainder of the year.
Therefore, the first 15 customers will be worth $20 each, and the
next 15 customers will be worth $240 each over the course of one
year ($20 x 12 months). All told, your first 15 customers will
put $300 in your cash register, and the next 15 customers will
put another $3600 in your cash register.

Thus, in the hair salon example, your $1000 in advertising could
generate new customers that will generate $3900 in new sales.
Once you start to consider the Lifetime Value of a Customer,
within the Cost of Customer Acquisition, then you will realize
that the Cost of Customer Acquisition - although it might be
higher than the initial sale - holds out the possibility and
promise reducing itself as the Lifetime Value of a Customer
increases over time.

As the end of the year winds down, you will be able to see that a
$1000 expenditure was turned into $3900 in new revenue. In
essence, for every dollar you spent on advertising that month,
your return value was $3.90 over the course of one year.

In the second year, if only half of the original 15 regular
customers or roughly 8 people stay with you for the full course
of the second year, then the $1920 in revenue (8 people X $20
each X 12 months) you can expect from those customers could
almost be considered free money. Of course, you will still have
service fulfillment costs, but that second year will give you
nearly $2000 in revenue that you will not have to chase.

Even if half of the customers drop off during the following
calendar years, then a 50% customer attrition rate will allow
you to have customers that could stay with you up to five years.
Calculated against a 50% decrease in customers over each calendar
year, your $1000 investment in advertising may translate into
$7500 in revenues over five years ($3900 + $1920 + $960 + $480 +
$240 = $7500), from the initial investment of $1000 in advertising.

The interesting thing about this scenario is that it is based on
an advertising budget of $1000 ONE TIME. But, most businesses
will continue the advertising process every month in every year.
Therefore, the above example could compound month-after-month.
Every month should bring the same or similar results to your
business for the month and year.

Advertising Is A Process, Not An Event

Many small business owners have a dire misunderstanding of the
nature of advertising and the value to be received from the
advertising.

When business owners or managers fail to track and measure the
new business generated from the advertising, then the business
owners and managers will fail to see that advertising is an
expense that can return huge dividends to the business.

When businesses fail to track and measure advertising successes,
people tend to only see the money leaving the business without
every seeing the reward coming back into the business. As a
result, many business managers will employ advertising for a
short time, then cancel the advertising, under the false belief
that the advertising was not returning value to the business.

When businesses fail to understand the Lifetime Value Of A
Customer, it is hard to appreciate any advertising method that
fails to pay for itself in its first cycle. If Amazon was to only
look at the initial sale generated by a new customer, they would
quickly cancel all of their advertising efforts. Fortunately for
Amazon, its management understands that the initial $17 sale is
not the measure to use to determine the value of Amazon's
advertising efforts. Amazon's management understands that the
true Cost of Customer Acquisition should not be measured by the
initial sale, but by the Lifetime Value of a Customer. In doing
so, Amazon has ensured that it will continue to be one of the
largest and most successful retail outlets on the planet.

When business managers fail to understand the Lifetime Value of a
Customer, it is hard for them to appreciate and understand the
compounding nature of the revenue stream for a business. It is
hard for them to understand that money invested into advertising
today, can deliver huge rewards over the next several years.

A Wake Up Call For Small Business Owners

According to Scott Shane, author of "Illusions of
Entrepreneurship: The Costly Myths that Entrepreneurs, Investors,
and Policy Makers Live By", only 29-in-100 businesses will
remain in business after ten years. That means that a full 71% of
businesses started in any calendar year will be out of business
in only ten years.

It is sad to say, but the reason most businesses fail is that
business owners and managers fail to understand the nature of
advertising, the importance of tracking and measuring advertising
results, the Lifetime Value of a Customer, and the compounding
nature of the revenue stream.

I don't want to see your business on the trash heap of
yesteryear. So, it is my hope that you will take this article as
a wake-up call, as to the importance of advertising and its
potential to lift your business into profits.

Light Bulb Santa Ornaments
By Monica Resinger
http://homemakersjournal.com

Here's a great way to recycle light bulbs! Make a bunch of them to hang on the
tree or give as gifts. This also is a great craft to sit down and do with the
kids.

Supplies:

Burnt out light bulb
small piece of sandpaper
white, flesh or beige, and red acrylic paints
small paintbrush
snow textured paint

1~Start with any size or shape burned out light bulb. Sand it lightly with
sandpaper so the paint will adhere better. Paint the glass with a base coat of
white acrylic paint.

2~Holding the light bulb with the skinnier side up, paint a 1 - 1 1/2" circle in
beige or flesh on the wider part of the bulb for Santa's face.

3~Paint snow textured paint over the white paint.

4~Paint facial features and rosy cheeks on the beige. Tip: The rosy cheeks can
be done with lipstick.

5~Paint the metal portion of the bulb red for Santa's hat.

6~Finish off by glueing a cotton ball on the very top of the hat. Also glue some
stretched cotton around the base of the hat. Hot glue a piece of red ribbon to
hang by.

Two Delicious Thanksgiving Side Dishes
By Monica Resinger
http://homemakersjournal.com

My family goes to my parents' house every Thanksgiving for a wonderful home
cooked dinner by my mom. One of my favorite dishes my mom used to make is Sweet
Potato Casserole. The reason I say `used to' is because each year I ask my mom
what dish I can bring and she now has me bring this and another dish, a salad.

My mom is a teacher's assistant at an elementary school and the Sweet Potato
Casserole was one of the dishes brought to a potluck by another staff member. My
mom loved it so much she got the recipe and we've been having it every
Thanksgiving since. It's more like a dessert than a side dish.

The Cranberry Fruit salad recipe I'm including was also found at a staff potluck
at the school where my mom works. It's sweet-tart, delicious and very easy which
is a big plus at Thanksgiving time! I hope you'll try them on your tables this
year.

Sweet Potato Casserole
Serving Size: 8

Two 16 Oz Cans Sweet Potatoes
1/4 Cup Butter
3/4 Cup Sugar
1/2 Tsp. Salt
2 Eggs
1/2 Cup Milk
1 Tsp. Vanilla

Topping:
1 Cup Brown Sugar
1/4 Cup Butter
2 Tsp. Cinnamon
1/4 Cup Flour

Heat yams & drain. Mash with other ingredients and mix well. Pour into ungreased
9" square glass baking pan. Mix all topping ingredients till crumbly. Spread on
yams then bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

NOTES: May be made the day before and refrigerated before baking.
Happy cooking - Mom

Cranberry Fruit Salad

one 12-oz pkg. fresh cranberries
one 20-oz can pineapple chunks, drained
1 Cup sugar
1 pkg. mini marshmallows
one 12 oz. container whipped topping

Put cranberries into food processor and process until finely chopped; ad sugar
and drained pineapple and process until blended. Put cranberry mixture into a
large bowl and fold in whipped topping and marshmallows.

Giving Homemade Mixes in a Jar
By Monica Resinger
http://homemakersjournal.com

Mixes in a jar are thoughtful and inexpensive gifts to give to anyone for any
occasion. The idea is to layer dry ingredients of a cookie, cake, biscuit,
muffin, beverage or other recipe decoratively in a jar and add directions of how
to complete the recipe. The jar can be a mason jar or a recycled, clean
mayonnaise or other large jar that has a lid and can then be decorated with
fabric, ribbons, paint, etc.

I have seen these jars of mixes sell in retail stores for around $8.00! Imagine
the savings if you were to make your own! A few inexpensive ingredients like
flour, brown sugar, chocolate chips and a jar don't cost very much! Gift
recipients will love receiving a homemade mix from you so they can easily
prepare a treat to enjoy and when they prepare the treat, they'll be thinking of
how thoughtful you are.

Mixes in a jar are excellent for gifts that need to be shipped because you don't
have to worry about baked goods getting smashed or getting stale. A mix will
allow the gift recipient to freshly prepare the treat when it is craved or
needed. They are also great to give to children's teachers, neighbors and
acquaintances because of the ease and money savings involved.

Here is a delicious mix recipe for you to try:

Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie Mix in a Jar

1 cup packed brown sugar
1 1/2 cups packed confectioners' sugar
3/4 cup cocoa
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder and salt. Layer
ingredients in order given in a 1 quart wide mouth canning jar. Clean the inside
of the jar with a dry paper towel after adding the confectioners' sugar and
after adding the cocoa powder. Be sure to pack everything down firmly before
adding the flour mixture, it will be a tight fit. Store in a cool dry place away
from a heat source so condensation and clumping does not occur.
Instructions to attach to Jar:

Peanut Butter Cookies

Empty jar of cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Thoroughly blend mix.
Add:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup creamy peanut butter
1 egg, slightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla.

Mix until completely blended. Shape into walnut sized balls and place 2 inches
apart on a parchment lined baking sheets. Press balls down with a fork. Bake at
350F degrees for 9 to 11 minutes until edges are browned. Cool 5 minutes on
baking sheet then transfer to a cooling rack to finish cooling. Makes 3 dozen
cookies.

                                    *
A Summary of (and extracts from) the classic book 'As a Man Thinketh'
(by James Allen)

  # Chapter One: THOUGHT AND CHARACTER

Man is made or unmade by himself. A man is literally what he thinks, his
character being the complete sum of all his thoughts.

