Hi Sergio,
Thank you for the information.  I am able to go on the website, but when I send an email to Massimo, it gets returned to me saying that delivery failed.  I will try again tomorrow.

Hey, my great grandmother was a Masci!! Let me know what you find. They were from Terracina, not Itri, as far as I know but they are close to each other.

I Have a friend here named Everaldo but never know Eraldo.
I thing Eraldo could come from Araldo that was the man in medieval age speaking to the people about the decision of the govern.

Hi everyone! I am back from my 6 week sojourn to the beautiful area of Central Oregon- nothing so exotic as Itri but my family happens to live in Oregon so that is where I spent my time. Got back and tonight I am finally feeling like I am over the jet lag! Whew! Anyway, I wanted to ask you, oh wise ones, if any of you have heard of the name 'Eraldo.'  My father-in-law's middle name was Eraldo and in all my research, I haven't come across it in any of his Italian family lines. Hope this email finds you all doing ok. It is pouring down rain here in Maryland- we have a tornado watch till 11pm. Some thunder and lightening. Take care, Judy

Good evening all- I was re-reading the obit for one of my husband's ancestors, Rose Piro Sileo. In it it mentioned she was a member of the Mutuo Italian Aid Society so I googled it and came up with this site: "http://www2.hsp.org/collections/balch%20manuscript_guide/html/italian.html
Didn't find anything about her but some surnames may be of interest to someone in this group. Some are from areas around Naples and Itri. Judy

I've tried to leave the group via the method the program offers but
it's the strangest thing. There is a box about 5 x 3 inches that
appears at the bottom of my screen when I scroll down to click
on "Leave Group." By the time I get back to the top of the screen and
the message "Do you want to leave group?," the box pops up and covers
the choice "Yes" or whatever it is because I never get to see it.

Please be kind enough to remove me from your list from your end. I
would appreciate it very much.

This is totally bizarre. I wonder if anyone else has the problem?

Hello,

I just found this group and wanted to introduce myself. My ancestors
come from Fondi, Italy. We just got back in June from a wonderful trip
to Fondi and met many of my Italian relatives for the first time. I
noticed one of the surnames you had listed was Maggiacomo. Does anyone
in the group have ancestors with that name. I would like to compare
ancestors. My paternal grandfather was a Massarella and my paternal
grandmother was a Maggiacomo.

Hi Ann,

My Grandmother's maiden name was Maggiacomo. There is actually a street
in Itri called Maggiacomo (see attached image).
I'm still working on the ancenstory tree.

I've been waiting to join a DNA group for some time, thanks for creating it.  This is a good way to get an idea of how closely related different families with the same surname may be, once we have gone back as far as possible with the written records.

Happy New Year to the Group.

I've been searching for some books on Itri and found this store. The
site is in Italian as are all of the books they offer but I thought
some of you might be interested anyway since the books are region and
Itri specific. The first link is the main page and the second one is
the page that a search of the term Itri produced.

Hello there,

Let us introduce ourselves. We are Paul and Louise Shapcott.

We are an Italian speaking, English family who have recently moved
to live in Itri, which is very near to

Gaeta / Formia / Sperlonga / Terracina/ Monte San Biaggio / Fondi /
Lenola / Pastena / Scauri / Minturno etc etc.

We fell in love with the area when on holiday a few years ago, and
have a passion for all (nearly all !!!) things Italian. We decided
to change our lives completely by moving from the UK to live in
Italy.

We too are researching family links in Italy, particularly in the
Atina, Frosinone area (Ciociaria). We still have family there.

Do any other members of this group live in Itri or thereabouts?

We bought a small farmhouse, just outside Itri, which came with 8
acres and about 600 olive trees. We are still renovating the house,
the upstairs is complete now, but there is still some work left to
do downstairs, and plenty of work in the olive groves.

We have a website which shows where we live, and has lots of
information regarding the surrounding area. Perhaps you might like
to take a look. http://trecancelle.shapcott-family.com

If you think we may be able to help at all please feel free to
contact us.

Hoping to hear from you all soon.