"As a man thinketh in his heart so is he."
- Proverbs

"I am bigger than anything that can happen to me.
All these things, sorrow, misfortune and suffering, are outside my door.
I am in the house and I have the key."
- Charles Fletcher Lummis

ACTION is the blossom of thought
"He that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened"; for only
by patience, practice, and ceaseless importunity can a man enter the Door of the
Temple of Knowledge."

# Chapter Two: THE EFFECT OF THOUGHT ON CIRCUMSTANCES

A man's mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated
or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will,
bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless
weed seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.

Just as a gardener cultivates his plot, keeping it free from weeds, and growing
the flowers and fruits which he requires, so may a man tend the garden of his
mind, weeding out all the wrong, useless, and impure thoughts, and cultivating
toward perfection the flowers and fruits of right, useful, and pure thoughts, By
pursuing this process, a man sooner or later discovers that he is the master
gardener of his soul, the director of his life.

Thought and character are one.

Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results.
Bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results

"You will be what you will to be;
Let failure find its false content
  In that poor word, "environment,"
But spirit scorns it, and is free.

  It masters time, it conquers space;
It cows that boastful trickster, Chance,
  And bids the tyrant Circumstance
Uncrown, and fill a servant's place.

The human Will, that force unseen,
The offspring of a deathless Soul,
Can hew a way to any goal,
  Though walls of granite intervene.

  Be not impatient in delay,
  But wait as one who understands;
  When spirit rises and commands,
The gods are ready to obey."

# Chapter Three: THE EFFECT OF THOUGHT ON HEALTH AND THE BODY

The body is the servant of the mind
It obeys the operations of the mind, whether they be deliberately chosen or
automatically expressed. At the bidding of unlawful thoughts the body sinks
rapidly into disease and decay; at the command of glad and beautiful thoughts it
becomes clothed with youthfulness and beauty.

Disease and health, like circumstances, are rooted in thought.

# Chapter Four: THOUGHT AND PURPOSE

Until thought is linked with PURPOSE there is no intelligent accomplishment.
With the majority the bark of thought is allowed to "drift" upon the ocean of
life. Aimlessness is a vice, and such drifting must not continue for him who
would steer clear of catastrophe and destruction.

They who have no central purpose in their life fall an easy prey to worries,
fears, troubles, and self-pityings, all of which are indications of weakness,
which lead, just as surely as deliberately planned sins (though by a different
route), to failure, unhappiness, and loss, for weakness cannot persist in a
power-evolving universe.

The weakest soul, knowing its own weakness, and believing this truth - that
strength can only be developed by effort and practice, will at once begin to
exert itself, and adding effort to effort, patience to patience, and strength to
strength, will never cease to develop, and will at last grow divinely strong.

Purpose, energy, power to do, and all strong thoughts cease when doubt and fear
creep in.

# Chapter Five: THE THOUGHT FACTOR IN ACHIEVEMENT

A man can only rise, conquer, and achieve by lifting up his thoughts. He can
only remain weak, and abject, and miserable by refusing to lift up his thoughts,
thoughts which he CHOOSES.

All that a man achieves and all that he fails to achieve is the direct result of
his own thoughts.

"He who cherishes a beautiful vision, a lofty ideal in his heart, will one day
realize it."

"Cherish your visions. Cherish your ideals. Cherish the music that stirs in your
heart. Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become."

# Chapter Seven: SERENITY

The calm man, having learned how to govern himself, knows how to adapt himself
to others; and they, in turn, reverence his spiritual strength, and feel that
they can learn of him and rely upon him. The more tranquil a man becomes, the
greater is his success, his influence, his power for good.

Say unto your heart, "Peace, be still!"

BELIEVE, CONCEIVE and RECEIVE

Think good healthy positive thoughts
Do good
Get good.

"Man is made or unmade by himself.
By the right choices he ascends.
As a being of power, intelligence and love,
and the lord of his own thoughts, he holds the key to every situation.
All that we achieve and all that we fail to achieve is the direct result of our
own thoughts."
- James Allen

"Man is mind
and evermore he takes the tool of thought
and, shaping what he wills,
brings forth a thousand joys,
a thousand ills.
He thinks in secret
and it comes to pass -
Environment is but his looking glass."

"The definition of success:
To laugh much; to win respect of intelligent persons and the affections of
children; to earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of
false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to give one's
self; to leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy child, a garden
patch, or a redeemed social condition.; to have played and laughed with
enthusiasm, and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier
because you have lived...
this is to have succeeded."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson????

The Special Person You Were Meant to Be

"If you can value truth above approval, and friendship over power,
wealth, or fame,
If you can share your gifts wisely, leaving someone better off than
when you came,
If you find happiness, simple pleasures, and see the rainbow,
not the falling rain ,
If you have faith to keep on believing in miracles that no one
can explain,
If you live every day to your potential and find the goal in everything
you see,
Then you'll be, not just happy and successful, but the person only you were
meant to be."

"Dare To Believe...

That you are a wonderful unique person.
That you are a once-in-all-history event.
That it's more than a right, it's your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish,
and you'll be able to stay one up on what used to get you down. "
- Author Unknown

"Be all that you are capable of being"

"I believe that God creates us with different gifts; so that in life's journey
each one of us, experiences challenges, things that give us joy and using our
gifts allow us to bless the world around us."

SHARING A FEW THOUGHTS ON THE MOST POWERFUL FORCE IN THE WORLD

"Change can only happen when you change the hearts and minds of those who oppose
you."
- Exiled Chinese Muslim leader Rebiya Kadeer

"Conquering others requires force. Conquering oneself requires strength."
- Lao Tzu; Tao Te Ching

"Love is a force more powerful than bullets."

"Love is the only force that can erase the difference between people or bridge
the chasms of bitterness. In a changing world, it is a constant. It is the
security of the home. It is a beacon of hope in a world of distress."
- Wayne R. Bills, MA

"When the power of love overcomes (or conquers) the love of power, man and the
world will at long last know peace."
- adapted slightly from American musician, Jimi Hendrix

"LOVE goes very far beyond the physical person of the beloved.
It finds its deepest meaning and his spiritual being, his inner self. Whether or
not he is actually present, whether or not he is still alive at all, ceases
somehow to be of importance."
- WW II concentration camp survivor, Viktor E. Frankl (in his book 'Man's Search
for Meaning')

"If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love,
I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge,
and if I have a faith that can move mountains,
but have not love, I am nothing.
If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but
have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not selfseeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no
record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there
are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the
imperfect disappears.
When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned
like a child.
When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror;
then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love."

1 Corinthians 13 (NIV)

Great inspiring words of wisdom

I love the following quote which guides and inspires me daily, so am sharing...

"The moment you have in your heart this extraordinary thing called love and feel
the depth, the delight, the ecstasy of it, you will discover that for you the
world is transformed."
- J. Krishnamurti (thanks, mom)

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in
reality. That is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil
triumphant."
- Martin Luther King, Jr

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive
out hate; only love can do that.
- Martin Luther King, Jr (1929-1968, American Black Leader, Nobel Prize Winner
in 1964)

Through violence you may murder a murderer,
but you can't murder murder.
Through violence you may murder a liar,
but you can't establish truth.
Through violence you may murder a hater,
but you can't murder hate.
Darkness cannot put out darkness.
Only light can do that...

Difficult and painful as it is,
we must walk on in the days ahead with an audacious faith in the future.
When our days become dreary with low-hovering clouds of despair,
and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights,
let us remember that there is a creative force in this universe,
working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil,
a power that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark
yesterdays into bright tomorrows.
Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long,
but it bends toward justice."

- powerful and inspiring words from Dr Martin Luther King, Jr.

"When evil men plot, good men must plan. When evil men burn and bomb, good men
must build and bind. When evil men shout ugly words of hatred, good men must
commit themselves to the glories of love. Where evil men seek to perpetrate an
unjust 'status quo', good men must seek to bring into being a real order of
justice."

- Coretta Scott KIng from 'The Words of Martin Luther King'
(London Collins Found, 1985 - Pg 51)

I am reminded of something Dr Martin Luther King, Jnr said not long before he
was assassinated:

"When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love
has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem
invincible; but in the end, they always fall. Think of it, ALWAYS."

"There is only one thing that has power completely, and that is love. Because
when a man loves, he seeks no power,
and therefore he has power.
Only strive for power, if it is not at the cost of other people.
Power corrupts.
You first have to be pure and righteous, before one can attain power.
I believe that love is a greater force than power."

- Alan Paton, great South African humanitarian and author of the classic 'Cry
the Beloved Country"
Great inspiring words of wisdom!

"The greatness of a nation
consists not so much
in the number of it's people
or the extent of it's territory
as in the extent
and justice of it's compassion."

- Inscription at the Horse Memorial in Port Elizabeth, South Africa for horses
killed in the Anglo-Boer War (1899-1902).

You can't change the past; but you can plan your future.
We, each one of us, can and must do what we CAN do:
to challenge our nation to change from what it is...
to what it could one day become.

"There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer.
There is no disease that enough love will not heal.
No door that enough love will not open.
No gulf that enough love will not bridge.
No wall that enough love will not throw down.
And no sin that enough love will not redeem.
It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble.
How hopeless the outlook. How muddled the tangle. How great the mistake.
A sufficient realisation of love will dissolve it all.
And if you could love enough,
you would be the happiest and most powerful person in the world."
- Emmett Fox

I see only one hope for our very troubled world, and that is when all peoples,
black, brown and white desiring neither power, money nor especially a sense of
self importance, come together to work hard for it with the creative spirit,
that is in every one of us. With economic growth and the creation of jobs,
people feel secure with a sense of well-being...and are happy.

When people act in a spirit of goodness, concern for humanity and especially
utmost integrity, desiring only the good of their countries and so the world,
the world be a far more prosperous and peaceful place - a world at peace with
itself.

"Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light...
and where there is sadness, joy.

I shall pass through this world but once.
Any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show to any human being,
let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again."
- St Francis of Assisi
(thanks for passing on your generous spirit to the world, which lives on,
dearest mom)

Publishing Guidelines:
This article (in point form) has been adapted from (and is a summary of) the
excellent motivational and up-lifting book, the classic 'Think and Grow Rich'
by Napoleon Hill, published by Melvin Powers, Wilshire Book Co Ca. 1966, 1960,
1937).

This article (as with all my articles) may be freely published,
electronically or in print, as long as the source is acknowledged, thanks.

THINK AND GROW RICH (FROM INSPIRATIONAL BOOKS - PART TWO)

  Introduction:
This article (in point form) is extracted from (and a summary of) a most
inspirational book by Napoleon Hill titled 'Think and Grow Rich'
(publisher Melville Powers, US) from notes that I've taken over the years. I am
sharing the contents of this ground-breaking work in this field, together with
additional comments based on my own experiences) in the spirit of encouraging
and hopefully even inspiring those people, who really want to "achieve unlimited
success" to read this 'classic' , fascinating book, apply the principles...then
see what happens!.

Craig has been studying the principles of success (and successful living) and
researching the amazing powers of the human mind
for much of his life and is sharing his insights with the aim of
helping others reach their full potentials in life. That is my reason for
sharing this piece - to encourage others to follow their personal dreams. That
is my dream!

Thank you sincerely, Mr Hill for sharing your words of wisdom ...and in so
doing, in encouraging me to follow my "untrodden path" with passion and reach
for my personal dreams. I WILL UNTIL.
                                  *

STEP 5: IMAGINATION. This is your own "workshop", where you fashion ideas. All
the "breaks" (opportunities) you ever need in life are waiting within your
imagination. Use the amaxing untapped creativity within you to solve any problem
and stimulate your imagination. Ideas are the sources of all fortunes ever made;
they are the products of our imagination. Clerk Asa Chandler spent his life's
savings of $500 on an idea for an ingredient. He supplied (and applied) the
imagination, which turned the "magic" formula into a fortune...which is now the
world wide mega-corporation that is Coca-Cola.

Chandler had a burning desire to make his investment work.
Big achievers have an obsession - they believe so fervently in their idea,
product or service. Ask yourself this important question: What would I do, if I
had a million dollars? A definite purpose results in a definite plan. The finest
tool still needs a man who knows how to use it.

There are many other simple ideas. It doesn't even have to be original - you can
come up with a new combination of them.

STEP 6: ORGANIZED PLANNING
Defeat makes you stronger.
Sell services and ideas.
Leaders and followers. Most great leaders began as followers.

11 secrets of leadership:

1. unwavering courage

2. enlisting the co-operation of others - you can't do it alone. etc (for the
rest see my article on principles of leadership).

Leaders by force: like Napoleon Bonaparte, Mussolini and Hitler. However, this
style of leadership is only temporary; thus it is far better to lead by consent.
Why many leaders fail? An inability to organize details. (My weakness, but
something to work on).

5 ways to get a good job:

Find a job you like to do - one you perhaps even love!

31 ways to fail?

Market yourself.
There is abundance everywhere, opportunity everywhere in the Universe. You just
have to look for it; then you'll find plentiful abundance. The 'capital' lies
within yourself.(in the human imagination). Success requires no explanations;
whilst failure permits no alibis.

7. DECISION: Make quick and definite decisions. Instant decisions make history.
(I change mine quickly and often). Henry Ford persisted in manufacturing the
Model T, the world's ugliest car, when all his advisers were urging him to
change it. For years well-meaning people told me to give up writing and get a
"proper" job (perhaps they were right)!

Opinions are cheap. Geniune wisdom is usually displayed through modesty and
silence.

A great desire for freedom brings freedom (as evidenced in the life of Nelson
Mandela); a great desire for wealth brings wealth. Every powerful man has within
him his own power.

STEP 8: PERSISTENCE.
The magic of "money consciousness". Defeat is a temporary condition - one is
only defeated until a person accepts defeat in their own mind.

Anyone can learn persistence. It's a state of mind which can be cultivated. You
too can learn to be a dog, who won't let go of their bone. Persistance is caused
by (as well as being made up of) these traits:
* definiteness of purpose
* desire (strong)
* self reliance
* definiteness of plans
* accurate knowledge - knowing that your plan or idea is sound
* courage (great)
* will power
* enlisting the co-operation with others. The art of getting other people to
help you in moving towards your goals, desires and dreams. In exchange you can
offer them something.
* habit, ie. developing good habits.

Anyone can criticize. (Far easier than creating). You make your own "breaks"
(opportunities) in life. Thomas A Edison had less than 3 months formal
schooling. As the saying goes: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going."

9. THE INCREDIBLE POWER OF THE HUMAN MIND. Power is essential for success in the
accumulation of money (don't know if I agree with that statement of Mr Hill???).

Use more brains than your own. This is the process of synergy at work, ie 1 + 1
= 3. Henry Ford shot ahead, when he become friendly with Thomas A Edison, Harvey
Firestone, John Burroughs and Luther Burbank. Ford shared his thoughts with them
and asked for their advice and input. His good friends weren't just "sounding
boards to run past" his ideas. (I rely totally on "technogeeks", as I'm a "total
non-techno").

There is a great wealth of knowledge in books like this. Read, think and
meditate as you read. (Take notes of good points, as even small actions imprint
principles in the subconscious mind). PLAN and organize to get rich. Poverty
needs no plan; so staying poor is easy. The energy of the human mind shows
itself to the world in your ENTHUSIASM. It's infectious and is a vital
characteristic of nearly all successful people. So they are excited and
fervently believe in their "pathway of destiny".
They love what they do (do what you love and the money will surely follow).

Happiness is found not merely in possessing; but in doing and especially in
BEING.

craig!)

Publishing Guidelines:
These are some notes I have jotten down over the years; so sharing some thoughts
of "the spiritual journey", which may be incuded in a new "work", "a labour of
love". Just "planting, sowing and watering, some seeds" (not my unkept
garden)... and hope they may be of interest. Enjoy.

These thoughts (as with all my articles) may be freely published, electronically
or in print.

"We share what we know, so that we all may grow."

* INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS:

These notes form part of a new manuscript, which I may name 'A Dummies Guide to
Spirituality: How to Know and Experience God'???

These are some of the notes (in point form) from thoughts and ideas that I've
written down and collected over the years (some from authors and sources
unknown), which may be of interest and get you "tinking" about these
"airey-fairey matters". If you want to replace the word 'God' mentioned so often
with 'Life', that's great! (YOU choose what the concept of God represents to
you). Hope it's not too "heavy heavy" for you and that these thoughts may be
helpful, uplifting and perhaps even inspirational to you in your spiritual
growth. *

SHARING SOME NEW SPIRITUAL "TORTS" (PART THREE): "My Conversations With God"

"The deepest yearning of the human heart is to know God."

Religion is a moral compass for our lives; however religion has no monopoly on
moral values. Religion serves the common good as a "comfort", a "security of
belief(s)".

Spiritual foundations for faith:

* motivates people * gives people energy and strength for moral justice.

Prayer moves the hands that rule the world

Everyone needs four things in life: 1. Something to do 2. A sense of
accomplishment. 3. Someone to love 4. Significance in a life well lived.

"The deeper the valley, the greater the blessing."

We follow a God of extraordinary plans.

Belief in ONE God who exists in three distinct persons (???)

Jesus was a teacher of profound insight into the psychological world and he did
that beautifully 2000 years ago! His faith lives through people.

Make a decision to accept faith.

Faith is not a value - it is a power, a pipeline. Faith is the pipeline, that
delivers God's power. It is by God's grace that we are saved.

Prayer releases God to work miracles.

Faith can make a difference in people's health. Prayer can relieve stress.

"Jesus changes lives and makes people into beautiful persons." - RH Schuller

"Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing."

Courage isn't a gift. It's a decision. YOU are responsible. God gave us the
power of decision-making. We have a choice to be responsible for our lives.

Develop:

* a spirit of resilience - the ability to "bounce back" after severe setbacks

* higher intuition

* passion: Where our passion is, our spiritual gifts are. Purpose + passion =
power

* Self value

"To make a difference, you need to BE different."

South Africa: What makes us different...makes...?

We can either be victims or creators of change

Be sensitive to the needs of others

Activity is not necessarily accomplishment.

BELIEF is the greatest gift that God has given us. Faith is the key.

God meets you where you ARE now!