Kind regards

Louie and Paul

I am just joining this group. My wife and I visted Itri for St
Joseph's day last year. It was wonderful. For those who have not
been, this is a big celebration with huge barn fires in every piaza,
along with live music and different food. We stayed at the Il Grottone
hotel and restaurant and can recommend it to anyone who has not been
there yet. This was our second visit to Itri. We also traveled to the
surrounding areas including Formia, Gaeta & Sperlonga which is a
beautiful seaside resort area.

Welcome, glad you've found us. I hope to travel to Itri someday if I
ever learn enough Italian. San Guiseppe sounds like a wonderful time

If you are within driving distance of the FHC in RI you will be happy
to know that thanks to Jason Socia of this group, all of the FHL films
for Itri with the exception of the processetti are on indefinite loan
there. And I am working on getting all the processetti for Itri. At
present there are the processetti for 1819 - 1824, 1823 - 1829 and
1845 - 1850 at the RI FHC.

Let the group know who your families are. itir was a small place, so
you will probably find a "cousin" or two here.

We must be related! I am Marie Elena Saccoccio from Cambridge, MA. My

However, he had many cousins in Rhode Island. My father was Dan

Thanks to all for welcoming me to this group. There are two websties
that I believe people may be interested in. The official website for
the "Comune di Itri" is - www.itri.it - this is all in Italian but
interesting anyway. Another cite is - www.visitaitri.it - that
contains what appears to be transcripts from a book written about Itri,
Fra Diavolo and the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Civita which can be
read in italian, english or french. It is written by a former town
official Pino Pecchia and translated by Paola Sepe (another common Itri
name)

We could be. My grandfather was Michele Arcangelo Saccoccio and my
grandmother Arcangela Stamegna which is also a popular name in Itri.
They were both born in Itri, married in 1911 and immigrated to
Cranston (Knightsville) Rhode Island in 1912. They had 10 children
Philip, Romulas aka Remus, Frank, Anthony, Mary, Louis, Adeline,
Pasquale, Salvatore and John. My father was Louis and my uncle John
is the only living survivor of the group. My cousin developed a
family tree with the help of my father's cousin Benedetto Saccoccio
who is now in his 80's but has returned to Itri many times. I would
be happy to share it with anyone.

I met a young man on-line named Rubino Saccoccio who lives in Lucca
which is in Tuscany near Pisa but his parents still live in Itri. I
shared the family tree with him and he recently wrote to me saying
his mother and uncle have recognized some of the names. We are
trying to determine if we are related. My wife and I were their
guests for dinner when we were there. Homemade Sunday dinner at the
Saccoccio's was great.

One last note. You can drive around the Castle but inside the Castle
there are lanes or alleys which are too narrow to be called steets.
One is Vico Saccoccio which means Saccoccio lane or alley.

Hello...

My grandmother (in spirit now) came to America with sisters, at about 16 years of age.  She was of the Ciccone family from Formia.

Do you have any information on:  My grandmother:  Elvira Ciccone Parisi.  (married to Louis Parisi)
Her sister's name (my mother's aunt & my great aunt):  Jennie Ciccone Petrone.  (married to Anthony Petrone)

Thank you,
Renata Pezzella Young

Joe,

Do you have a Domenica Capatosto married to Giochinno Pezza about 1840?

Yes, in the city of Cranston, Rhode Island there is a village called
Knightsville which is about the size of Itri and is where most of the
Itranos that immigrated to Rhode Island in the early 20th century
settled. My grandparents were among them. We visited the cemetary
while in Itri and reading the names on the gravestones was like
reading the names in the telephone directory in Knightsville - they
were the same, Saccoccio, Maggiacomo, Cardi, Mancini, Ruggieri,
Ialongo, Sinapi, Ciccone, Capircio, etc. etc. The church in
Knightsville is St Mary's church and the big feast celebrated each
July 21 is the "Madonna Della Civita." The Madonna is carried on the
shoulders of men who are members of the Madonna Della Civita Society
for the procession through the streets of Knightsville. Many of
these men and their families are more recent immigrants to America
and often return to Itri. In Itri there is an establishment
called "Bar Appia" owned and operated by the Sinapi brothers who
lived in Knightsville for 25 years before returning to Itri. They
speak fluent English and are aa definite contact for those who have
never been to Itri. There is also a "Cafe Itri" in Knightsville
which well known in Rhode Island for its fine food.

Last year more than 75 members of my family from as far as
Pennsylvania returned for the celebration