Transform yourself/the present

The thinking process. ACT differently.

However, we can postpone living by doing too much thinking.

"Do your best and let God do the rest."

"God, the Essence of Life, is the great mystery in the vast unknown; yet He is
understandable."

God is not a "nebulous" power; but can be invited into your life. Doing this
gives you amazing power.

"I am a voiceless voice." * Sow good actions Reap good habits Sow good habits
Reap good character Sow good character Reap a great destiny

Significance is what you do for others.

God will not give to us what will not flow through us, a generosity of spirit'.

God will never tell us to do something that is impossible to do.

God uses ordinary' people, like you and me (IF we LET Him). Will give you
strength, desire and discipline - you just have to ask!

"A dream without a plan is a nightmare."

Hope without a plan is no strategy". Step out in faith

Have patience. The storm will sometime pass.

ALL things are possible

The pipeline exists in every human being. Have faith in tomorrow!

God created us with freedom of choice.

What values will you focus your faith on... ones which will make you a better
person.

How to set goals?

TRY

TRUST

YIELD

"If you don't know where you're going, you're sure to gow nowhere!"

"We grow old because we stop playing."

Get a dream

Have no regrets

GOALS * physical * family goals. Measurable. Make a decision * friends *
finances * spiritual

What unites us is far more important than what divides us.

GIVE This could simply be words of encouragement. Giving is our way of testing
our faith in God (the power of God in our lives).

G generously I intentionally V visually E agerly Then watch what unfolds in the
most unpredictable and amazing ways.

Once you obey God, your problem IS solved, whether you understand it or not!

It's time to start. Begin executing the plan.

Pull down the walls, break through the fear, modify the picture.

Success lies in the journey. Loving faith

When we give generously, blessings of God begin to unfold. Give intentionally.

We are vessels, conduits; God's Spirit flows through us .

Write down the blue-print. The invisible becomes visible.

"Faith without works is dead." - James 2:26

BE everything God called you to be.

Have determination, will, vision.

"Great people are just ordinary people with extraordinary amounts of
determination."

Every good idea has obstacles.

Don't expect perfection.

Craft your future. Give yourself a chance to succeed.

"Without a destination, there is no destiny."

Think BIG enough for God to fit in your plans and dreams. Think BIG enough and
have sufficient faith for God to work miracles in your life. Allow the seed to
grow.

Nothing, absolutely nothing is impossible with God.

God will not give what will not flow through others

* Add value to others (hopefully sharing these "torts" does that) * Help others

Are you a reservoir or a river?

"God show me what I can do today to be a blessing to others." Exhort!

The picture we paint in our minds: Paint the canvas in your mind not in
water-colours, but in oil.

The best-laid plans lie not so much in the accomplishment, but in the journey.
Live one day at a time, one day at a time. NB: Have faith to speak the
truth...always

Remember yesterday. Dream about tomorrow. But live TODAY.

God, Remove my barriers and enlarge my territory. I want a vision for more in my
life. Lord, challenge me to be all that I can one day become.

craig (based upon and inspired by Dr Bruce Wilkinson's 'Prayer for Jabez')

"Sow good actions Reap good habits Sow good habits Reap good character Sow good
character Reap a great destiny."

"The task ahead of you can always be overcome by the power within you...and the
often seemingly difficult or even "impassible") path ahead of you is never as
steep with the great spirit that lies within you."
"Success to others may be apparent in what you DO; but significance, meaning and

of life's magical and mysterious journey. Light your path by shine your own
bright light of hope and love to the world "

"Let the light of your BEING shine brightly; so revealing Who You Really Are. Be
a Bringer of the Light, which emanates from our soul, God, our Creator, the
Source, the Essence of Life (and Ground of our very Being). Therefore, it can do
more than illuminate your own path.YOUR spirit will help makes the lives of
others easier by illuminating others paths. For this light is our humanity, the
spirit of God, truth, wisdom, beauty and especially love...and it lies within
each one of us. Through your actions and your being, let your light, YOUR spirit
truly shine brightly on the world, like the radiance emitted by a candle at
midnight."

Article Marketing Advice: Increasing the Readability of Your Articles

Online Marketing for Local Businesses
http://onlinemarketinglocal.com/

When it comes to writing articles to promote your online
business, it's important to consider more than just your
marketing goals: it's essential that you also focus on writing
articles that people will want to read. In other words, you
don't just want to use words; and you don't want to market and
sell your business directly. Instead, you want to make an effort
to be engaging and influential.

The first tip that will help you to increase the readability of
your articles is to write with the reader's concerns in mind. If
you are unsure of exactly how to do that, you may want to look
into article ghostwriters who understand article marketing and
who only focus on writing articles for Internet audiences. When
you work with article ghostwriters, you can focus more on your
business and know that someone else is working hard on your
behalf to write articles that will be read.

Getting The Best Results From Your Article Marketing Campaigns

Still, if you want to keep article writing within your company,
rather than outsourcing it, here are some tips for getting more
out of your article marketing campaigns:

1. Hook your readers from the start. Article writing is a lot
more effective for marketing your business when people will
actually read the articles. The best thing that you can do is to
catch their interest right away. Your article title will
determine if people will open your article, and the first
paragraph will ensure that people keep reading the article.

2. Avoid the temptation to overwhelm your readers with a lot of
information. Article writing is not about telling the reader
everything that there is to know; it's about sticking with a
central focus and giving your reader an introduction or overview
of the information they want and need to solve their problems. In
an article that probably won't be much more than one thousand
words, you will never be able to tell the reader everything they
need to know to solve a problem, but you can help put your reader
on solid footing for moving forward towards a workable solution.

3. Break up information into digestible chunks. Writing articles
is about expressing some key points. When it comes to writing
articles for the internet, what you are going to find is that
many readers skim rather than read your articles. Using numbered
lists (like this one) will help you to present your information
clearly, and let readers find what they are looking for quickly.
Similarly, if you use bullet lists or break up your text with
subheadings that are in a larger font and bolded, you can be sure
that after reading your article, the article's key points will
be easily recalled.

4. When it comes to article writing, particularly when you are
working to establish yourself as an expert, it's important to
show that you know what you're talking about. A great way of
doing that - and to break up the text of your article - is to
include quotes from more established experts. If you are writing
articles and are more established, you too should quote other
sources, possible letting the readers know why you disagree with
another writer.

5. Focus on spelling and grammar. Just as someone who is hiring
article ghostwriters should take the time to find ghost writing
services that are well versed in your point of view, it's also
important to be sure that you're writing in the native language
of your target audience. American English is different from that
spoken and written in England and India. Paying attention to your
spelling and grammar shows that you care about what you are
saying and that you are a professional.

A good example of the difference between the usage rules in
British English and American English is the story of Paul
Marshall from Dallas, Texas. When Paul was running his mortgage
business, he had hired some Indian writers to develop content for
his website. When he received the copy from his ghostwriters, the
copy used the word "mortgage scheme" in the text eleven times.
Paul was pissed, as you might well imagine. In British English,
"scheme" does not carry any negative connotation. Yet, as you
may well realize, "scheme" in American English is one of the
most negative words that can be applied to any business model. It
denotes "dishonesty" and "fraud" in American English. His
Indian writers could not understand his anger with their choice
of words, but you can understand his anger.

Professionalism In The Article Writing Process

Professionalism, unfortunately, is frequently overlooked when it
comes to article writing. Great writing flows, not just for the
writer whose aim is to get the words and message out, but also
for the readers who are consuming the information.

Because of this, one key element of an effective article is not
the writing itself: it is the readability of that article. Take
the time to look at the articles that grab your attention and jot
a few notes about each of them. Specifically, focus on the
following:

  * How did the writer grab your attention (or, if you weren't
interested in the first paragraph, what turned you off?

  * What sort of spacing did the writer use in the article?

  * What did you come away with after reading the article? In
other words, what were the key points of the article?

Writing articles is neither purely science nor purely art – at
its best; it is a good combination of the two. A great article
focuses on a key issue, isn't stuffed with keywords (you do want
search engines to find the article, but too many keywords in an
article takes away from readability), and is as easy to skim, as
it is to read.

When all is said and done, an article that gets read in its
entirety will carry the reader to the Author's Bio at the end of
the article. Ideally, the reader will read the entire article and
feel a desire to visit the author's website to learn more about
the writer of the article. It is article marketing at its best,
when the reader likes the article enough to click on the link in
the Author's Bio and visit the author's website to learn more
about what the author is offering.

Starting a business is always a tremendous undertaking. It is the
most stressful undertaking a person could ever attempt to do.
Most new business owners fail to understand that running a
business is a complex operation, which will require the business
owner/manager to pull many hat tricks to stay afloat.

As the stress of the business grows, many new small business
owners find themselves completely overwhelmed by all of the work
required to keep their new business afloat.

Much of the strain of establishing and running a business is
centered on successfully juggling the finances. When working as
the head of a corporation or as a sole proprietor, every decision
made will affect the future of the business. Having a means of
relief in place in the event that a wrong decision is made can
often mean the difference between success and failure of the
business. When a bad financial decision creates a situation where
payroll cannot be met on time, a business can quickly find itself
without staff to continue operations.

Business Credit Cards For New Businesses

In many cases, start-up companies seek out a loan at the
beginning of their business. For business owners who are not
comfortable taking out a large loan, there are other options that
can be considered as an alternative.

A credit card designed specifically for business is an option
many companies will choose to pursue. This is just like a
traditional credit card, but it also provides a variety of
business directed incentives.

Credit card companies generally offer low interest rates to
attract new business enterprises. While the credit history of the
owner of a small business is going to be considered in factoring
how much credit a company can receive, other factors are
considered to carry greater significance.

The business plan and financial projections of a new company are
going to be the most important categories available for banks to
examine. Lenders and credit givers are fundamentally interested
in learning about your projected financial expectations.

For companies that have been around for awhile, an in-depth look
at its financial history and business projections are going to be
the most vital pieces of information a credit card company will
want to know.

A business credit card provider is going to be most concerned
with the stability of the company. Some banks are so concerned
about the stability of a business that they will not risk the
investment of offering any type of credit to a start-up company,
even if that company has a checking account at their bank, until
the company has maintained their business checking account for at
least one year.

This is by no means meant to discourage a business owner from
pursuing business financing. Instead, it is simply an observation
of the difficulties that many business owners face when trying to
establish business credit. Each bank has their own policies on
business credit cards, and some banks will prefer to be more
cautious than other banks.

The Pitfalls and Advantages of Business Credit Cards

As with any credit card, the most common pitfall of owning a
credit card is the potential to overspend. It is always best to
limit the amount of money that is charged on a credit card,
whether in personal finances or business finances. Business
start-up costs can be astronomical. There are also times when a
company needs a few extra dollars to keep their utilities from
being disconnected. If someone is not careful, they can easily
charge their way into a deep pit of debt that could ultimately
destroy their business.

The truth is that cash flow is always a problem for new
businesses. Small business credit cards can make it possible for
a business owner to pay all of their bills on time. The danger,
of using credit cards to maintain a business' cash flow, is when
the owner is in a state of denial about the true health of his or
her company. Unfortunately, some business owners become dependant
on their line of credit and use it to prop up a business cycle
that cannot sustain itself, ultimately leading to financial
disaster.

On the other hand, acquiring a business credit card could also be
one of the best decisions an owner could make towards the
long-term stability of his or her business. When a business owner
has access to additional funds to float his or her business
during a short window of cash flow problems, that extra money
could be just enough to keep the business alive to continue
operations. An example of such a situation could be when the
company's bank intends to hold a deposited check until after the
next payroll date. It is one thing for an owner to decide they
can wait a few more days to be paid, but it is quite another
thing altogether to ask a company's employees to wait five days
to be paid their wages.

Being able to access the financial means to keep a business
steady and on sure footing can provide a terrific sense of
security to the business owner.

The time when a credit card becomes especially handy to the
business owner is when tax time comes; a business credit card can
be a true asset. No one is better at finding accounting flaws
than our federal government, and almost every new business is
going to be audited in their first year.

If a company's transactions are all done with a business credit
card, then the company will have a permanent record of all of
their business transactions. Having documentation of all of your
expenses is vital, when dealing with the IRS.

The most important thing that a small business credit card can do
is to provide you with the means to establish a reputable credit
history with banks and lending institutions, so the business can
gain access to higher credit lines than what the typical start-up
company is afforded.

Inspiring Examples

One of the most successful cases of a small business succeeding
by the use of a business credit card can be found with Google.
Some would argue that Google is the most successful search engine
on the Internet. It has become such a phenomenon that the company
name has morphed in to a verb for all online searches.

It is amazing to think that it all began in a dorm room. Its next
home was in a garage. Eventually the founders of Google, Brin and
Page, realized they needed larger equipment. They bought all of
their new equipment on credit cards, because banks were not
interested in lending money to a small dot-com company.

Over 380 million people in over 35 different languages regularly
use Google to enhance their online experience. All of this
success was made possible by the start-up funds provided to the
Google founders by credit cards.

In Conclusion

Business credit cards can mean salvation for a fledgling company.
Having the resources to maintain your companies financial
stability can make any business owner more confident with in
their decision.

A good line of credit for your business can also lead to
countless openings for future growth. Establishing a strong and
steady financial history can be the perfect asset in finding
interested investors and development opportunities, when it is
time to reach out for a bigger line of credit.

For those small business owners who know how to utilize the
credit system to grow their business, the future may be greatly
enhanced. For those business owners who start their journey with
credit cards, the climb to greater credit availability is made
that much easier.

Volatile Organic Compound Levels In The Home

Volatile organic compound also known as VOCs are common indoor
pollutants composed of organic chemicals that evaporate into the
air easily at room temperatures. VOCs often cause chemical odors,
respiratory irritation, headache, and other indoor air quality
related complaints. At certain high levels they can be dangerous.

These chemicals are released by paints, paint thinners, varnish,
new carpets, new cabinets and furniture that contains particle
board, household cleaners and air fresheners, gasoline,
improperly vented combustion devices, photocopier machines,
blueprint machines, and many other sources. All buildings contain
some level of volatile organic compounds, determining what are
normal levels and what are elevated levels is important in
diagnosing a buildings indoor air quality. The following
information gives some idea of what are normal and what are
elevated VOC levels.

Global consensus has resulted in the emergence of preliminary
guidelines or tVOC standards for IAQ (Australian NHMRC, 1993;
Finnish society of IAQ, 1995: Seifert, 1999: Hong Kong EPA, 1999;
Japan MoH, 2000).

Depending on Location (home, school, etc. ), recommended levels
range from 200 to 1300 ug/m3 or about 50 to 325 ppb or .05 to
.325 ppm (Toluene units) or approximately 100 to 650 ppb .1 to
.650 ppm isobutylene units.

By all accounts the IAQ tVOC threshold for normal environments
should not exceed 500 ppb (0.5 ppm) Toluene units, which is
equivalent to 1000 ppb (1ppm) isobutylene units.

Field experience suggests the following guide for the use of PIDs
to assess indoor environments:

Less than 100 ppb or (.1ppm) isobutylene units: normal outdoor
air

100-400 ppb or (.1-.4ppm) isobutylene units normal indoor air

500 + ppb or (.5ppm) + isobutylene units: indicates potential of
IAQ contaminants

Reference RAE Systems Application Note AP-212

In summary the above states that the general consensus among most
experts is that recommended indoor levels of total volatile
organic compounds is .1 to .6 ppm isobutylene units.

Indoor levels above .5ppm isobutylene units indicates potential
contamination and levels should not exceed 1ppm isobutylene
units.

Please keep in mind that the above applies to homes offices and
schools etc. Exposure limits allowed in industrial settings will
be much higher.

Publishing Guidelines:
This article (in point form) has been adapted from (and is a summary of) the
excellent motivational and up-lifting book, the classic 'Think and Grow Rich' by
Napoleon Hill, published by Melvin Powers, Wilshire Book Co Ca. 1966, 1960,
1937).

Submitter's Note:
Craig has been studying the principles of success (and successful living) and
researching the amazing powers of the human mind
for much of his life and is sharing his insights with the aim of
helping others to reach their full potentials in life. That is my reason for
sharing this piece - to encourage others to follow their personal dreams. This
article (as with all my articles) may be freely published,

'THINK AND GROW RICH' (FROM INSPIRATIONAL BOOKS - PART THREE)

by Napoleon Hill

SEX:

A great subject to start Part Three...

Have a good mate. Behind every great man is a great woman - Josephine inspired
Napoleon. "A man's wife may either make him, or break him."

Men seldom reach the ability to create before age 40. The average man (or woman)
has the greatest capacity to create between the ages of forty and sixty (still a
little way for me to go then!). Only YOU can lead yourself to genius by
voluntary self-effort.

Man's greatest motivating force is to please woman...and usually they see it as
impressing them with money, or the accumulation of money. (If you want to please
women, don't then choose to be or become a writer!).

What's the definition of an aspiring author?
A waiter!
Sorry, all waiters!

11. TOWARDS RICHES: THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND.
Like a sleeping giant, it can bring you anything you want in life.

How to Harness your Positive Emotions:

* the 7 major positive emotions
* the 7 major negative emotions (to be avoided).

Always bear this important point in mind...
Positive and negative emotions cannot occupy the mind at the same time. Use the
technique of "thought-stopping" to stop negative thoughts from "nesting" in your
head. Just replace with a positive one. Simple!

Use the tool of PRAYER to draw on a Higher Power (unlimited).
A man is as big as the measure of his thinking.

12. THE BRAIN
All of us are controlled by forces which are intangible and unseen. Most people
wish for riches; yet few of us provide the definite plan and the burning desire
which pave the road to wealth.

13. TOWARDS RICHES: YOUR SIXTH SENSE.This tells you about opportunities
available to you.
"The ladder of success is never crowded at the top."

THE SIX GHOSTS OF FEAR:
Fear is nothing more than a state of mind.
6 basic fears (in order of how common they are):

1. Poverty
2. Criticism
3. Ill health
4. Lost love: The symptom of this is jealousy
5. Old age: Do you often think about dying?
and
6. Death

Every human being has the ability to control their own mind. Analyse your fear.
All these fears rob us of our initiave; they stop us using the amazing powers of
our imagination. Accept your fears. Don't be susceptible to negative influences.
Do you use alibis ("if only").
Fears are common and some of them are justified. Others can take root without
you even knowing it. The most valuable treasure of all good health is achieved,
when you conquer fear and banish worry...and the illness it can bring.
"A fearless man thrives on far horizons."

We become what we think about most often.
Then why aren't I a woman, craig?
                                  *
Summary:
A few short points to summarise...
FOCUS your efforts and energies into what your really want, your desires.

"Don't spend your days climbing the ladder of success, only to find it leaning
against the wrong building."

Aim for CLARITY in your thinking. KNOW what you want to do.

"When you create clarity in your desires, you set out with an intention. When
you move that intention forward each day you create momentum. Every small action
I take each day over a sustained period just builds up, like a giant ball of
snow rolling down a mountainside."
- anon

We become what we think about most often. The reason? Our thoughts create our
experience of reality.

Control your thoughts...
and you control your mind.
Control your mind... and you control your future, your life.

ARTICLE TITLE:
Get Ready To Buy Your Home

ARTICLE FOLLOWS:
Have you dreamed of owning a home of your own, but just haven't been able to put
enough into savings for that dreaded down payment? Do you worry that you'll find
the dream home of choice, only to be told your credit score isn't good enough
for a home loan or that you have far too much debt? Do you fear that once you
get into your home you will lose it because it's "more" than you thought you
could afford? Then this post is for you!

Many people think the first step towards buying their home is to determine
exactly what type of home they want, what area they want to live in, and then,
of course, checking out the schools, crime rates, etc. Those are all great
things to consider when buying a home, but that's not the first place you should
start.

When preparing to buy a home, you must consider your financial status. If your
finances aren't in order, it won't matter what the house or the neighborhood
looks like because the lender isn't going to give you the money to buy it. So
where do you start—financially speaking that is?

Step One: Gather Your Bills

The best place to start is with a spreadsheet. Write down how much money you
have coming in every month—child support, disability income, salary,
investments, etc. Next, write down your expenses. How much money do you pay out
everything month?

• What credit card companies do you owe money to and how much?
• What is the interest rate, the balance, and the available credit on those
cards?
• What do you pay out every month for medical expenses: insurance premiums,
co-pays, medications, doctor visits?
• How much are your monthly utilities: gas, electricity, water, sewer, trash and
do you struggle to pay them monthly?
• Do you have a car, boat, or luxury vehicle payment and how much is it per
month?
• What is the interest rate and balance owed on those vehicles?
• How much do you pay out monthly towards groceries, school lunches, and work
lunches?
• Do you pay for cleaning of work clothes or union dues?
• Are there any other re-occurring expenses that come up every month, not listed
above? What are they? Can they be terminated now or must you fulfill a contract?
• How much money do you spend monthly on extras like manicures, hair cuts,
clothing, massages, or fun?
• How much money do you put away for emergencies or retirement each month and
how much do you currently have in those accounts?
• Do you owe anyone money that isn't reported on your credit report? A personal
loan from a family member, perhaps? How much do you owe, when is the money due,
and if you make payments, how much per month?
• Do you have any outstanding student loans? How much longer until you pay them
off? What do you owe, what is the interest rate, and what must you pay each
month?

Once you have an idea of what you make and what you pay out each month, you'll
be able to determine how much money you have left at the end of the month to
help you afford that house. Keep in mind that once you own a home, you'll also
have to take care of any repairs to the home, so having extra money each month
to put into savings is a huge benefit.

Step Two: Get Your Credit Report

Your credit report plays a huge part in determining whether or not you will get
a home loan, therefore, it's vital that you get a copy of your credit report
from all three reporting agencies (www.equifax.com, www.experian.com,
www.transunion.com) before you apply for a home loan.

Once you receive a copy of your credit report, check it over for accuracy.

• Is there something on there that isn't yours?
• Does it show you still owing on an account that was paid off last month, last
year, or five years ago?
• Does it accurately show how much you owe on each account and how much credit
is left to be used?
• Is your work history correct?
• Is your name spelled correctly and does it list your married name and not your
maiden name?
• Is your social security number correct and do they only have one listed?
• Is there anything on your credit report that could negatively affect your
credit score? (i.e. bankruptcy and late payments)

Once you've determined all the inaccuracies on your credit report, contact each
agency to have those inaccuracies fixed. You'll have to write a formal
complaint, listing each inaccuracy in detail and providing proof that accounts
were, indeed, paid in full. Once the credit reporting agency receives your
complaint, they'll investigate. If they cannot get something cleared up on their
end, you may need to seek the help of a competent attorney. But more often than
not, you can clear up mistakes with a few back and forth letters to the agency
and the company in question.

You can get a free copy of your credit report, once per year by visiting Annual
Credit Report (https://www.annualcreditreport.com).

Step Three: Clear Up Your Credit

Besides getting your credit report cleared up, you need to clear up your
outstanding debt. While you don't necessarily have to pay off all your debt in
order to get a home loan, you do need to make sure you have a good handle on
your debt.

Say No To Pay Day Loans
If you have a habit of using Payday Loan services, stop. Having those accounts
on your credit report can cause red flags. Payday Loan services are usually for
those who've overextended themselves and need help getting out of financial
jams. That could imply, to potential lenders, that you are living way beyond
your means.

Stop Charging
Lending institutions use your credit score to determine how much money they are
willing to lend you, which ultimately means how much house you can buy. And they
rely on FICO scores to do it. In other words, the higher your FICO score, the
less of a financial risk you appear to be. So while you can keep your credit
cards open, the more available credit on those accounts the better. To learn
more about how FICO scores work, get the free e-book at MyFico.com.

Don't Consolidate Bills
While it may be tempting to consolidate your bills by opening up a new account
and transferring your old credit cards or loans to the new account, think twice.
Sometimes it could do more harm than good. Speak to your lender before making
such a decision. And in the meantime, don't open up any new charge accounts and
don't purchase any new big ticketed items until after you've closed on your new
home.

Step Four: Start Saving

A savings account looks really good to lenders so start putting some money away.
Save for those rainy days so you don't have to rely on your credit cards. Save
for moving expenses. Save for emergencies. Save for those big ticketed items.
Save for home repairs and renovations; just start saving.

By putting these four steps into action, you're well on your way to purchasing
your very first home, or upgrading to your dream home!

Inland Alaska: The Wildest Place in America
By Roy Whitman © 2009, All Rights Reserved

"Unspoiled." "Untouched." "Wilderness." These are just a few
of the words that accurately describe the state of Alaska. While
Alaska cruises are one excellent way to see much of what this
amazing region has to offer, they typically don't do justice to
the magnitude of nature found here. It takes venturing inland to
unlock the magic that is truly Alaska.

A full 15 percent of this state is legally designated as
wilderness areas. And, because the citizens of Alaska reside
primarily in a few compact cities, much of the state is occupied
solely by wildlife. It's not desolate; it's natural, filled with
intriguing animals of all sorts that live freely in this rugged
landscape.

Denali National Park

Denali means "Great One," and the name fits! Home of Mt.
McKinley, the highest peak in North America, this giant stretches
over 20,000 feet into the sky. But this isn't the only great
sight in the park. Equally as impressive are the glacial
landscape and the "Big Five" wildlife inhabitants: grizzly bears,
caribou, wolves, Dall sheep and moose.

This park is truly "organic" in that it has been maintained to
serve its original residents: the animals. One road moves
vehicle traffic in and out of the park to preserve order. Look
around. Take a deep breath. "Back to nature" has never been a
more appropriate saying than when you're standing in the midst of
Denali National Park.

Kluane National Park

One of the largest international land preserves on earth, Kluane
National Park has been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A
frozen tundra; Kluane boasts the highest mountain in Canada - Mt.
Logan - as well as some of the largest and thickest glaciers in
the world.

With rivers of ice, vast ice fields and massive glaciers, Kluane
is typically blanketed with a solid layer of frozen water
including glaciers that are up to one mile thick. It is truly
like walking into a land before time.

Alaska Railroad

Cruise ships are the best way to visit numerous destinations
however, they have one drawback. They do require water in order
to operate. Since inland Alaska is far from the ocean's shore,
you'll simply need to transfer to another delightful form of
transportation: The Alaska Railroad.

Reaching from Seward to Fairbanks, you'll enjoy the view of
incredible scenery as you gaze through large picture windows.
This form of luxury rail travel is complete with dining car,
viewing deck, upper-level dome area, restrooms and comfortable
seating.

With multiple tours with varying prices, it's easy to escape to
the inland areas of Alaska that you would have otherwise missed.

When you're planning your next Alaska tour, look for cruise
lines that offer inland Alaska excursions. You'll experience the
wonder and excitement only discovered by those who venture into

Google Is More Than Just a Search Engine
By Sharon Housley

The architects of the most powerful search engine in the world have included
some really handy algorithms in their service, which allow searchers to quickly
locate particular and specific types of information...

1. Definitions
In order to quickly find the definition of a word, simply type "define: word" in
the search box. Google will then provide the definition of the word.

2. Area Codes
Enter a US telephone area code in the URL box to see a map of the area covered
by that telephone area code.

3. Calculator
Type a math problem into the Google search box, and Google will calculate the
answer. Google acts as a calculator when mathematical calculation is presented.
Google recognizes the following mathematical symbols: addition (+), subtraction
(-), multiplication (*), division (/), to the power of (^), and square root of a
number (sqrt).

4. Movies
In order to locate reviews and show times for movies playing near you, type
"movies" or the name of a current film into the Google search box. If you have
already saved your location on a previous search, or if you are logged into a
Google account, the top search result will display show times for nearby
theaters for the movie you entered.

5. Weather
To see the weather for many US and worldwide cities, type "weather" followed by
the city and state, US zipcode, or city and country. Google will provide a
current weather forecast.

6. Current Time
To see the current time in any city around the world, type "time" and the name
of the city. Google will display the current time for that city.

7. Patent Search
To search for US patents, enter the word "patent" into the Google search box,
followed by the patent number. Google will display the details of that
particular patent.

8. Track Shipments
Shipments can easily be tracked using Google simply by entering the tracking
number for your UPS, FedEx, or USPS package directly into the Google search box.
Google will return the tracking results and status of the shipment.

9. Stock Quotes
Google can help investors keep an eye on the changing stock market. To see
current market data for a given company or fund, simply type the ticker symbol
into the Google search box. The resulting webpage displays financial data from
the Google Finance service.

10. Maps
Looking for a map? Type in the name or US zipcode for a location, along with the
word "map" and Google will display a map of that location.

11. Convert Currency
Google also has a built-in currency converter. Simply enter the conversion you
would like to see performed in the Google search box, and Google will provide
the currency conversion.

12. Flight Status
To view the flight status for arriving and departing US airline flights, enter
the name of the airline and the flight number into the Google search box.
Airport delays and details can be found by typing in the name of the city or
three-letter airport code, followed by the word "airport".

13. Synonyms
If you want to locate search results for a word, along with any synonyms for the
word, just enter the tilde sign (~) before the search term. Google will display
results for that word and will include any related synonyms.

14. Population
To see trends for population and unemployment rates of US states and counties,
type "population" or "unemployment rate" followed by a state or county. You can
click through to a page that lets you compare different locations.

15. Spell Check
Google even has a built-in spell-checker. Google automatically checks whether
your query uses the most common spelling of a given word. If Google thinks there
may be an alternate or better spelling, it will be listed as: ?Did you mean:
(alternate spelling)??

16. Conversion Calculator
You can use Google to convert units of measurement. Google will convert height,
weight, and volume measurements. Simply enter the desired conversion into the
search box and Google will calculate the conversion.

17. Earthquake Activity
Google even tracks earthquake activity. Enter "earthquake" followed by the city
and state or US zipcode into the Google search box to see the seismic activity
in a specific region.

18. Related Websites
Google will display webpages that contain similar content. Include "related:"
followed by a website address in the Google search box for a listing of related
websites.

19. Linked Websites
When "link:" is used in the Google search box, and followed by a URL, the search
results will include a listing of all webpages indexed by the search engine
which contain links to the specified URL (i.e. to see how many websites are
linking back to your site, or to a competitor's site).

20. Indexed Pages
When "site:" is entered in the Google search box, followed by a domain name, the
search engine locates all documents within a specific domain, including all of
its sub-domains. This is an easy way to get a rough idea of the number of pages
indexed for a given domain.

True to Google's mission of making sense of information, Google has made
specific and unique information very easy to find.

We hope that the following article (some notes in point form extracted from one
of Craig's first manuscripts on sport psychology 'The Winning Mind' *, together

'Endless Possibilities, Far and Grand Horizons') may be informative and helpful

What does it take to get to the very top...in sport and in life?

Firstly and most importantly,

# TALENT: Work on what you are good at and what makes you "special"... and
everyone has a unique gift(s). (Thank goodness we are all different!)
Ask yourself: "What comes easily to me?"

# PASSION: It's a matter of loving what you do. You do it, even if there's no
money, no recogniton and glory is/was involved.... initially.
What motivates you, what presses your "hot buttons"

"Do what you love... and the money will surely follow."

# VISION: From an early age, these exceptional achievers had a dream, a mission
for their lives.
Many champions had a childhood dream, to be a fireman, a nurse, a writer...or
even a racing driver!

# CHARACTER: graft, dedication + commitment to sustain you on the long difficult
journey to the very top of your field. No doubt the top racing driver has had to
make many sacrifices, financial, emotional and in relationships, to achieve what
they have done.

# DESIRE (great)
The competitive fire of "pure racers" like Canadian Gilles Villeneuve,. who gave
his all with his 'rage to win'."

"Gilles has a rage to win, more than any other driver." *
- former legendary Ferrari chief engineer, Mauro Forghieri

# FOCUS and CLARITY OF PURPOSE: A single-minded pursuit of one's goal, steadily
and persisently striving for the very "top of the tree"... even though it may
take years and years.
"The road to success is littered with failure."

# WORK is a "four-letter word"! Putting in the "hard graft" takes a lot of
effort and involves many sacrifices on the path to the very top..

# CHALLENGE: Champions love a 'sense of challenge' - to overcome huge obstacles,
Even from an early age they wanted to test themselves against others; so
constantly challenge themselves (and their competitors). To achieve the
"seemingly impossible" on the way to the very top.

"Failure is only final, if it is permanently accepted as being so.
Success means trying once again and picking yourself off the canvas."
- craig

# PERSISTENCE

# CONTROL:
It's a "head game" in displaying your skills and abilities.
that of:
* power
* precision
* accuracy
and
self control.*

# PREPARATION
They put in the immense effort and necessary sacrifices preparing for the long
hard road to ultimate success

# CONFIDENCE (unshakable) Champions are bold and take "calculated risks" in
testing their own limits to the absolute fullest.

"Villeneuve is a champion and a guy cannot be a champion if he doesn't risk and
Villeneuve is risking, because he has what it takes. So we're not going to drop
him from the team." *
- Enzo Ferrari

"He knew what his own limits were. Those limits happened to be different from
the average driver and Gilles was prepared to use those limits more often." *
- Villeneuve's good friend, Ray Wardell

# INTELLIGENCE

COURAGE... to succeed in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Talent
on its own is not usually enough to reach the pinacle of success!).

"The man had guts, skill and intelligence. His courage was far beyond normal
standards. I'm not fearless at all; Gilles was." *
- Fellow racing driver, Keke Rosberg (and father of current Williams Grand Prix
driver, Nico)

* from GILLES VILLENEUVE: The Life of the Legendary Racing Driver by Gerald
Donaldson (published by Motor Racing Publications, UK 1989)

Which leads to...

# The ability to handle PRESSURE: Self control and a strong mind.
"I began to free myself from the mental brakes and shackles that restricted my
thoughts."
- Five time World champion Moto GP rider, Valentino Rossi on leaving the
all-conquering Honda team for Yamaha

# The ability to THINK POSITIVELY: to remain positive in spite of seemingly
insurmountable obstacles.

# This is sourced from ones sense of SELF BELIEF.

# EGO: Grand Prix drivers have strong egos (often perceived as arrogance), being
happy being "different" to us 'mere mortals'. They accept their individuality,
being happy "just being themselves".

# THE WILL TO WIN: Grand Prix drivers, like all top athletes are driven by an
almost pathological need to succeed.
Their confidence in their abilities is absolute. This is not necessarily
arrogance; but a competitive edge... to be the very best at their chosen fields.

"I don't want to live a balanced life, I just want to win." *
- Mario Andretti (1978 Formula One World Champion)

* or words to that effect

"Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing."
- Vince Lombardi, Legendary Gree Bay Packer football coach
( I think US driver, Bobby Unser said much the same words).

SUMMARY

The qualities of a champion are:

* talent

* discipline

* determination

* desperation (they have the "killer instinct" to come out on top)

* dedication

* durability: The greatest sportsmen and women are those who've been able to
replicate success year after year, ie consistently.
and finally and most importantly,

* the will to win

Whilst each of these elements above need to be present (in various dosages in
drivers), these character traits are all inter-related. So ALL the 'ingredients'
have to work in true harmony to reach the very top and so cultivate a true
champion.

And each ONE of us can all learn from these champion drivers*, like Stirling
Moss, Jim Clark, Ronnie Peterson, Gilles Vileneuve, Ayrton Senna, Michael
Schumacher... and of course, Lewis Hamilton.

If YOU set your heart on it, YOU too can became a champion!

Reach for the stars and discover the champion of life in YOU.

Craig Lock ("Information and Inspiration Distributer + motor racing fanatic")

"Champions aren't made in the gym. Champions are
made from something they have deep inside them -
an inner flame that burns brightly...with purpose, desire and passion.
True champions live the dream, the vision of who and what
they can one day become.... even a long time before it happens."
- craig

"Our talents are our gifts from God...
but what we do with our talents are our gifts TO God."

"Only when you've been in the deepest valley can a person know what it's like to
stand on the highest peak."
- inspiring words from Richard Nixon, former United States President

About the submitter:
Craig believes in helping others to find their
passions and gifts... through encouraging people to reach out for,
then accomplish their "wildest" dreams. He truly believes people can overcome
obstacles, rise to any occasion, and accomplish
their dreams, even 'Endless Possibilities, Far and Great Horizons' in life with
enough FAITH and PERSISTENCE.

# CONTROL:
It's a "head game" in displaying your skills and abilities.
that of:
* power
* precision
* accuracy
and
self control.*

* talent

* discipline

* determination

* desperation (they have the "killer instinct" to come out on top)

* dedication

* durability: The greatest sportsmen and women are those who've been able to
replicate success year after year, ie consistently.

We hope that the following article (an extract from one of Craig's first
manuscripts on sport psychology 'The Winning Mind' and his "zany" self
development work 'Steps to Success, Prosperity and Happiness'
may be informative and helpful to your e-zine readers, or on your web site. This
piece may be freely reproduced electronically or in print. If
it helps others "out there" on the pathway to success (and most importantly,
happiness), then we're very happy.

                                         *

THE KEY ELEMENTS OF DETERMINATION AND SELF DISCIPLINE
ON THE PATHWAY TO SUCCESS

"If a man has talent and cannot use it, he has failed. If he
has a talent and uses only half of it, he has partly failed.
If he has a talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it,
he has gloriously succeeded and has a satisfaction and a
triumph few men ever know."
- Thomas Wolfe

I think the key words (or characteristics/qualities) on the path to success are
the "five D's":

# DESIRE

# DETERMINATION

# DEDICATION

# DURABILITY
and

# DISCIPLINE (SELF).

Because everything starts out with the "seed of desire" - the reason why I
started out writing - wanting to make a difference through my words. Others are
FOCUS and a SINGLE-MINDEDNESS (in pursuit of one's goals). PERSERVERANCE TOO -
in large "heaps".The words 'determination' and (by association) 'ruthlessness',
suggest a person who wants success and power for it's own sake. This is another
sort of obsession. However, a desire for power, riches and fame may have
virtually nothing to do with it. By the way, I feel that not all successful
people and business executives are ruthless - they are not all "money
grabbing corporate raiders". Most of them are "normal and good family men", who
have perfectly natural reactions in that they hate firing employees. "Soft
gentle souls!"

Determination is often at its greatest, when a person is enslaved by an idea and
wants to see the idea work. That's definitely "rather obsessive little old me"!

There is a further sort of determination: the determination to see things
through, to finish the job. For example, a compulsion to qualify for the PGA
golf tour in America, to finish a building, or in my case to finish writing this
manuscript...and then get it published... which is the hardest part of all.
Especially with the way I write!

I suppose all these characteristics are somewhat abnormal; because so-called
"normal" people are more passive and less focussed than us "obsessive types".
They are regarded as being less "mad" by the majority of the public, who engage
in more ordinary activities and have more "normal" occupations.

This thought leads me on to another question: Is the top-most level of success
the only one worth having, or is it sufficient to merely enjoy sport for it's
own sake (even the professionals)?

Does every player entering Wimbledon really think he or she is going to win the
Championship? Or is it success itself just to play in the Wimbledon tournament?
How realistic is the vision of success to YOU? It all depends on how you define
success for yourself...which is the thought with which I introduced this
chapter.

I believe that a strong SENSE OF DIRECTION or PURPOSE IN LIFE is a very
important ingredient for success. So too is a persistent personality.

To be successful in whatever endeavour one chooses, first of all requires a
great of talent. It might be latent, waiting to be uncovered. Perhaps, you are
not even aware of it. I wonder how many budding Ayrton Senna's and Michael
Schumachers there are around, who just have never had the opportunity (mainly in
the form of money) to race cars? Motor racing is certainly the "ultimate rich
boy's sport".

                                 *
To finally reap the rewards of success, obviously talent has to be there on the
long slow road to success - and at the time of success...but has it always been
there? Chess geniuses, athletes, tennis players, architects, athletes,
scientists, dress designers and advertising creative directors. These "creative
types"! There can be talent deep within; but
there has to be hard work and training before the talent bears fruition - so
that it can succeed against (all) others...and this
often takes a great deal of time to bear fruit.

I believe in life it's firstly a matter of finding your "niche", then unlocking
your unique talents...and finding it is the most difficult part. You may not
even be aware you have any special gifts. That is the "key" to success. As I
mentioned, I found whatever little ones I had through a process of
serendipity...and it's probably my one and only talent! My writing, I mean. Once
uncovered, it's then a question of building on it and maximising it. Maria
Callas, the opera singer with "a voice like an angel" put a great deal of effort
into maximising her talent. Sometimes a phenemenol talent, like a Juan Manuel
Fangio*, Jim Clark or Ayrton Senna soars above all others; but in most cases
it's the effort and total dedication put in to make the most of one's natural
talents, that puts an individual into the realm of a superstar - someone who is
on a different level, a cut above the best of the rest,.'we mere mortals'

* Fangio won the World Driver's Championship five times.

One can sometimes substitute hard work, training, experience
and strategy for flair. Nice word that 'flair'. Could be a girl's name. Some
detectives are like "Mr Plod", while a few sleuths have the natural insight of a
Sherlock Holmes. Most others have to get results through hard detailed work in
uncovering cases. I don't yet know whether I'm a "natural" writer or a
methodical plodder, a "gatherer and passer-onner of useless" information through
a great deal of effort. Perhaps only time will tell!

I might have mentioned before (once, twice or ten times) that this manuscript
has been written for anyone: from the most lowly amateur to the real 'pros' in
the sporting world. So no matter how lowly your abilities, make the most of
them.

A positive attitude to life is all-important. A positive attitude says that your
natural talent can be maximised. It also says that without further effort,
natural talent will be wasted. I do like repeating myself: for
emphasis primarily and as a sign of oncroaching/impending senility too.

Sometimes persistent effort alone won't succeed in getting you
to the top - only sheer talent will do that... together with consistent effort
to keep you at "the top of the tree". Never mind - no matter your field of
endeavour in life,

JUST TRY TO IMPROVE yourself and simply DO YOUR BEST at all times.

Sharing some thoughts on Writing that "Great American Novel"*
(from Creative Writing Course)

* or that of any other country

"Writing is like sex in that it can be very nice when you are
thinking about it, terrific when you are doing it, very
satisfying afterwards...and you write because you have to."
- anon

"Asking a working writer what he thinks about critics is like
asking a lamp post how it feels about dogs."
- Christopher Hampton, British writer and dramatist

Take an objective viewpoint in your story. Writing in the FIRST person
is probably easiest, especially for first time novelists.

# Don't shift viewpoints. Write from one perspective: first,
third person, etc.

# Write as you talk.

# Introduce problems with which the reader can identify or
sympathise. Bring in emotions (such as pity, contempt, fear,
anger and hatred).

# You can even use the technique of flashbacks. A difficult tool,
yet effective, if not overdone.

# Use dramatic symbols, termed 'foreshadowing'. Eg: "When Joe went
into the store, he had no idea he was about to make one of the
biggest blunders of his life." Foreshadowing builds up dramatic
intensity in your story.

Read with care and attention. In her book 'Becoming a Writer',
Dorothea Brande suggests you should read a book twice in quick
suggestion. First for enjoyment, then to discover how the author
tells it. Look at the techniques, successes and failures of the
narrative. Do you think the author succeeded in his/her aims at
the outset?

You learn by practice - only later think of publishing.

Think of a new angle for your story. For example: opposition to
quarry - "greenies" vs businessmen for "progress". Instead of
describing the protesters chained, write about the child injured.

See your story, is if it's taking place before you on a lighted
stage...make the reader see it. Then they'll FEEL it. In summary,
write smarter not harder.
                                     *
I think that words have such power in them (did I need to include those last two
words?). I only write about subjects, about which I'm passionate - for a
PURPOSE:
"My writing mission is through my words to inform, illuminate, entertain,
uplift, delight, as well as hopefully even inspiring people. I aim to do this by
sharing a bit of my knowledge and life experiences - through supporting,
encouraging and empowering others to be the best person they can possibly be."

You too can implement a plan, a purpose for your writings. It may be to inform,
impact, enchant, dazzle, enlighten, or even uplift others spirits through the
immense power of your words. For example, as a contrast between writing
light-hearted words of entertainment, or ones of suspense and maybe sadness.
Otherwise you may use the power of the pen to write incredibly moving words of
laughter and love. "You incredible romantic", Mills and Boon, here we come!

You need to be totally sincere about what you write. Write from
the heart, even at times from the inner depths of your soul. You
will find that it will stir you and touch every fibre of your
being. Be proud of what you write. If you think it is good, say
so. Who cares anyway (if you are a little "vain")! Most creative
people, like artists are. Write with authority - get your facts
right by doing proper and detailed research. Be original, be
patient, perservere and don't build up your hopes too high.
Accept that no publisher has an obligation to publish your book.
Your job is to make her (they usually are in this industry), or
him want to publish your book.

"I write because something inside myself, inner and unconscious
forces me to. That is the first compulsion. The second is one of
ethical and moral duty. I feel responsible to tell stories that
inspire readers to consider more deeply who they are."
(I wholeheartedly agree with those well-put sentiments from another 'anonymouse'
writer).

My writing reveals who I really am (an "airey-fairey/arty-farty type"???)

Use the beauty and grace of language to tell your tale.

Happy writing and enjoy your creative journey of self discovery and self
fulfilment.
